I bugged out crazily when I first made this beat, I couldn’t believe the loop I flipped and was just vibing out, sending snippets to all my close friends who are into Hip Hop. Because of this I really really rushed mixing it, I just wanted to get it saved on my computer and in retrospect, I’ve always been really unhappy with how it sounded. The main problem for me was the high frequencies, which I thought were too loud and ruined the other parts of the mix, which was a shame. At the time I didn’t notice it too much but something definitely sounded off, but I’ve learnt a lot since then and I’ve been wanting to improve the mix on this beat for a while. There’s only so much you can do with a bad mix (I never actually saved the beat cause my MPC disk drive was broken back then) so it’s been pretty difficult to get this beat sounding how I would have liked it to, but I think it sounds a lot better than it did.

I made this from 2 different old beats, the first one has a pretty angry vibe to it, and the 2nd is a smoother flip but still with a hardcore vibe to it. I thought they would both go well together, as the original beats are both in a similar place conceptually, but were missing an element to them, and I think by combining the two I made a beat which is more complete and convincing in communicating a hardcore/angry style. I went all out on layering the drums to build on that hardcore style, especially the kicks which I wanted to gel with the bass to give the track that boom to it.

This was one of those beats that was just mad fun to make. It's always dope when you get a piano sample which is so crazy that you just stay motivated to get it chopped up asap, to flip whatever it was that made it stand out to you. With this beat the sample was so nice I ended up making a couple of loops, pitching my chops up and down to experiment with different sounds. The chops at the normal pitch were shorter, which made for a more upbeat, choppy kind of vibe. To contrast against that, I then pitched the sample down loads for the second flip, which came out more smooth and fluid cause of the chops being much longer, which worked well for the second part of the track. It obviously makes a huge difference having more than one flip in terms of variation and song progression, and it's something I always try and do now when flipping a sample.
