My friends from When Disco Goes Wrong compiled a release with Swedish producers who have been around for a long time. This resulted in the project "Swedish Smörgåsbord Volume 1" and it is my honor to present a premiere for one of the tracks on my Soundcloud channel.

The son of Swedish psyche rockers Mecki Mark Men frontman, Daniel savo is equal parts uncanny record collector and one of electronic music's most talented synth ascetics. Daniel's music is made on a formula of something out of nothing, man's triumph over machine. His track No More Dancing is a trippy exploration in a dub dimension. A perfect track for slow afterhour sets when landing after a night of raving.

Premiere // Daniel Savio - No More Damn Dancing (Original Mix) [When Disco Goes Wrong] 2021

Jens Patric Svensson (@enorarec) aka Envelope Follower has a DJ career spanning 35 years. In 1990 he got involved in the house and techno scene in Sweden and in his own words - 'I was bitten by it, and it never let me go'. Playing countless times with Magnus Asberg, Robert Leiner (The Source), Max Rich (Shapeshifters), Samuel L Session and other key players in the Swedish house and techno scene at that time. Forward 30 years, Jens now runs his own label Enora, collects synths and releases on different labels.

Hypnotech is the kind of track that creates a psychedelic vortex where the dance floor will dissolve under your feet. Waves of sound will flow through your body and eventually you will become one with them. Minutes will feel like hours and with every breath you end up further away from reality. It is the time of the night that the music becomes hypnotic.  

 I am very proud to premier this track that will be released on November 19th by When Disco Goes Wrong. This release is accompanied by Discotech, another epic track by Envelope Follower, with remixes by label honchos Mindbender and Högt I Tak and the Italian lord of Dark Disco CSK.

Premiere // Envelope Follower - Hypnotech (Original Mix) [When Disco Goes Wrong] 2021

Last weekend I was invited to play at We Fly Wild, a crew of electronic music lovers that organize pop-up events and a festival on the west coast of Sweden. I am glad that I finally managed to record my set and put it out here for the rest of the world to listen. It has been a while to say the least. Most of my focus has been on local events in the last two years. I miss you crazy people that I met on different events around the globe. Here is a sign of life from the tiny Swedish island. Enjoy the ride!!

TantRut @ We Fly Wild - 2022

The elusive producer Högt i Tak who scours the darkest corners of the internet for the most obscure videos to sample. And his latest target? None other than Tolley & Blavatsky, the acid house duo who accidentally became the stars of his latest creation.

It all started innocently enough. Högt I Tak, stumbled upon a video of the duo in the studio. Tolley was shouting "Av It, fuckin av it" over and over again, and our beloved label boss could not resist the urge to sample it. Little did he know, it was about to become the next big internet thing.

He took that wonky sample and turned it into an acid house banger that will have you shouting "Av It" all night long. And with remixes from co-label boss @marten-attling and Jezebell, the sample in this EP is sure to stick around forever. 

Get ready to Av It with @janne-berglund & @jtolley, my pleasure to premiere this remix by Jezebell.  Available in stores on When Disco Goes Wrong on the 24th of March.

In Scandinavia people need an excuse to go out on a weekday. There is always some bingo night on a Monday, a pubquiz on Tuesdays and they even call Wednesday 'Little Saturday' just to sneak into a bar without having a bad conscience. In that regard I wonder what has happened with Thursday? That has always been the most fun day of the week for me. Thursday, the forgotten day of the week. Like the middle child in a family that didn't get all the attention like the older one, but didn't get spoiled like the youngest either. In that regard I should have been born on a Thursday instead of Sunday. Anyways.. this mix was recorded live on the island where more sheep rave than people. On International Sloth Day in fact, so expect a downtempo decelerating mix. Lean back, relax and enjoy the beats of Little Sunday.

TantRut till BSVSMG

A mix for the XXII podcast series got deleted today cause they discontinued their work. I had put a lot of energy and love in creating this mix. So I uploaded it on my own Soundcloud and share it with you. No new material.. but something that shouldn't just be destroyed.

