Document One - Hands Up

Anyone who was following our movements last year will have noticed we announced a project with the motivation to help address the gender imbalance in drum and bass: Balance. In collaboration with House of Hi-Fi, we invited female producers of all levels to submit original productions to us with a view to the best submissions being worked on and released as part of an EP. We're stoked to say the first volume of Balance is here!

It has been a long journey to get to this point, and a big learning curve for the label team, but we couldn't be happier to be presenting three very talented womxn - @asha-binx, @djcaitc and @insight_sounds. From naughty wubs to dancefloor melodies to dreamy liquid, we've got three awesome producers bringing three unique vibes. This will be a debut release for both Asha Binx and Insight, but CaitC is a name some of you may already be familiar with - especially if you were at Rampage earlier this year.

In the grand scheme of gender inequality, Balance may only be a small gesture, but House of Hi-Fi and Onyx Recordings hope it provides the females who take part with a platform to grow, develop and showcase their ability to a wider audience. That's why we will be opening the submission window for Balance Vol. 2 very soon. Keep an eye out for the announcement! But until then, get acquainted with the sounds of Asha Binx, CaitC and Insight, because they'll be lighting up the D&B scene in the near future.

Once again proving their industry-leading ability
to scout for exceptional artists at the formative
stages of their careers, prominent Perth label
ProtoCode have welcomed Moscow newcomer
Thir13en to their ranks with the release of the
guttural two-tracker “Jackin’” / “19 By 6”. Listening to the elusive Russian drum and bass producer’s
latest offerings, you’d never expect him to be new to the scene; his crisp mixdowns and bold sound
design make for one of the label’s most exciting drops to date.

From its outset, “Jackin’” lulls the listener into a false sense of security with its warm introductory pads
and plucky, throbbing basslines, its pop-tinged vocal samples implying that the ensuing crescendo will
take the form of a euphoric liquid roller. Instead, the track breaks out in jerking drops punctuated by
gravelly basslines, flitting synth stabs and careening mechanical buzzes, offering a thrilling contrast from
its breezy introductory passages.

Next, the intricate stepper “19 By 6” greets the listener with muted arpeggios and suspenseful synthetic
groans, soon working its way up to an intoxicating climax. Foregrounding the clattering, percussive
basslines and furnishing the track with plinking harmonies and exuberant drumrolls, Thir13en is really
able to flex his expert craftsmanship, packing every second of the song with meticulous synth work and
detailed drum programming to ensure that the track remains unpredictable up until its final moments.
While the name will undoubtedly be new to many, these two tracks should do more than enough to
cement Thir13en’s reputation as one of the drum and bass scene’s brightest new talents. 

Meanwhile, ProtoCode continue to prove themselves as a truly international outfit, breaking new talent from across
the globe all while operating out of Australia’s West Coast. Having recently celebrated their second
anniversary, who’s telling what the third year for this increasingly prolific label will hold…

Thir13en - Jackin'

Toronto Is Broken returns for single #4 from his forthcoming third album "Clare", and "Gunfingers" has to most definitely be his heaviest track to date. An equal blend of Nu-Metal/Djent riffs and festival drum & bass, this track is most definitely an anthem to come, as stated by MC Sebotage on his debut outing.

Low-tuned halftime riffs, heavy breakdowns and bassline switch ups all glued together by Sebotage's vocals, the gunfinger-weilding world of drum & bass collides with the circle pits.

YANA018 drops on 27th November 2020 on all major online stores and streaming platforms.

Jay Faleye otherwise known as Tantrum Desire, is an electronic producer/DJ from London, UK. His love and passion for Drum & Bass music escalated since the early 2000s and has remained strong ever since.

In late 2006, Tantrum Desire released tracks such as “Dreamscape” on Heavyweight Records. His music attracted many peers which followed onto DJ’ing at residential clubs in London, also receiving air time support from BBC Radio 1 & 1xtra. By late 2007, he was then picked up by Drumsound & Basslinesmith and signed to their very own Technique Recordings. 

Since then, the Londoner has had many releases leading up to his successful worldwide anthem "Reach" in 2011. An explosive single hitting over a million views on YouTube, holding the Number #1 spot on Beatport for over a month and being one of the most rotated singles in the Drum & Bass scene. This received great support from Radio presenters and DJs such as Zane Lowe, Fearne Cotton, Fabio & Grooverider, Annie Mac, Pendulum, Andy C, Benga & Skream, Sub Focus plus more. 

Dividing his studio time, Tantrum Desire has been busy with his live shows throughout the years, touring in many cities across the UK, Europe, USA and Australia. 
In addition to this he has affiliated with labels such as Universal Island Records, Ministry of Sound, 3beat, with also building a history in high demand remixes for likes of The Wanted, Laidback Luke, Rusko, Matrix & Futurebound, Wideboys, Utah Saints, the list goes on. 

In early 2015, Tantrum Desire released his single "Oblivion" featuring vocals from Solah, selected as one of UKF’s Top tracks of the year, taken from his debut album “Diversified” which was then released in the summer on 2015. The LP went in the Top 10 release charts on Beatport and was nominated Best Album at the Bass Music Awards sponsored by Sony. He supported the album with international tours, performing at clubs and festivals such as Ministry Of Sound, Avalon in Hollywood and Shambhala Festival in Canada. 

The future is bright for the fact that Tantrum Desire has become one of the most exciting production outfits to date, with the fire to innovate and take things to the next level.
