A beat that was supposed to be meant for another edit, turned out to be the most perfect fit when we came across “Poongaatru Puthithaanathu” from the Kamal Hassan and Sridevi starrer Moondram Pirai (1982)

The original song, speaks about how a woman's childlike presence in the protagonist’s life has brought about a new feeling, like a flowery breeze. 

Poongatru is anything but a flowery breeze in this case. This particular edit sounds like it’s straight out of a spy movie in the 80s. Might as well be about a femme fatale who has managed to seduce the spy, keeping him forever under her spell.

The original song - Ninnu Kori Varnam, is a true classic composed by the maestro Illaiyaraaja for the tamil movie Agni Natchathiram (A Scorching Star) 1988, directed by the legendary Mani Ratnam. It’s his play on the carnatic song that goes by the same name. 

The female lead, played by Amala Akkineni, is portrayed as a rebel. A girl who is bold, beautiful, knows what she wants and more importantly,how to get it. This song was chosen as the heroine’s introduction in the movie, which Illaiyaraaja flipped into a disco record.
