It’s finally time for us to unveil our first release of the year !

After many explorations of the UK Funky spectrum, this time we’re upping the tempos and giving the keys of the label to parisian crew Few Tips To Heal !

On the menu are 5 jungle and drum & bass tacks skillfully crafted by Funest, LKG, Jules Elipse, Agôn and Skwig, who released the tasty ‘Kindred EP’ on our label.

LKG - Sky No Limit

Twisting junglisms into irregular shapes since 2017, Manchester’s pride and joy Alex Lowther-Harris brings Thugwidow to Sneaker Social for a ruff yet refreshing ride through the rave. No doubt his skin in the game reaches back further than his first recorded output, but just trying to get a handle on his released catalogue is work enough. In 2019 alone he released no less than six albums and three EPs, laying down immense slabs of material on tapes as much as wax. As well as coursing through the dense undergrowth of the cassette scene, his 12”s have appeared on labels like Western Lore, Warehouse Rave and Astral Black, and he’s collaborated with Dead Man’s Chest and Bruised Skies.

Make no mistake, this is hardcore-rooted music, but it feels closer in spirit to that ill-defined period before scenes became delineated and tribal. All the ingredients are there, but Lowther-Harris teases them, fires them off at funny angles or flips them on their head. ‘Post Modern Assault Ethics’ maintains a sparse, restrained demeanour throughout even as the diva vocal slices ping endlessly through the mix and the bass wobbles away underneath. ‘Invisible Shell Of Energy’ juggles lesser-spotted breaks through a cloud of downcast pads, only to trip over and open the filter up on the loose and funky bassline at the final stretch. ‘The Sacrifice’ turns the break damage up, but keeps the moody vibe front and centre, and ‘The Voices Beneath The Earth’ wraps things up with a heavy-hearted belter that runs the risk of achieving anthemic status. 

For all the snappy programming, crisp edits and artful low end, it’s the pervading sense of emotional depth which makes Thugwidow such a powerful presence in the contemporary jungle scene. Pairing those all-consuming moods with his non-standard structures, you’ve got exactly the kind of renegade we love to carry here at Sneaker.

Arriving on Lobster Theremin’s White Label on comes a fresh-sounding and typically loud release from Leeds vinyl enthusiast Peaky Beats. Never one to be pigeon-holed into a specific style of music, his recent releases have explored 2-step, speed garage and dub - bringing his wicked ear for big UK blends into the spotlight - and earmarking him as one of the UK’s most exciting emerging producers. 
On Paradise Falls EP, Peaky Beats unites the worlds of jungle, drum & bass and 2-step on a high velocity, future-facing project, with a little help from contemporary jungle legend Tim Reaper.
‘Paradise Falls’ is a melodic stepper that ventures close to 150BPM territory. Those skippy UKG elements are all there, but this time with a hefty dose of jungle influence which brings a certain weightlessness to the track. ‘Soul Diesel’ ventures further into the garage sphere; the velocity diminishing slightly as the vitality continues to soar. Introspective breaks for sunny days. 
‘Tangerine Dream’ is a prime old school cut of dubbed-out nostalgia. Sitting somewhere between The Streets, El-B and Coco Bryce, its deep bass-weight inspires  big ‘Any Jungle In, Guy?’ energy, before Tim Reaper’s remix of ‘Paradise Falls’ blows the bloody doors off with a typically emotive and atmospheric cut of jungle fantasia.

As electronic pulses begin, the atmosphere transforms into a rhythmic gateway, beckoning a small coconut on a sonic journey. 
carried away by the infectious energy the coconut rallies his companions and take to the primal boog. 

As the energy transcends, the coconuts set sail across the ocean, leaving the palm-fringed shores behind. The beats became a vessel, navigating them through the expansive sea, mirroring the undulating currents beneath. Deep progressive dubby rhythms morphed into a mesmerising melody, guiding them into the unknown.

The electronic waves acted as a portal, transporting the coconuts into the heart of a psychedelic oceanic realm. The deep blue hues of the music enveloped them, creating an ethereal underwater landscape. The beats resonated with the vibrant corals, wubs of colour and energy to each pulse.

Within this sonic abyss, the new travellers encountered large, awe-inspiring landscapes of sound. The melodies swirled and echoed like majestic sea caverns, while the bass reverberated like the heartbeat of the ocean itself. The beats painted a vivid picture of a world teeming with life, where electronic currents merged seamlessly with the natural ebb and flow of the underwater realm. 

The deep blue dub had taken the coconuts on a transformative expedition, leaving them with the echoes of a mesmerising adventure etched into the rhythms of their minds.

Paul Woolford's jungle- and UK hardcore-inspired Special Request project has reemerged in a major way, with a new Fabric mix dropping next week and a new EP for Houndstooth set to follow on April 7.