Sommarsång

Very happy to share the recording of my first performance in Copenhagen at Hausgemacht, a lovely combination of dining and dancing in a former green packing warehouse. It was a wonderful night with a great lineup, big honor to play together with @rosa-victoria-vesterg-rd-madsen @mortox and @justemmaoffical . Here is the recording of my set at the Dive Bar somewhere on Saturday night at Burning Bär 2018. TantRut @ Burning Bär 2018 // Dive Bar //  Saturday Night

AfrikaBurn was the best thing I have ever experienced. I spent 11 days in the desert. First helping to construct the Ubuhlanti stage and camp, later to play 7 gigs on different stages and art cars spread out over the playa. Thursday was a special day where my crew buddies and I played on the stage that we had built ourselves. I took over from Joep Mencke just after sunset and later on Mahfoud, Parallels, Sam Shure and Andhim finished the night. 

My intention before AfrikaBurn was to record my set at the Ubuhlanti stage, that a lot of people know as "You Are The Only One", where I played on Thursday right after sunset. But as many of these things there was no recorder available. So I re-recorded a part of the set. It contains the high amount of energy that I carried with me throughout the burn.

I feel very fortunate that I could travel to Afrika to be a part of this. This is not the case for everybody and there are many great artists that we will never hear about, simply because they don't have the chances that I have. This is one of the reasons why Bridges for Music was founded. This NGO develops music and arts projects to empower underprivileged communities, bridge socio-economic gaps and support underprivileged artists and social entrepreneurs. Their projects include the construction of music and multimedia schools, bursaries and awareness event in South Africa.

Because I became deeply inspired by the fantastic work done by the people at Bridges for Music (@bridgesformusic ) I decided that I will donate all of my DJ fees in 2018 to them. You Are The Only One - AfrikaBurn 2018 - Ubuhlanti Stage

It took a while before I received this recording but finally it is here. My set from the camp that I so proudly joined: Bubbles and Bass. I played there on Wednesday morning,  after I had spent one of the most fun nights of my life with my playa family. @nikisadeki had played a beautiful sunrise set and I was flying with so many old and new friends that were there to dance with me. I want to thank @bubbles-and-bass for embracing me and having me in their camp. Every sunrise party that we threw, every bottle of champagne we opened, every time somebody screamed "Bubbles" on the playa there was a huge smile on my face. And that smile is still there when I think about all the moments I experienced during that week. There was love and laughter everywhere. But time for contemplation, insights and lessons too. It was one of the most intense experiences I have had and it probably took until now to really process it. So what a timing that I find this recording in my inbox a few days ago. Thank you so much @m-tort for sending me this. You are fucking legend!! Enjoy this mix for now, hopefully I can meet some of you listeners soon and tell the whole story about this set cause it was a really funny ride. Dusty hugs and love you all!!

TantRut @ Burning Man 2018 - Bubbles and Bass

Here is the set I played at my New York debut at Amaya Social Club. I was warming up for @tony-mukke and @katesteinnyc, starting with some groovy tunes and slowly moving into more danceable melodic, afro and deeper vibes. I was happily surprised to see so many people dancing despite the early hour on the Friday night. It was a night to remember and I completely fell in love with the city that weekend. Thanks so much to these two amazing DJs and to JB for having me play in your club and the tasty mezcal!! <3 <3 <3

TantRut @ Amaya Social Club - New York

The people from The Gardens of Babylon became like a family for me in 2018. I remember attending their Wild as the Moon party in January. Voodoofox and Chris & Mira were playing in the big room at the Marktkantine. I remember thinking "WOW, it would be such an honour if I could ever play here too." And then I got an invitation to play at The Monastery, their 3 day festival in July. It was perhaps the best gig I had that summer. I connected so well with all the people there and I was incredibly happy when I got invited to play in De Marktkantine on New Year's Eve. I opened the main floor. It was quite scary in the beginning with a completely empty room. But luckily lots of people dropped in quickly and after one hour the room was almost full. It became a very special night that I will always remember. Thank you Gardens of Babylon family for having me. Cannot wait to be reunited in Istanbul in February and later this year at The Monastery. LoveLoveLove and enjoy my set!

