Brecc - The Fallen [TARBLK008]

We continue our voyage into the unknown with a surprising turn into stripped back sounds, courtesy of international talent Dietriangle. Deceptively minimal, these are dance floor crushers for real. The EP opens with the mainly percussive Recursively, all clicks and stereo effects. Insomnia quickly follows up, adding an infectious bass groove and some classic machine noise. The original tracks are rounded off with Irrational, another solid deep rolling groove. Of course it wouldn't be Taro without a nod to our roots so we enlist two of our brightest names to serve up remixes. Kaylah goes in tough and forward, his brand of kick thunder underpinning the sounds of an angry mechanical animal. We welcome A Birth Defect back once more, as they spray around snares and give their vision a rather scary nightmare feel.

Dietriangle - Insomnia (Kaylah Remix) [TAR41]

Balrog smashes his way onto Taro Black with an array of supremely confident rave cuts. Sirens, horns, classic stabs and ripping basses are all underpinned by some seriously heavyweight low end. This is well composed stuff indeed, and if you're able to stay standing up you'll most certainly be dancing. The remix package is brought to you by a pair of hard Taro royals, none other than Tassid and Brecc. Each of them bring their flavour, stoving your face to pieces in the process. This is how it's done.

When it comes to Taro Black there is always a healthy injection of rave stylings and label newcomer Rown takes that idea to its logical conclusion and just a little bit further with this killer EP. Hard acid flavoured grooves, industrial clanks, pounding kicks, it's all here and the energy is through the roof. Label boss Taro Division throws his remix through a metallic chamber and turns the distortion right up, whilst recent contributor Balrog returns to the fray with a straight-up pounder.

But to be honest the thing that's really on my mind as I write this is how we've been preparing this EP with its incredibly prescient track titles and me having to submit it as the world is literally burning. So, the soundtrack to our times I guess, perhaps he saw it coming... Remixes from Taro veterans Rowka and Syrette inject plenty of klank and rave in equal measure.

BRAIS is back! Fresh from his foray on our Taro Extra sublabel, we bring the Spanish talent back for a full EP. This is some warped stuff indeed, with opener Fake News pelting fast out the gates and a lead line that just twists all around in phrases. Taro favourite Metrocat jumps in to turn it into a deeper nightmare, as only he can. Whisky & Striptease as a sub heavy breakbeat number, with crazy one shot sounds, again forced back into techno territory on the remix by Taro Division (although not without its own break). The EP closes out with more synth weirdness in the form of 36. All in all, a release to unnerve you.

Featuring Jonathan Lykes of Black Joy Experience, this EP takes his liberation chants and sets them to electronic rhythms to fire up the soul. In return for his gracious permission we have agreed to donate 50% of all profits to his project. Black Joy Experience seeks to build a holistic energy praxis in movement and organizing spaces as a mechanism to cultivate joy, love, healing, resiliency and a commitment to envision the next 50-100 years of Black and Brown cultural, political and economic futures. Taro Records and küetzal are proud to amplify this message and hopefully provide a little support through sales of the EP. The music itself is tough, grooving techno for the most part, percussive for the floor, but also broken in places and infused with rebellious energy. Label bosses Taro Division and Aaron Udy both hit the remix separately this time, on request from the artist.
