These are 3 old beats which I’ve been sitting on for ages, I never felt like they were enough to do a full remix with, they’re pretty raw and I didn’t think they were polished enough to use basically. Then as soon as I did my remix of the Cypha Session from vol 2 of the Echo Unltd tapes, I had a feeling I could use these beats for a remix of another Cypha Session, they just fit the raw rugged vibe of a freestyle cypher in my opinion. I thought these 3 worked well together cause they’re all piano flips, with that simple but hardcore vibe to them. I structured them in this order cause I thought they gradually built on each other in terms of energy, the first is more laid back (but still fits the hardcore almost sinister vibe that the Cella Dwellas bring), the second speeds things up flow wise and definitely ups the energy, and then the 3rd beat is like the crescendo of it all, with a lot more low end and general volume to the sample, going with the most hyped up verse from the cypher with the craziest flows in my opinion. Because I knew I wanted to use multiple beats I chose the cypher from the volume 1, mainly because it’s the longest but there’s also a mad variety of flows which I then tested the beats against to see which ones would fit best. I think each of these beats fits the vibe and attitude of the different verses well, with the overall vibe being a rough and rugged feel, like the last Cypher Session remix, but hopefully the vocals are clearer this time. Cypher Session II

It was crazy when I made this beat, didn’t even remix anything over it for ages, was just mad content with the overall vibe and way I’d chopped the sample. When I first put this acapella over it I had Raekwon’s verse at the start, and then Ghostface second, and I left out Cappadonna’s verse. ( https://soundcloud.com/tapeheadloops/mac-knowledge-knowledges  ) Back when I made that I knew that Ghostface sounded best over the first beat, the flow was perfect and his style fit all the beat cuts perfectly, so for this I had him at the start to bring that energy to the track as soon as the sample comes in properly. I didn’t use Cappadonna’s verse before cause I didn’t know how to reduce resonance in vocals back then, so it was dope to get his verse over the beat cause it matches it well I think. For Raekwon’s verse I decided to switch it up and rework a really old remix, which had him over a grimier sounding beat which I always thought fit his style really well. ( https://soundcloud.com/tapeheadloops/street-astrologists ) Since then I’ve got the drums sounding way better, and managed to blend the beat with another one I made ( https://soundcloud.com/tapeheadloops/time-1 ), so it’s dope to have properly executed that idea and have a complete remix of this song down, it’s definitely a classic from one of my favourite (and underrated I think) Wu solo albums. I always rated the carefree but focused vibe of this track, all the emcees are really showcasing their skills, so I wanted to build on that whole effortless/flying vibe that you can get from skill focused lyrics like this. Cause of that I thought it made perfect sense to use Iron Man visuals with this, cause of Ghostface adopting that as an alias and you hear references in his lyrics here, the album also being named Ironman, and the fact that the flying cartoon visuals fit the vibe of this beat really well.

I haven’t really thought about remixing this track again since the last time but when I was making this beat I was hearing the acapella over it straight away, whilst I was making the different flips and working out the layering I kept finding myself spitting these verses from DOOM in my head, and I began to structure the beat around how it could fit the verses. Again this is really going for the emotional side to what DOOM’s talking about, but in an even more aggressive way. For last year’s remix it was more subtle with the piano being a lot quieter and subdued, the vocals too. This time the sample has way more aggression and weight to it, conveying that pain in a very different way. This made me sure I wanted to remix the track again cause I’d be doing something different, whilst still focusing on the side to the subject matter which I find most powerful personally. I think it’s cool how here the beat is initially quite happy sounding and carefree, the piano definitely is not sad melodically like the time before. When I was chopping up the sax parts of the sample I knew it would change the vibe though, and I thought that was perfect to layer when DOOM starts moving away from the positives of the Ladies and towards the negatives. I tried to structure the melodies in this way throughout the remix, with the ‘making love to a shadow’ vocals coming in towards the end as the track crescendos, I thought those vocals were a good fit with this track, speaking on the empty ‘shadow’ relationship that drugs ultimately bring. I’m definitely happy with how this turned out, I can’t decide if I like it more than what I did last year, they’re so different to me which is ideal honestly. I will say I’m glad I gave this one more of a journey, not just one vibe for the whole track, instead fluctuating from hopeful melodies to more aggressive sad ones, to mirror how DOOM seems to be happier when he’s first meeting the Ladies, but with time begins to point out their flaws and reflects on the negatives. 

Hope people like this remix, definitely let me know how you feel about it when compared to last years, would be really interesting and helpful for me, I’ve been thinking about it a lot since I’ve been working on this.
