Pets are proud to welcome long-time friend Mathias Kaden whose making his label debut with two of the trippiest, sense-shaking, freakiest jams we think he’s ever conjured.

As teased in his recent Boiler Room show (and most sets he’s played lately), both ‘Polyphonic’ and ‘NoKick’ offer a fresh-yet-heritage-rooted take on techno and have been tailored to cut through on the biggest of festival and carnival rigs. Perfect timing, then. Let’s tuck in:

‘Polyphonic’ sits somewhere between Paperclip People and Basement Jaxx. Its sterling acid house hook lays down the foundations while a dizzying array of FX and sonic chemtrails swoop, bend and flare above the groove like fireworks. A proper sonic rocket display of a track that defies conventional arrangement, make no mistakes: this blows minds.

‘NoKick’ continues this theme with even more derring-do. As the name suggests, there’s no kick drum at play here, just a swinging break with a classic 2 Bad Mice style old school bassline and even more laser-blazing FX trickery that rifles the spectrum with head-turning, twisted dexterity. Complete with crowd cheers and carnivalian whoops and hollers, this is the ultimate DJ tool that winds the crowds up like nobody’s business. 
Better late than never: After years of releasing on some of the biggest and most respected labels in techno, Mathias’s appearance on Pets has been long overdue. But rest assured; these tracks really are a seriously special occasion. Only a fool would sleep on these…

Splashdown: Pets are here to squeeze every drop from your summer with a sweet four-track collection that’s precision primed for any poolside soiree you might indulge in this season. Grab a towel, a little juice and your nearest dearests for a series of slinky, sleazy, sunny-side sounds. Eats Everything gets the shindig in swing with the ‘Chitter Chatter’, a sought-after dub version that’s been a staple of his sets for a while now. Humming with fuzzy weight and a head-turning detuned key riff on the fills, it sets the shuffle for the deeper, left-side tech funk grooves to follow. Walker &amp; Royce paddle back to 1997 with a slick fix-up of Chicago don Gemini’s ‘On This Planet’. Maintaining the alien-landing eeriness, existential narrative and loafing bassline, the Brooklyn duo bring it up to date with a soft-but- stern jack that really pops on the second drop and brings their dubby signature to life. Stefano Ritteri takes us for a deeper dive into the pool with a stunning cosmic composition that’s drenched in emotion. Classic Border Community feels that turn everything into a slo-mo sunset, Stefano’s ability to nice things up has impressed since his label debut in 2013. Finally old Hercules &amp; Love Affair comrades Kim Ann Foxman and Shaun J Wright reunite with the ultimate transition from pool to party; a timeless late night New York house groove builds with a ripplingly crisp synth hook, star gazing textures and sleepy, dreamy harmonies. Soaked with originality, wet with rich grooves; whether your crowd are lounging or lively this summer, this will satiate.

He’s back… After slapping us upside our heads with December’s loose-stringed wide-screened ‘Cross Pendant’, Bonn’s Jonathan Kasper returns to Pets with two more unique full-bodied house grooves. 
In-keeping with the releases that have since come our way on KX and Upon You, once again both ‘Strout’ and ‘Roundhouse’ genuinely sound like nothing else being made right now. Both unashamedly distinctive, both refusing to kowtow to current or past trends. We guarantee you won’t hear anything like these elsewhere. 
‘Strout’ gets the motor running with a fuzzy lo-fi bass groove and spacious rhythmic elements allowing just enough space for a lilting arpeggio to cut through and build the tension. Fresh percussion is softly introduced as the unkempt bass undulates and a steady feedback line warps and wrangles the mind. Nodding introspectively like a Death In Vegas track covered by Tiefschwarz, new dimensions await those who lock in for the duration.   
‘Roundhouse’ continues the full immersion experience and kicks as hard as you’d hope it to; whomping, stamping, strings-a-twanging, kicks-a-banging, it’s a straight-up party track wrapped in psychedelic whooshes that fly out from the centre directly into the leftfield. 
Fun, poky and memorable… Make no mistakes, Kaspar will be ghosting the Pets halls once again very, very soon.
