As a nation, the Irish have always had a profound relationship with the people of Palestine.

“Whether born from our own history of British colonialism and occupation, which has cost thousands of innocent lives or through our Connexxion of struggle for civil and human rights, which came to prominence in the North of Ireland in the late sixties just about the time that 20,000 Palestinians were murdered in the 1967 6 day war in Palestine. Ireland will always stand with Palestine and with other oppressed people around the world!  Whether you’re Palestinian, South African, Jewish , African American, Indian, Vietnamese, Iraqi or Afghani – Irish people will always be on the side of good– fighting against oppression and the removal of civil liberties and rights. But at this moment in time, it’s not about nationality or religion it’s about humanity – as an entire people stand on the precipice of extinction. 
 

As a proud Irish man and a citizen of planet Earth, to be silent (as we all bear witness in real time to the genocide of the Palestinian people) is not an option. It’s estimated that to date 35, 000 people have been slaughtered – 15,000 of them woman and children not including the bodies under the rubble and with more than 600,000 are on the brink of preventable starvation.

Our own Irish ancestors experienced a devastating famine exacerbated by the British occupation – when 1 million people starved to death and 1 million more emigrated. So as the Israeli government uses starvation as a weapon of war, I am not going to forget our past, as those who do so and stand by, are surely doomed to regret their inaction.” David Holmes

The Rolling Calf is a black power trio led by vocalist Elaine Mitchener, with core members saxophonist Jason Yarde and bassist Neil Charles. The trio’s performances combine texts by revolutionary African-disaporic thinkers with collective electroacoustic improvisation to strike a new bridgehead for the black British avant garde.

Second half
The Rolling Calf trio performs a programme titled Myths And Dreams in which they invoke African- diasporic texts to access an otherworldly surrealist realm of cosmic ritualistic ‘shredding’. The programme will draw on texts from poems by: Aimé Césaire, Kamau Braithwaite, Una Marson, Sun Ra, Cecil Taylor, Jay Bernard and 
M NourbeSe Philip.

Pain, suffering and stress can be intolerable - but it doesn't have to be this way.

Mindfulness for Health reveals a series of simple practices that you can incorporate into your daily life to relieve chronic pain and the suffering and stress of illness. Clinical trials show that mindfulness is at least as effective as the most commonly prescribed painkillers such as Tramadol and codeine. It is particularly effective for the biggest causes of pain - back problems, arthritis, migraine and diabetes but works equally well for cancer (and its associated chemotherapy), heart disease, fibromyalgia, celiac disease, lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, IBS, labour pain and even tinnitus. You will be surprised by how quickly your suffering melts away, leaving you able to live life to the full again.

A new season of Hip Deep kicks off with a remarkable journey among the forest people of the Central African Republic. The polyphonic, hocketing vocal style of this region's forest peoples ("pygmies") is one of the most singularly beautiful musical expressions in Africa, one that has entranced outsiders since the time of the pharaohs. Ethnomusicologist Michelle Kisliuk has spent nearly 25 years immersing herself in this music, and wrote a landmark book about the lives and music of the BaAka people in the Central African Republic. Kisliuk believes deeply in the performance experience--learning by doing--and this program will initiate listeners into one of the most enchanting and mysterious musical practices in Africa. The program also deals with the BaAka's problematic encounters with neighboring ethnic groups, Christian missionaries, and modernity in general.
