She’s since earned the reputation for her unique and punchy sets heard on Boiler Room at Unter: Latin America, Basement and international stages like STAUB and the former Griessmühle in Berlin. Adrestia continues to grow as an artist with the success of her debut track release and premiere in 2020 and her recent VA release, all found on her electrifying label, Whirlwind Trax.

It’s always a pleasure putting together a mix that slowly builds that tension, but also evokes a shake-your-booty kind of mood at its peak. I tend to gravitate towards tracks with vibrant energy, but still a sense of playfulness to them. Lots of driving percussion, sassy vocals and feel-good grooves that give you those special goosebumps on the dance floor.

With her collective’s focus on diversifying lineups by elevating artists of color in techno, Adrestia has had a hand in developing the rapidly expanding underground scene coming out of Brooklyn. After gaining attention for her Boiler Room set at Unter: Latin America in 2019, she’s since earned the reputation for her unique and punchy sets heard at local gatherings like Fourth World, Dominion, a Discwoman collaboration party and the club, Basement. While she also made marks internationally at an ALKHEMY and ARTS showcase at Griessmuehle and STAUB in Berlin.


What inspired this mix?
I feel like it’s fair to say that we are currently experiencing a Black renaissance in arts and culture. After years of perseverance, and now the global movement for Black lives, the spotlight on Black creators has never shined brighter. As a BIPOC myself, I feel even prouder to be contributing in my own way. This mix is inspired by the energy and vibrancy I see every day in the artists I admire, the breathtaking work I discover and the unstoppable movement for racial equity.

What makes you feel powerful?
When I express myself through art is when I feel the most powerful. I was classically trained as a dancer growing up, so whenever I stepped on stage to perform I felt like the strongest
 version of myself. Now as a DJ, and most recently learning music production, I feel powerful having the control of my expression at my fingertips. I don’t need to say anything. Music does all the speaking for me.

Xiorro is undoubtedly one of the brightest stars emitting from an invigorated American techno scene. Having co-founded ALKHEMY, a collective whose genesis is dedicated to spreading diversity in techno and giving space for the marginalized, people of color and women to play, their Black Hole parties over four years have helped redefine the landscape of New York’s emerging underground.

With his Puerto Rican heritage and namesake taking reference from the African revolutionary Marcus Xiorro, he now finds himself an American abroad after impressing with debut sets at Tresor’s New Faces and Berlin party Staub in 2018, which a single season later led him to become Griessmuehle’s first international resident DJ.

Touted by DJ Mag as a one to watch and landing in Magnetic Magazine’s 15 Best Techno Tracks of June 2020, DJ sets and live recordings have made it over to Boiler Room, United We Stream and Beatport, as well as the DSNT, Lobster Theremin and Monasterio Moscow Podcasts. Xiorro’s DJ style and sound are inherently found in rave, with all roads leading to a self-released mix he emerged within 2018 called ‘techno used to be a tool used to abolish a form of slavery, now it's just gentrified’. Something Xiorro is here to change.

Booked for headlining sets in his home city’s Basement club to gigs further afield at Jaded in London, Copenhagen’s Ved Siden Af, Tresor West and Basis in Utrecht, Xiorro continues to co-host nights with the likes of Discwoman and ARTS at both sides of the Atlantic.

Xiorro’s own ravey and brazen sound is highlighted on his label, Whirlwind Trax, as well as in his appearances on labels like Voxnox, Gomboc, WarinD Records, Voight-Kampff and Haus of Altr.
