Simon “Woolfy” James is the first guest on SOULMEEX PRO and we'll never be able to thank him enough for it because he's a terrific musician, DJ, and live performer with an 18+ year career.

Living in Ojai, California, but originally from the UK he’s released multiple albums and EPs on labels like DFA Records, Permanent Vacation, Future Classic, or his own Ritual Release Recordings, both solo and with his music partner D-Hastie under the moniker Projections.

His tracks have been remixed by widely acclaimed artists such as Benjamin Fröhlich, Markus Worgull, Eagles & Butterflies, Jacques Renault, Musumeci, El_Txef_A, and Francis Inferno Orchestra among others.

Last, but not least, he’s published DJ sets for the likes of Vice Magazine, Ramson Note, and Dream Chimney.

His debut on SOULMEEX PRO is a luminous manifesto of Balearic, disco and deep music to celebrate that summer is already here in the northern hemisphere.

Woolfy - SOULMEEX PRO 001

On Christmas Day we announced that SOULMEEX PRO would become a monthly series in 2024, so we didn't want to waste a single minute and today, we're excited to welcome a key figure in the electronic scene: Kasper Bjørke.
 
The Danish, Copenhagen based artist started making music together with Tomas Barfod (WhoMadeWho), releasing music under the name Filur and mainly active between 1999 and 2006.
 
Kasper adventures as a solo artist began in 2007 with the release of his first album "In Gumbo" on the New York based label Plant Music. Since then, Live At Robert Johnson, Mule Musiq, Permanent Vacation, Compost Music, Correspondant, Eskimo and hfn Music have all released his work - and Nicolas Jaar, Roman Flügel, Tensnake or Prins Thomas are on the roster of artists who's been charge of remixing Kasper's music.
 
His highly collaborative, ambient and neo-classical project "Kasper Bjørke Quartet" had its debut album release in 2018 on Kompakt Records with "The Fifty Eleven Project" and the sophomore "Mother" saw the light in 2022 - "a six composition LP that hints at earth’s resilience, and the promise of another chapter".
 
If you follow Kasper regularly on social media you will certainly know about his concerns and commitment to raising awareness about climate change. That commitment has since 2018 led him to play mainly European DJ gigs reachable by train, downscaling his touring activities to a minimum with the intention to lower his carbon output substantially.
 
In 2023 our fourth guest on SOULMEEX PRO has been focusing on establishing his own new ambient platform, Sensitive Records, releasing two EPs: "Junctures" with Cooper Saver and "Night Soul EP" together with El Agua Es Profunda - as well as recording a brand new album that will be released in 2024.

Kasper also found time to do the score for the latest Nike Lebron XXI film. Making music for advertisement might be one of his less known facets.

Rhode & Brown is the DJ and producer duo based in Munich, consisting of Friedrich Trede and Stephan Michael Braun. They each discovered a love for house music at a young age before joining forces in 2010. Since then, their collaborative efforts have established them as reputable figures in the electronic music scene.

Their releases can be found on well-known labels such as Toy Tonics, Permanent Vacation, Public Possession, Shall Not Fade, and Let’s Play House.

They're also the founders of Slam City Jams, a record company known for releasing high-quality music that incorporates various influences within the electronic spectrum.

In addition to their production work, they host a monthly show on Radio 80000, strengthening their presence in the global electronic music community.

Having shared their vibes worldwide, their DJ sets reflect a love for various music genres, transcending the boundaries of house and techno.

The seventh installment of our PRO series comes from Berlin's lively electronic music scene, in which our new guest shines as a brilliant DJ and hit-producer.

Originally from Würzburg, Germany, Johannes Albert's musical journey from house and disco to techno, acid, and beyond began in his youth. His likable nature and crowd-reading skills, helped him transition from hometown clubs and private parties to a staple in the German electronic music scene.

Touring globally nowdays, his DJ sets still reflect an open-minded approach, fusing modern disco and house with acid, dropping classics, and embracing other genres.

Johannes wears multiple hats as a DJ, producer, and the force behind Frank Music and Fine. Frank Music is mainly the platform for his own productions, including several albums in his catalogue, both solo and together with Iron Curtis. I:Cube, Biesmans, Fred P, and others have also contributed. Fine is rooted to ignite the dancefloor with house music in collaboration with his partner in crime Tilman.

Worth to mention that his work can also be found on other well-known imprints such as Permanent Vacation, Live at Robert Johnson, Uncanny Valley, Future Disco or Renate Schallplatten. 

Johannes Albert is without question a key essential figure in the electronic music forefront.

Philipp Lauer is a veteran German DJ and producer who’s been carving his path through the scene for over two decades. Known for his diverse musical portfolio, he’s ventured into many collaborative projects and aliases over the years. Each of them offering a unique sonic experience and pushing the boundaries of electronic music to explore new territories.
 
You might have heard of him as Arto Mwambe with Christian Beißwenger, Black Spuma with Fabrizio Mammarella, Crabsticks with Bård Aasen Lødemel, Hotel Lauer with his brother Jacob, T & P with Tim Sweeney, Talamanca System with Gerd Janson and Mark Barrot, Tuff City Kids with Gerd Janson (again), and of course solo as Lauer.
 
His musical journey can be traced back to his early days as a skateboard kid enamored with the sounds of the '80s and '90s. It was through his exploration of electronic music that he found his true calling, diving headfirst into production despite humble beginnings with cheap software and a steep learning curve.
 
While his music is deeply rooted in house and disco, his sound is characterized by its melodic beauty and infectious grooves. He blends elements of nostalgia with modern-day sensibilities, creating a sound that is uniquely his own.
 
As Philipp continues to evolve and explore new musical horizons, one thing remains constant: his true passion for music. Whether he's in the studio crafting beats or behind the decks captivating audiences with his electrifying sets, Lauer's love for music shines through in everything he does. With each new project and collaboration, he continues to cement his status as one of the most influential figures in electronic music today.
 
For him, music is not just a profession but a lifelong passion, something he would continue to pursue even if it didn't pay the bills. We believe his musical journey is far from being over.
