Aho Great Spirit

Around midnight I sat alone with candle light in the Santo Daime temple and received this song.   We had passed our first year of grief, by the grace of Spirit we had survived it and following a mystical guidance, we were realising a dream of building a sanctuary, a home to heal,  deep in the womb of a magical mountain.  This prayer is a song of gratitude to the sacred land which held me and my family, to the path of the medicine, the beauty way which grounds, strengthens and gifts me with the wisdom to keep walking forward with an open heart.  One night a few years ago, together with a friend, "Marco like Polo", we spontaneously decided to record it and most recently I have been lovingly encouraged to share it.  I hope this song brings peace to your heart, strength to your spirit and reminds you in testing times that you are stronger than you think you are and with the loving presence, connection and intimacy with Nature, not separate from ourselves we have the capacity to heal the deepest of wounds, and make peace with ineffable pain in radical trust with the divine wisdom of the Great Mystery.

I heard the main melody in my mind and sat down to play it on the guitar, I knew it was for an Icaro but I didn't know which until I heard Don Evangelino Muraray singing it, I think originally it's Don Jose Campos who received it).

The Mamankunas are the spirits of the plants and this song is an invocation to various of them, the original Icaro sings to many more of them but I focused on 4 for this rendition.

We recorded it during a meditation and sound healing retreat at Black Jack's Mill 9th October 2015

I am tanya Mukani, mother of 3 beautiful children, living quietly in Nature, nestled in the womb of a magical mountain. 

I am deeply grateful & blessed to be walking the path of the forest, healing, growing & learning from Nature.  I've been baptised in the Huni Kuin tradition, receiving the name Mukani by my godfather Pajé Sia Hui Bai, the son of the late Agostino Ika Muru & in the ancestral lands of Jordão under his guidance I entered into Samakey, to strengthen my studies with the sacred plants, the sacred chants & songs.  

I've been working in alliance with the Huni Kuin spiritual leaders for many years, an alliance guided by the sacred master plants, the Union of the boa & leopard.  Our community is growing beautifully.  You are welcome to follow our journey on instagram eskawata.kayawai.africa.  I give thanks to the Huni Kuin spiritual leaders, teachers,  txanas from the Brazilian Amazon who have brought the ancestral teachings of the forest to Africa with immense joy, love, humility, reverence & for their encouragement to share these prayers.  

It has taken me a long time to gather the courage to share songs other than in ceremony.  For many reasons there has been resistance.  I am not a trained musician .. I am learning everything from the sacred medicines, from Nature.  

The songs I am sharing are versions of Huni Kui prayers, received from Nature over the past 4 years while navigating through a strong process of grief.  

The songs are captured in the moment, on my iPhone, late at night whilst my son sleeps & I sit with Grandfather fire.  They are raw, innocent & with possible mispronunciations (desculpe familia Huni Kui)

I hope these prayers bring as much healing to your heart as they have to mine. 

And to my eternal love David Wolf, it’s because of you that I sing .. there are no words for the love we share.  It simply continues to grow & expand .. the beanstalk between heaven & earth.  I love you forever.