TantRut @ The Gardens of Babylon NYE 2019 - Amsterdam

Here is the set I played at Zum Brennenden Bären, a regional burn organised by the Berlin Burners at Schloss Beesenstedt. It was my third time playing at the castle and a big honour to be selected out of a long list of DJs. It was also my first burn without a single drink.. which was the best decision ever. I managed to connect so much more with other people, had tons of energy the whole weekend, smiled and laughed endlessly with my dear friends, in particular my spirit animal Paris. 

Big up to Elias Doré who played before me and Audiophil who played after me. Big thanks to the organization and all the volunteers, workshop organizers and everybody that showed up and danced in those early hours. Love you all!! <3

TantRut @ Zum Brennenden Bären / UFO / Burn Night

AfrikaBurn.. and playing Friday Night on The Spirit Train. What a amazing and honourable experience this was!! The Spirit Train took a year off in 2018 so I only heard stories about it. From the stories I understood that it was an incredible art project and mindblowing stage with an enormous energy that can be felt all over the Tankwa desert. I never even thought that I would have the chance to play on it.. 

That was until early 2019 when @michel-piccaya approached me and asked if I wanted to contribute with my music. I was surprised and honoured and put a lot of time and concentration in preparation of my gig. I played my first gig on the train on Monday night and was overwhelmed by the crowd. I was told though that this was just a warm up and Friday night would be way bigger. 

Well they were right. 

All the lights, lasers, flamethrowers were up and running, my dear friends Vincent Freebird Lauenstein and Diana Frankovic did video mapping on the train and the playa was completely filled with people. I had never played for so many thousands of people and for such an energetic crowd. It was so much fun, as was the rest of AfrikaBurn. Building Ubuhlanti stage and camp and playing at lots of other amazing camps. Connecting with so many people, playing B2B with @powlina, @joep-mencke, @vander_music and @deep_schismic ... but this gig on Friday was my personal highlight and that is why I share it with you dear friends. I feel so thankful for all the support and the chance to play on these amazing places.

TantRut @ The Spirit Train - AfrikaBurn 2019 - Friday Night

Like all other days, the artist went for his early morning walk with his faithful dog in a remote area of the scenic Swedish island of Brännö.  It was the morning after a short Scandinavian ‘Midsommar’ night and last evening he spent a long time to observe the rising full moon in the company of his trusted dog.  And that night he had a strange but pleasant dream about 3 witches converging on this island for their monthly coven.  Surprisingly the witches were wearing long white dresses and their energy was not the least bit dark.  The first witch was still in her teens and had very long brown hair.  The second, red-haired witch was in her prime (which is somewhere near 120 years of age), while the third witch was old and grey and she’s already roaming around since the dark days of the Middle Ages.
The three women flew in from 3 different directions and performed a whole series of mystic ceremonies and dances, while not speaking a single word to each other (witches are not talkative by nature).  At one point, they slipped out of their white dresses and started to dance under the stars.  This would go on for many hours until they reached a natural state of trance (without using any substances).  The dancing gradually became more and more energetic and especially the youngest witch got really wild at times, while the oldest witch had a more energy-preserving style, but yet she managed to keep on dancing all night long without interruption.  At daybreak, they stopped dancing and performed some mystic closing ceremonies, before flying away in the direction from where they came.
This coven took place at a distinctly beautiful and impressive spot on Brännö which the artist and his dog were nearing at that very moment during their early morning walk.  At first sight the spot looked the same like on any other day, although there was an unusually big concentration of sheep (who roam freely around the island).  Suddenly the ‘Epagneul Breton’ dog stopped in his tracks and sniffed in the air… then he ran straight to the scenic spot.  Normally he’s very obedient but this time he ignored the restraining calls of his owner and kept on running towards the sheep.  Strangely, the animals didn’t get frightened and soon the dog found himself in the middle of the flock.  When the artist entered the witch’s zone, he felt an unusual calm descending over him, while he noticed that all the sheep looked very peaceful and even slightly hypnotized.  At one moment, something magic happened and he suddenly felt how he became one with the sun and the moon and the stars and planet Earth… and even with the sheep who surrounded him.  It must have lasted only a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity.
At that moment he saw his dog sniffing at an object which was lying on the ground.  The artist picked it up and he saw that it was a thin braid of long hair, and when touching it, he felt an indescribable softness.  At closer inspection, it appeared to consist of three kinds of hair… some hairs were very long and brown, while others had a ginger color and there were also a few grey hairs in between.
The artist decided to take the braid home, but when he neared his house he felt it didn’t feel right to take it inside.  So he hung it on a tree in the garden and saw it sweep gently in the wind.  After just a few minutes, he saw a dunnock land on the same branch and after observing the thing briefly, she resolutely picked it up with her beak and flew straight to a small nearby bush where she was making a tidily crafted nest.  This was pretty amazing given the fact that dunnocks are quite rare on this windy island.
The next morning, the artist checked out the nest and found 3 beautiful blue eggs…

