A talk at the Harmony Collective.  I was asked to speak on the relationship of Spirit and Matter, so I told a couple old favorite stories.

TRANSLATION
1) Gurudeva! O spiritual master! When, with a steady mind in a secluded place, will I sing the name of Sri Krsna? When will the pandemonium of worldly existence no longer echo in my ears and the diseases of the body remain far away? When will that day be mine?
 
2) When I chant “Hare Krsna”, tears of love will flow from my eyes and ecstatic rapture will arise within my body, causing my hair to stand on end and my body to become overwhelmed with divine love.
 
3) Faltering words choked with emotion will issue from my mouth. My body will tremble, constantly perspire, turn pale and discolored, and become stunned. All of this will be like a devastation of ecstatic love and cause me to fall unconscious.
 
4) When will such a genuine ecstatic condition be mine? I will constantly sing the holy name and remain absorbed in profound devotion while maintaining the material body. In this way I will obtain your mercy.

BHAKTIVINODA - Gurudeva Kabe Mora Sei

Śrīla Bhaktivedānta Nārāyaṇa Gosvāmi Vandanā 
nama oṁ visṇu-pādāya rādhikāyai priyātmane 
śrī-śrīmad-bhaktivedānta-nārāyaṇa iti nāmine (1) 
I offer praṇama to oṁ viṣṇupāda Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktivedānta Nārāyaṇa Mahārāja, who is very dear to Śrīmatī Rādhikā. 


Śrī Abhidheyādhideva Praṇāma 
dīvyad vṛndāraṇya kalpa drumādhaḥ 
śrīmad ratnāgāra siṁhāsana sthau 
śrī-śrī-rādhā-śrīla govinda devau 
preṣṭhālībhiḥ sevyamānau smarāmi 
I meditate upon Śrī Śrī Rādhā Govinda deva, who are seated beneath a kalpa-vṛkṣa tree on an effulgent bejeweled siṁhāsana in the supremely beautiful land of Vṛndāvana, where They are always being served by Their beloved sakhīs, headed by Lalitā and Viśakhā.

kanhaiyā phir se ā jāo hamāri bāla to li me 
Kanhaiyā, come again to our circle of boys. 

suná he me ne ye mohana ki tum baṁśī bajate ho 
ki tum baṁśī bajā jāo hamāri bāla to li me 

Mohana, we heard You play the flute. Join our gang and play the flute. 

suna he me ne ye mohana ki tum makkhon curāte ho 
ki tum makkhon curā jāo hamāri bāla to li me 
Mohana, we have heard that You steal butter. Join our gang and steal (our hearts) butter. 

ki suna he me ne ye mohana ki tum gowe carate ho 
tum gowe cara jāo hamāri bāla to li me 
Mohana, we have heard that You go for cow grazing. Show us how You graze the cows. 

suna he me ne ye mohana ki tum girivara utate ho

Mohana, we have heard that You lift the king of mountains. Come to our group and show us how You lift the mountain. 

suna he me ne ye mohana ki tum rāsa racāte ho

Mohana, we have heard that You arrange the rāsa-lilā. Come and show us rāsalilā. 

suna he me ne ye mohana ki tum cir curāte ho

Mohana, we have heard that You steal ladies’ clothes. Come and show us how You steal clothes.

Govinda Utsav- Kanhaiya Phir Se A Jao

curā curā ke mākhan khāyo, bṛaj gopin pe nām dharāyo 
vo hai mākhan cor Murāri, Giridhārī Śyām Banvāri. mero... 
O my Radharaman! Giridhārī! Shyam, Banvāri! You have eaten butter by stealing and made imputation of theft over Gopis. He is butter thief, He is Murari (subdue of demon Mura), Giridhārī, Shyam and Banvāri. 

bṛaj par Iṇḍṛa megha barsāyo, nakh ūpar girirāj ūthāyo 
Govardhan Giridhārī, Giridhārī Śyām Banvārī. mero… 
When Iṇḍṛa rained over Brajmandal, then you lifted Giriraj on your finger nail. O! 
Govardhan Giridhārī, O! Shyam, O! Banvārī. 

