Tried something a little different with this episode of Citrus, it's a bit of a slow burn. I've had a track I've been wanting to play by Nice Girl for a while that's much slower than I usually play, I used this as the starting point and gradually build throughout the show through some deep sludgy minimal into some housier dance tracks at the end.

The concept for this instalment of eclectic.’s guest mix series is “Return to Being” with others and with ourselves.

“Self reflection is an important part of the creative process for me. A bulk of the work doesn’t happen on the canvas. The aim of this series was to completely lean into this period of somewhat forced reflection during the pandemic and observe the self. Drawing, observing, and accepting yourself with every curve and crevice can be a very intimate and vulnerable interaction. This series is one way to express that exploration and return to being, free of judgment, and full of play.”

A wildcard episode for the show, in the middle of Eora's strictest lockdown I was producing the show from my bedroom instead of the FBi radio studio. I had a case of the winter blues and was (am) missing partying with my friends dearly. This is a super speedy episode, an ode to kickons lock-ins & ravey house party vibes. Mixed bag of throwback 2000's ukg, breaks, trance & jungle and lots of tracks from my closest friends, missing those crying on the dancefloor moments!

Citrus' very first guest mix from the wonderful @Raquel_c , queen of deep rolling minimal grooves. Raquel can be found in the weird and wonderful underground dance floors all over Sydney. She is a resident of Comfy Grrrl, who’s ethos is to provide a safe space for women to create, collaborate and inspire one and other. The brand is motivated by the 1990’s Riot Grrrl movement, which encouraged women to develop their own place in a male dominated scene. Raquel has played all over Sydney, including various iconic Sydney institutions such as as Club 77, SASH, The Oxford underground and more.

In a flare of textured ambience and atmospheric grooves, Talia Jiminez AKA Tangela is reeling in the 102nd Mantra Collective podcast.  The radio savant that she is, Tangela finds herself sprawled across the airwaves, hosting Citrus on Fbi Radio, and on Nomad radio as co-founder of the sweeter than sweet Doulgas Street.  

In episode 102, Talia starts off on the soft side, saving the relentless loops for last.  While the hihats do the talking, we find ourselves grooving in synchronicity wondering where the all the time went.

"I had the honour of closing out one of the most special events I’ve played to date, celebrating the incredible Command D's EP launch for Clone Dialogue. It was my very first warehouse party I’ve been booked for and felt like a full-circle moment as warehouse parties are where I fell in love with our scene when I moved to Marrickville in 2016. I got to play so many of my favourite tracks I’ve been saving up for years out of Translate's ridiculous rig, literal dream come true! 

I’ve re-recorded my set from the night as I was silly enough not to bring a recorder but some things are best in the moment & hopefully this captures a little of the atmosphere. 

Biiiiig thanks to the whole crew, Charley, Fruit Bowl, & Body Promise for putting so much faith in me 🥺🥲 & @ben-fester & @iv-dripp who I’m so honoured to play alongside! "

Co-founder of Eora music collective Douglas Street, Sydney-based Tangela has been making waves in the city's burgeoning dance music community across the border from us. She recently launched her own radio show, Citrus on FBi radio,  94.5fm, broadcasting Saturday nights from 10pm - 12am. For her contribution to the series Tangela has mixed a bouncy, minimal set that toes the line between light and dark.