The first ideas for this track were created in the winter of 2018 but I never managed to finish it. The fox is a spirit animal that showed up during a psychedelic breathing workshop by @eva-kaczor with music by @joep-mencke at The Monastery festival (The Gardens of Babylon). That workshop opened some doors and removed some blockages which led me to a wonderful encounter on the last day of the festival. Returning to Sweden after The Monastery I felt an enormous creative drive and inspiration and finished this track in two days. Very proud to share with you my first track: The Encounter.

Presenting the fifth variation of The Space Between Guest Mix podcast series with @tantrut. My goal behind this series is to showcase artists and good friends I've been fortunate to connect with throughout my music journey, those who create and share from the deepest part of their soul and whose musical storytelling abilities bring us deep into the space of feeling.

I met Ruud at @thegardensofbabylon and had the pleasure of connecting with him and being up close and personal inside The Odd Ones Out Stage - a teepee style stage that had the doors zipped shut for his set creating one of the best environments I've ever witnessed.

We've stayed in close contact, reconnecting in person later that year at @projectheart in Tulum, Mexico. I'm honored not only to host this podcast, but to call Ruud a great friend and one of the most genuinely kind human beings with whom I've ever had the pleasure of connecting. Enjoy the journey. <3

TantRut moved to the tiny Swedish island Brännö after seven wild years in Berlin. There he got inspired on legendary full moon beach raves to pick up DJing. His mixes contain tracks with elements of deep tribal dance music, folkloric sounds and rhythms in a modern electronic house or techno version. He sparkles with energy and ideas to co-create events and is a regular DJ at burning man related festivals around the globe. After AfrikaBurn festival he decided to donate all DJ Revenues in 2018 to the Bridges for Music charity that supports less fortunate artists from townships in Cape Town.

Here is the recording of the set that I played at @thegardensofbabylon at ADE. I had the honour to open the floor downstairs where immediately some of my favourite Gardens of Babylon family members joined the dance and stayed until the end of my set. So grateful to have been a part of this event. There were some technical failures right at the start with a broken filter knob on the mixer but once I changed CDJs I found my flow and before I knew @nourpalestina showed up to take over. I danced a lot to her set and later my favourite Max Morel and closed with Geju. The vibes was so intimate and I had one of the best dances of my life. Thank you The Gardens of Babylon and ADE for having me!! <3

These are strange times. After all festivals and bookings for the summer were cancelled and the whole world started doing live stream parties I was invited to a Facebook group called Lockdown radio. Every Saturday evening they broadcast sets done by 3 to 4 artists. No video. Just music. I liked that idea and felt a strong connection with the people in the group. So it was a big honour to contribute with a set of my own on Saturday the 16th of May in the strange year of 2020. This one is for Trudi, Graham and Mark and for Janne who has been a big inspiration over the years. This photo is a from my island with my best buddy. I feel very blessed to live in Sweden in such a peaceful place during these times. I feel even more connected to this island and the beautiful people that live here. Hopefully I can invite some of my new Lockdown friends over here soon. For now we travel through music. Enjoy!

This is the recording of a set I played last Thursday evening on a tiny celebration on top of the boat of my dear friend Carl. Drömmarnas Kaj translates to "The Dreamers' Quay. And well a dream it was. It doesn't really get dark these days in Sweden and the sky was on fire with a super calm river in front of us. I had a great flow from the beginning to the end. It was a night to remember!! And I am happy I recorded my set for you all to listen.

