I first tried to flip this sample when I was working late. I couldn’t get anything to work so I left it, was a bit frustrated at the time but I held onto the sample cause I knew I had to have another go. There was too much potential to give up on it, just needed to have another listen with a fresh perspective.

Very very happy to have gone back to it to make this beat. I actually flipped the second progression of the beat with the more upbeat feel first, then filtered that to see if I could layer any other chop over to have the filter act as a bassline melody. Always love when that works out, cause the more subtle piano chops worked perfect ontop of the filtering, really lost my mind when making this one. For me when piano based beats are good they’re hard to beat, just something about that instrument over drums is great to me. The way the filtered melodies blended with the more subtle keys really gave the beat a lot of depth and emotion, and I was then crazy motivated to keep on with adding a bit more layering to give the track more variation. Had to make the string chops a  bigger part of the instrumental, couldn't just have them at the end like with the remix.

This beat was pretty long to flip cause of the way the hi hats were in the sample, loads of 16 and maybe even 32 note rolls, which made it a bit tough to sequence whilst keeping a consistent tempo. I had to really experiment with what drums I used cause some sounds would clash with the drums in the sample, defo glad I took my time with it cause I'm really happy with how the drums ended up sounding on this one. 

The beat has that kind of vibe which I thought would fit a pretty grimey acapella, this one from Onyx is too dope, one of my favourite songs of theirs and definitely my all time favourite album from them, 100% in my top 20 Hip Hop albums, just such an enjoyable listen all the way through. I didn't remix all the verses for this one, the middle two are great verses but the flow wasn't quite geling with the drum pattern like the first and last verses, so I decided to just remix them this time round. I have remixed those middle verses before, another one which I'm still proud of, very different vibe though so it was cool to tap into more of the hardcore feel for this one. Thought the title fit well here, the flow of the beat fit well with the flow of the acapella imo. Always loved this track since I heard it dropped on a Stretch & Bobbito show, such a cool feature from Jeru on the record, his intros and outros to the track have a real dope vibe it's hard to pin point why but they just give the track a lot more flavour to me. Hope people like the vibe of this remix, very different to the original: I also left out the first verse cause that has a bit more of serious vibe which I didn't think fit the carefree style of this beat. Peaaaceee
