Jiver And Tarun Balani In Conversation

Artist, beat-maker and composer Tarun Balani’s latest single and video, “Dr. Escher”, announces his solo project - Seasonal Affected Beats. Balani builds an aural and visual landscape through a coruscating live performance.
“Dr. Escher” is inspired by Dr. Ambdekdar’s speech at the meeting of the Constituent Assembly of India, on 16th December 1946, and the Dutch graphic artist M.C Escher’s work. 

For his latest release he’s collaborated with US based drum technology company Sunhouse.Inc, filmmaker Adrien Tillmann and producer Rohan Ramanna.

Seasonal Affected Beats (SAB) is a new transmedia performance project and the monicker of drummer-producer Tarun Balani. Better known for his critically acclaimed debut record Sacred World which has said to “Point to the future of jazz ” (Time Out, Magazine), Tarun broadens his palette by a gripping new collaboration with a drum tech company Sunhouse Inc. as Seasonal Affected Beats. His latest single Hypnagogia confirms Balani’s idiosyncratic talents, and his determination to deliver ground breaking improvised electronic music.

Regarded as “one of the finest and most successful jazz drummers and composers to emerge from the country ” (The Wild City ), with his latest release “Dharma” on Berthold Records, Tarun delivers yet another fearless, imaginative and heartfelt set of music.
While Tarun continues to feature his genre bending quartet with trumpeter Adam O’Farrill, pianist Sharik Hasan, guitarist Olli Hirvonen across the globe, he also broadens his palette with a gripping new live act as Seasonal Affected Beats in India.
On his debut EP 2° as Seasonal Affected Beats, he brings the finesse, controlled volatility and discipline of jazz and merges it with malleability of electronic beats.
An inward and spiritual experience for Tarun, music has had a very special impact on his life, in finding his voice as an artist, and building a career as a composer, performer and an educator. His music is driven by a restless desire to be a holistic artist, and inspired by his Indian roots.
Tarun’s music has been featured on WNYC, MTV, VH1, Coke Studio India, hr2 Kultur, Red Bull Music, and HIT95FM. Tarun endorses Zildjian cymbals and Sensory Percussion.
