My father's history of heroism can illuminate the need for a socially supportive foundation of caring and compassion for the children of our Military Personnel and our Veterans.  They are an historically invisible and often transient population of children.  We can help to become that community by educating our educators, teaching resilience and encouraging skills to nurture the ability to thrive, at every public school, college, and university in this nation.  As the Gold Star Daughter of a National Hero, I begin at my father's and my own high school with this campaign awareness project using target research and autoethnographical methodology.  

Project Gold Star - Community Education - Grandstaff, Part 2

I am the Gold Star Daughter of a National Hero, Bruce Alan Grandstaff.  My father was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, posthumously.  Gold Star means parental death to combat.  National Hero means one of less than 3500 recipients of our nation's highest award for heroism and bravery out of the now over 100 million who have served in the history of the United States.  I give voice to the nearly 4 million children of our military, each with the potential for sacrifice for a fallen soldier parent(s), to educate our communities about our Military Blue Star (Active Duty), Silver Star (psychological or physical injury) of a Wounded Warrior, and Gold Star Children who lose a parent to combat.  My father's legacy serves to illuminate the dark history of our American children of our Military Personnel and Veterans who carry the sacrifice, mostly alone.
