From the start of this year I knew I wanted to update the mix on Crime Side, thought it would be dope to have a full length remix of C.R.E.A.M. over that beat, and had been planning on dropping that on 26th July. On Monday 13th June I was trying to work out what to do as a remix for that week, and I decided to see if I could do anything with ‘Bring Da Ruckus’. That immediately got me thinking about doing a full length remix album for ‘Enter The Wu-Tang’, and the rest is history. The last month and a bit have been crazily intense but I was so motivated to get it done and each track kept me dedicated to completing it. There were times when I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to remix every track cause I didn’t want anything sounding forced, but I kept coming back to certain tracks, trying out different beats and eventually got everything worked out. ‘Clan In Da Front’ and ‘Shame On a Nuh’ are the two last tracks I worked out, and they ended up being some of my favourites off the album. Very glad I persevered and got the whole album done, it got me thinking about the future too, this is without a doubt something I will be doing again for different artists: MF DOOM, Nas, Big L, Mos Def, the list goes on. I’m very happy with how this project turned out, and think it works well as a tribute to one of my favourite albums by the Wu, which if you haven’t heard I highly recommend. Will defo be dong remixes focused on all their solo albums too. Can’t wait to release more projects like this, next one will be a MF DOOM tribute album. 

I've never really done a full length beat tape before, so I thought it would be dope to release an instrumental version of the album. I used a really wide range of beats here to fit the very varied styles that the Wu can bring with their vocals, so I think it works as a long instrumental album with a focused but broad sound. The melody for this beat is what I made out of a sample sent to me by a producer called Javi, who thought it could work well as a collab. Because I use old hardware that’s the best way for me to do collabs, so if anyone plays music and ever wants to send me melodies feel free, I never know what’s going to inspire me and will make beats out of anything really, as long as the sample gives me ideas and motivation. As soon as I heard this sample I got mad ideas, it was about a minute long with a few different sections, some just piano and some piano, strings and other elements. The BPM of the sample was actually 138, but the way I chopped and flipped what I wanted to use changed that to 94.7, which is what I normally do with faster samples, and it’s always dope cause you end up making a completely new melody. To start I flipped the more ‘full melody’ with strings etc, and then filtered that to add my favourite piano chops on top. It was the sad vibe of the sample that really motivated me here, and I think by layering different melodies that helped add to the overall feel of the track which I was for sure happy with.

When I made this beat I knew I was going to use the ‘change’ vocals from the sample, so once it was finished I immediately thought about putting this acapella from Tupac over it as a remix. I think it turned out nice, very very different to the original which is always dope to me. I did have to alter the pitch of the acapella to get the singing to match, it worked really well cause I layered some subtle singing chops from the sample (lots of ooos and vocal notes with brief words), which blended with the singing from the Changes Acapella, made the whole thing sound more cohesive and convincing as a remix. 

Overall went for a pretty different vibe and sound with this one, I think it’s quite upbeat but still very emotional which I always rate and have a preference for, had to make it different due to the whole song being about changing, both the sample (which is more about changing yourself), and the acapella (which is more about changing ourselves). I think the two go together well for obvious reasons, got a strong overall vibe and message.

I'll always remember how angry I was when I made this beat. Just one of those wack days surrounded by bad people, but at the end of it I was determined to get something positive out of it by making a beat. Kept it simple, my main focus was defo on getting something good on the pads that I could flip quickly, and I really lent into the hardcore vibe to vent that anger hahaha - was defo happy with how it came out at the time, and since then I've improved the mix by really bringing out the low end as much as I can.
