"Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan was where I wrote 'Boys of New York', it's about my sliding door moment, getting married & settling down with the one I loved or leaving to carve out a life on my own. Together since teenagers, I needed to find out who I was alone, I didn't know.

So I left.

Learning life's lessons along the way that becoming whole on your own is important and that it's not easy to find that kind of love again even when the next one to come along seems perfect.
I didn't know what the meaning of being safe in someone's arms meant until I left. The next one was unfaithful and the one after that...
Those feelings are bound up in this song too. I am happy to have it out".

"I've also learned how much strength I have and that my faith in something much bigger than me gets me through. When we lost my nephew Buddy and my childhood friend was Nic shot and killed in the short space of 6 weeks, the grief forced me to focus only on what matters, the people you love, to become strong on my own two feet and stay on track.
Boys of New York represent the people who promise you the world but it's not really real. They aren't like the ones you trust, not like your first love.     
I now know I am stronger on my own two feet and I couldn't be happier with my choice of sliding door".

Beat You Down

With her debut E.P. almost in the can TAMMA gives us a little bit on the side, lending a sparkly top line to the American outfit’s song ‘We Know Better’.

Tongue Tied, is a song that is really close to TAMMA's heart.  “I wrote this at a time where I could not make sense of anything, I was feeling trapped in my own head and a bit of a wreck”. 

On a flight from Melbourne to Brisbane to record the EP with Producer Konstantin Kersting (Tones and I, Mallrat, Jungle Giants, Tia Glasgow) the unfinished piece of the puzzle was a song called Tongue Tied. In a flurry of emotions the pressure grew as the plane was preparing to land.

“I was still missing the chorus and had so much to say but couldn't get it out. I closed my eyes, almost giving up, when the chorus ‘I'm a wreck but I’m still alive, I’m just tongue tied’ came to my mind.” 

Completing the song was a significant time for TAMMA as she also admitted it was closing an old chapter in her life and starting a fresh page. 

With everything that's been going on in the world in 2020, TAMMA feels the song is very relevant. Bringing a lighthearted contemporary pop sound to her listeners who are facing times that are incredibly challenging is her goal.

Tongue Tied

TAMMA launched onto the scene in October 2018 with debut smash Beat You Down. The track was added to rotation on commercial radio across the HIT Network and featured as Ash London’s ‘Live and Local buzz track’, plus had spot plays on triple j. 

Beat You Down also featured on Australian TV shows such as Home and Away, was added to over 15 Spotify curated playlists internationally and was on rotation in retail stores, bars and gymnasiums around Australia and New Zealand. 

TAMMA has now teamed up with acclaimed Brisbane producer Konstantin Kersting (Mallrat, Tones and I, Jungle Giants) to record her debut EP ‘We’re Still Here’. She describes the experience of working with Konstantin as one of the best times of her life. 

The EP combines contemporary pop and electronic elements and the timbres of traditional and contemporary soul music. TAMMA uses her voice at the centre of these arrangements, lyrically and thematically writing her way through the lowest times in her life and communicating resilience to her listeners with a strong message that you can always get up again. 

Currently residing in a small coastal town on her family's avocado farm on the beautiful North Island of New Zealand, TAMMA splits her time between writing music, working as a digital business productivity coach and tending to the farm.
