I never got to play with steel guitarists Lloyd Green, Weldon Myrick and John Hughey. But over the years, I worked with several wonderful steel players including, Jay Dee Maness, Wayne Cox and Joe McGuffee who played for Dolly Parton for several years. I owned two ShoBud steel guitars, but being blind since birth, I was not able to see the frets, which made it difficult, check that, impossible to play in perfect tune. However, Joe McGuffee said he could play with his eyes closed, and I believe him. He definitely knows his instrument. I've said this to many people, and I will repeat it to my SoundCloud audience, in my next life, I want to be a great steel guitar player. Country Music is not so nice today, not as soulful without the beautiful sounds of twin fiddles and steel. A whole lot of my music on here features this exotic instrument, and if I had my way, much more steel guitar would have been present. This interview has some wonderful stories, great traditional country music and you will also hear the camaraderie between these very talented legendary musicians.

I originally posted this song performed by Bubba Borden. After he left the group in 1989, I liked it so much, I started doing it myself. I'll always think of Bubba when I hear it or sing it. It was in his tribute that started my music on SoundCloud.

Not long after Bubba Borden left the band in 1989, Patty Rambin started playing a lot more lead guitar. To replace Bubba, We hired our friend Dan Silman to double on steel and guitar. Patty is  the harmony vocalist on this Clint Black song.

In tribute to the late great Don Williams, this was probably the closest he came to recording a rock song. Very soon after Williams's version of Tulsa Time was released, Eric Clapton would record his version. Back in the 80s, I read a quote from Eric Clapton where he stated, and I'm paraphrasing, "When I really need to unwind and relax, I listen to Don Williams music." Indeed, I concur.

This band was covering a lot of Highway 101 music back in the late 80s and early 90s, as their west  coast style of hard driving country with close three part harmony was perfect for our group. Patty was doing double duty with rhythm and lead guitar, as Bubba Borden and Danny Dean had left the band in 1989.

We were a Country/Rock band, but our break tunes always had a jazz flavor. Back in 1988, we were playing four nights a week, plus After Hours Friday and Saturday, which was the reference to The Western Club until four in the morning.

For a while in 1980, I had two extraordinary bass guitar players in my band, Richard McClain and Henry B Smith. Henry B, better known back then as H.B. was our utility man, mostly played everything else. but in this funky 1980 Ronnie Milsap song, he and Richard are both playing some incredible bass. The other musicians are, the late great Steve Wade on drums, lead guitarist Stan Beezley, Joe McGuffee is on steel guitar, and I'm singing and playing keyboards. Before the song starts, I fast forward to 1982 when I met the fabulous Ronnie Milsap at an autograph session in West Monroe, Louisiana. The track is very self-explanatory. If there any blind folks hearing this, they will recognize the sound of a slate and stylus that Ronnie is using to sign his braille autograph on the inside cover of his new album at that time, which was entitled Inside. Suffice it to say, I was totally star struck, and it was a special good memorable time, and I'm glad I had the good sense to record it.