It is with great joy to share the recording of a set I played last Saturday at the Sjöbergen nature republic. An oasis in the middle of Gothenburg where free spirits gather a few times per year to dance. It is such a special place and I felt like I was at a mini festival during a full moon and lunar eclipse. TantRut @ Force of July - Sjöbergen (04-07-2020)

The fourth installment on When Disco Goes Wrong comes at us with a clear message: It aint what you got, it's what you do with what you have. Do it well!

And in this case WDGW:s own head honcho @marten-attling has put together some extraordinary dance floor magic with the help of acclaimed producer @magnus-asberg-c-soul (Romana Records, Plastic City, Viva Recordings plus may more).

'Do it well' comes in five equally tasty and chunky portions: Mindbenders 'New York Mix' is a pumping fat bass laden stomper straight from a dirty abandoned meat packing district warehouse. 

The Magnus Asberg Remix jumps on a percussion groove train with a perfect double acid line driving it all the way down to dirty house central. Broken synth sounds on overdrive and expertly produced little bleeps and glitches throughout the track completes the journey. 

The 'Acid Mix' goes even deeper into the early morning floor territory, with a modulated siren like synth swirling around as the steady four to the floor groove keeps you in check. The 303 acid line sits perfect on top as dubby effects play out expanding into space. 

The next version brings arpeggiated fat 80s synth sound into a driving epic full on Italo Mix. With a boss bass line, disco claps and hammering snares, it is guaranteed to do some serious damage on a floor.

Last but not least, rounding off the EP is another original track. 'I Decided To Dance' is a dirty acid hippie affair with a soft spoken word theme and a deep infinite bass line that acts as the foundation for the track. An essential groover.

PREMIERE: Mindbender - Do It Well (Acid Mix) [When Disco Goes Wrong]

Swedish label When Disco Goes Wrong reaches its fifth release. Curated by local heroes Mindbender and Högt I Tak (SXDNS179), the Brännö-based imprint invited Ruud Kalis aka TantRut for the occasion. Ruud moved from The Netherlands to Berlin about 15 years ago. At that time, he played flamenco guitar and hated his friends when they forced him to join them in their adventures at the local techno clubs. He met a Swedish girl, that later dumped him in Brännö. There he became friends with some local ravers, and he started to understand the true power of electronic music. Long story short: After becoming a quite successful DJ, playing not only in Sweden but also abroad, he finally started producing. For his debut release, the solid original received fancy remixes by Csk (SXDNS088) and the label honchos themselves.

Högt I Tak’s remix, the track we chose to premiere, brings the Swedish wizard in great shape when it comes to providing acid-as-hell interpretations of the works of his best friends. The title of his version for “Closed Centre” – Högt I Tak Acid Is Life Remix – will explain itself when you press play. A tip: The louder you can listen to it, the better.

PREMIERE – TantRut – Closed Centre (When Disco Goes Wrong)

For the fifth release on When Disco Goes Wrong we have our brother from a different mother. Ruud Kalis aka TantRut. A great friend, neighbour, dj and now also a producer.

Ruud moved from The Netherlands to Berlin about 15 years ago to become a teetotaller. At that time he played flamenco guitar and hated his friends when they forced him to join Berlins techno clubs.
He met with a Swedish girl, that later dumped him on the island of Brännö in Sweden. There he became friends with some local ravers and he started to understand the power of electronic music.
Brännö is a small island in the archipelago of Gothenburg, famous for its sheep orgies, full moon parties and let's not forget the fabulous Technosoup events.
For Ruud it all started one midsummer night when he did his first dj set at a garden party on Brännö. And the rest is...cough..history! Ruud has been playing Burning Man, AfrikaBurn, The Gardens Of Babylon, ADE and some other major festivals in Europe.
We're really proud to have him on board for his first release 'Closed Centre'. Remixed by the Italian lord of Dark Disco - CSK, as well as the labelhonchos Mårten 'Mindbender' and Janne 'Högt I Tak'
