Done this one back in the 199D-something when first figuring out how to sample and mix stuff. Didn't have the best sampling capabilities. Fun little bit: tv's used to have a headphone jack. If you take a VHS tape (90s isht) and play a movie you could run an aux cord from the headphone jack in the tv into the mic line-in in your computer and rip stuff that way, or just loop it from the headphone jack on the computer into the line-in jack on the same computer. You have to have your levels right for that last one-- watch the clipping. I think it's all through the center channel-- hadn't gotten into panning back then. I was just starting out. Meh. Nina Simone (naturally) with some GooGoo Dolls and Aretha Franklin... hence Simone Franklin. Sometimes when naming tracks you get so many folders and files you just try to keep it simple. I had a lot of stuff in this era/period that was pretty dope and due to hard drive crashes, location changes, and other random living life crap just can't find anymore. Everyone has their own sound and style. This one is little byrd doing his thang. It's always fun to be in the studio with other folks. The energy is different... it flows more, but being in a room alone with just the beat is a conversation with energy like no other. Your own memories and feelings vibe with the sounds and things that go into the beat. Most of the times the beat is so good it doesn't need anything else, but sometimes it may inspire you to write something which might inspire you to make another beat. Music is an amazing language, and we're all very blessed to have our say in it.  This one is some Sade samples, in an attempt to have something relaxing but vibrant, bright, like Philly in the spring and summer... or all year around if you know where to go. The second half of the beat was actually produced first and shelfed, and then when listening to it again Byrd went back and added the first half. Sade is amazing, one of a kind. Music makes music. Beach. Pit. some Fireball. and stuff. Space too, but... stuff. 
Hey, it's Byrdo (J-Byrd, little byrd, John-Patrick, etc.)... So where this came from is one evening, can't remember if it was before or after alcohol, but one evening I was sleep having a dream. In the dream I was with a "her" and it was in a zombie filled post apocalyptic version of the world. She'd gotten bit and wanted to go to the beach to die. So we're driving to the beach... she was driving first to get the full experience, but as "it" sunk in more and more then I had to take over with her just steering and eventually just passed out in my lap while driving. Wanted to make sure she could feel the wind in her hair, smell the change in scenery from city to ocean.... Driving thru all of the rubble and ashes of what used to be Venice, Ca, we finally ends up at the beach so she could see the sun set on the ocean one last time. You make things like that a priority when it seems to be just you and them left in the world and everyone else is out to literally rip you into pieces and feed on you mindlessly.... which, oddly, she was about to join the ranks of. So, that's going on in the dream.... As we get to the beach... IN REAL LIFE I gets a phone call. So one friend was having a bit of a meltdown, boyfriend issues, with the crying and fast talking anger and all of that... So I had one eye half open, and could see the room I was in... and somehow, the other eye was closed and could still see the dream. TRIPPY. So as friend is talking and going off on the phone, I'm making a bonfire in the dream, yet still talking to friend trying to calm her down in real life at the same time. So we were kind of enjoying the bonfire in the dream, and eventually "she" slipped away. It was an immense bit of grief. In dreams you're fully there, you somehow know the whole backstory instantly. To an onlooker you just ended up at the beach, but as the dreamer you've been in that world since you were born and know it all as reality so all of the emotions and scenery, everything there is real. So, then comes the tricky part.... still trying to keep friend from crying and whatever while half sleep on the phone, meanwhile in the dream, dealing with having to prepare to put a bullet in the last connection to humanity you have and love outside of your self.... while drinking the last of the fireball. Some stuff happened after that which linked the two worlds in a very odd but exciting way which had to do with werewolves, but later for that.