vṛaṇdāvan main rās racāyo, kāmdev ko mān ghaṭāyo 
Mohan Rās Bihārī, Giridhārī Śyam Banvārī, mero… 
You performed Ras dance in Vrindavan and defeated Kāmdev’s pride. O! 
Mohan Rās Bihārī, Giridhārī, Śyam, Banvārī 

śakat, pūtnā, agha, baka, kesī, gaja, muśṭik, devan ke dveśī 
kaṁsādi saṁhārī, Giridhārī Śyam Banvārī, mero… 
O Giridhāri, Shyam, Banvārī! You killed Kamsa, Shakatashur, Pūtanā, Aghashur, Bakasur, Keshi demon, Elephant Kubalayapir, wrestler Mustik who were all envious of the demigods. 

bhakta sudāmā cāval lāye, tīn lok ke bhūp banāye 
aise dīn dukhārī, Giridhārī Śyam Banvārī, mero… 
O Giridhārī, Shyam, Banvārī: Devotee Sudama brought rice to you and you made him king of the-three worlds. You are very sympathetic to the poor. 

duryodhan ke bhog na bhāye rūkho sāg vidur ghar khāye 
aise prem pujārī Giridhārī Śyām Banvārī, mero… 
You did not accept delicious food given by Duryodhan, while you accepted simple preparations at the home of Vidur. O Giridhārī, Shyam, Banvārī! You are such a worshipper of love.

Japa Inspirations

JI 16 - Obtaining faith

My Gurudev, Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayan Gosvami Maharaj, said the greatest expression of love and affection in the world is the giving and receiving of hari-katha (narrations of the glory of God).  But he would also tell us that  recording it or listening to recordings will cheat us of the real thing.  We cant make a personal relationship with that living, transcendental sound vibration through a mechanical device.  To imbibe the sacred wisdom and devotional sentiments which a sadhu pours out from the inner dimension of his pure heart by speaking katha, it is necessary to sit at his lotus feet.  

Moreover, we will have to sit there having offered our ears and mind and heart and life to that saintly person.  There must be a bridge of affection between us.  Then we can 'overlap' with him and his inner things will transfer to us when we listen like that, with so much faith and trust.  That is the essence of association.  "O Gurudeva, i am actually mad, insane, bewildered and powerless to sort myself out.  I lay my scrambled mind and self before you.  May your words, your pure conceptions and moods mold me and make me like you.  And O Hari-katha Prabhu, i know You are Sri Hari Himself, descending in the form of sound just to deliver me.  Please, i am opening the sanctum of my heart with these open ears and begging You to please come sit on the altar here; conquer me and control me in every way, Prabhu.  I am Yours."  

This is the secret science of proper and progressive hearing.  Bow down, give honor, and try to somehow serve  the Hari-katha Himself, the speaker of the katha, the listeners of katha, the place of katha, and the organizers who made it possible for katha and us to be together.  Without 'meeting' that sadhu and katha by deep honor and affection and submission we will only catch the material sound and the shadow of the meaning.  

How can you make a reciprocal exchange of love and honor with a computerized sound file?  The recorded sadhu cannot bathe you with his compassionate glance, and the recorded sound wave isn't comprised of the same trans-auditory nectar which flows from his lips.  Spiritual realization and mood come by personal association.  From recordings we can only get some knowledge.  

Since i am not a saint, hearing from me directly or recorded is about the same.   No question of spiritual realization or moods, this is nuts and bolts stuff - knowledge.  And knowledge has its positive utility too - so long as it is backed by eagerness to know, love and please God.  If not, then even so-called spiritual knowledge will just make us proud and derail us from the path to real happiness.  I present this information here online in hope that even one honest aspirant for true love will be somehow a little bit supported.  Out of the hundreds of millions of people atrophying in cyber-passivity, maybe some wandering pilgrim who still has a shred of will to advance themself by the necessary honest interior labor will come here and be served by these recordings.  

With so much verbiage, finally i am kind of just always saying the same things:   Repair integrity.  Allow for dark grace. Pray for real.  Make affectionate association with transcendental persons your top priority. One Love.  Sri Radhe.
