Shelley was a radical Romantic poet of the early nineteenth century. He was married to Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, and the pair travelled around Europe with fellow poet Lord Byron. Shelley drowned when he was only twenty-nine, but he produced hundreds of poems in his short life. In this poem, Shelley shows how in nature two things often meet and become one –like rivers joining or moonbeams falling down to touch the sea. He uses all this as his argument to plead for a kiss from his beloved.
