Send Data is a South African podcast that aims to be an exploration of modern cross-culture collaboration in a digital world.

For this inaugural show we connected the prolific house producer and DJ, Fynn, who has grown up as an artist in the fertile  Cape Town deep house scene. We asked him to remix a track by an artist on the come-up. Amarafleur is an alternative R&B singer and songwriter, someone who is swimming in the new waters of global alt R&B. The track that was remixed is “Whole” a sultry, somewhat introspective piece of music that deals with self-love and mental wellness.

In this second episode, Richard Rumney connected with Lakei, an emcee, producer and all round talented artist from Cape Town. Richard made an instrumental beat in his Joburg studio under his electronica project alias, Low Violence, and sent it to Lakei to write to. After Lakei sent back lyrics recorded in his own home setup, Richard completed the track and released it as 'Jus Vibes' as a part of a recent Low Violence EP release (https://soundcloud.com/maramza/sets/just-vibes). The two artists chatted and shared their general approach to making music and their feelings about online collaboration.

Send Data EP2 - Lakei & Low Violence

Richard and Reg Rumney, created this podcast pilot last year. The idea was to produce a series of podcasts looking up close at efforts to solve South Africa’s problem of affordable housing and urban sprawl. 

This episode takes a look at how Nomakhosi Makolota took on the task of building rental units in Senaoane, Soweto, with the help of TUHF21 and It begins to tell the story of property investment and housing opportunities that many South Africans might not realise are available.

Building Access To The Future with TUHF21

Lilitha is a singer and songwriter whose influences include the venerable  Miriam Makeba and illustrious Thandiswa Mazwai. As a young Xhosa woman with a wide palette of musical influence and ideas, she sees the ongoing possibilities of mixing the folk music of her heritage with the popular music of her time. 

A beautiful example of this, is the track Liyana, born out of a song that has been passed down to her from her ancestors and realized in a way that speaks to her and her fans right now.

Host of the show, Richard Rumney, sat down with Lilitha to speak about the track and the other music she has made and will hopefully still make.

Ear To The Sound ft Lilitha

The artist Sió, a singer, songwriter, storyteller, and poet, has crafted and found a unique space as a music maker. This space is somewhere where she can be the artist she needs to be, finding a balance between vulnerable, layered, and ethereal with powerful spiritual energy.
This is exemplified on her track Gaslight (Caught Fire), produced by the exceptional Daev Martian. It comes from deep within her heart and recent experiences with intimate relationships with lyrics that speak to themes of anger, hurt and love.

Mx Blouse, a Joburg-based artist, singer, and rapper, came into the limelight in 2018 with a genre-blurring kwaito sound—deeply rhythmic, electronic, and steeped in nostalgia. While kwaito remains central to their artistry, their 2024 EP, Emotional Home, marks a shift, trading club-driven beats for lofi textures and introspective storytelling. It’s a project shaped by spiritual reflection, self-awareness, and a new approach to rhythm and groove.
