For our 50th edition and almost a year since the inception of this mix series we are ecstatic to have one of the undisputed legends of the house and techno scene to celebrate this milestone: @djnickwarren.

You can tell when Nick Warren is on the decks. The music emanating from the DJ booth is that perfect club mix of driving percussion and soaring musicality, bursting out of the speakers, soaking everyone in melody, drenching them in sound.

To this day, Warren remains at the forefront of club culture: he packs clubs and arenas worldwide from London to Buenos Aires to Burning Man, transfixing dancefloors with his distinctively forward blend of credible progressive sounds, deeper tunes, atmospheric layers and any other grooves Warren deems appropriate for his turntable.

Nick Warren became one of the first so-called "superstar DJs" in the mid-to-late '90s, holding down a high-profile residency at Cream in England, touring around the world, and appearing on several DJ mix albums before they became commonplace. Though he spun an eclectic array of dance styles in the late '80s and early '90s, he eventually championed the late-'90s trance sound of labels like Hooj Choons and joined the ranks of other superstar DJs like Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, and Tall Paul.

Warren moved to Bristol in the 1980s after having just turned 20. By the early '90s, he was one of the city's top DJs, spinning upstairs at Vision, one of the city's first super-clubs. At the time, Warren spun everything from dub and hip-hop to house, which became his preferred style.

When fellow Bristol artists Massive Attack left to tour America in the wake of their early success, they invited Warren to accompany them on tour as their official DJ, a testament to his turntable skills as well as his reputation at the time. Eventually, Warren began a massively successful stint as the resident DJ at Cream in Liverpool.

The years that followed saw Nick Warren enjoy a whirlwind of success. Through a combination of providing acclaimed mixes for Mixmag, DMC, and the hugely successful Global Underground series, and releasing a string of club-smashing solo singles, Warren found himself catapulted into the electronic and house big leagues; and, by continuing to release acclaimed albums, singles, and remixes with his Way Out West partner-in-crime, Jody Wisternoff, and remixing tracks for the likes of Lana Del Rey, he firmly established himself as a truly multi-faceted producer of top-quality dance music.

Having already graced the decks at every self-respecting super-club on the planet and made his name as a superstar DJ, the late Noughties saw Warren turn his hand to the business side of the music industry. Now, as the A&R of Bristol-based Hope Recordings, he spends his time seeking to hone and promote the next generation of club-smashing DJ and production talent; and, through the expansion of his label The Soundgarden into a globe-straddling international events and entertainment brand, set in stone his already firmly-established reputation as a giant of electronic, techno, and house music.

Atlanta is quickly becoming the place to be if you're a fan of the underground, and local DJ and producer ZeXter plays an important part in its ever-growing legacy. Besides being classically trained, he also boasts a degree in sound design and audio engineering, setting him up for success in the music industry. Originally, he was drawn to the trance and progressive scene, but it was techno that would ultimately flow out of his studio. And with one gander at his discography, it's clear that this was always his true calling.

ZeXter's music has the ability to make the world around you fade away with monstrous dance floor fire starters and atmospheric mood setters like "Dietary Relapse," "High Stone," and the recently released "Fanta." He's equally great when it comes to his remix touches. Some of his best work can be found within his interpretations of Ana Lilia's "Fantasmo," Purson's "Hypnosis," and Coutts' "Bloodhound." And, when it comes to his inclusion on some really cool compilations, he's got that covered too. A great example being White Line Music's 100th release celebration album, Centennial, with "All I Have."

On the live front, ZeXter could be found regularly serving up his banging beats at favorite hangs like Odyssey and events like the Subtle Warehouse/Block Party and sets at Sunset Festival. He's also spreading his sound around the world, and just last year he popped over to London to work with White Line Music. In addition, ZeXter has turned his dreams into reality, playing at one of the most iconic weeks for electronic music on the planet, Amsterdam Dance Event, as well.

With his talent in tow and the community lifting him up, there's nothing stopping this rising star! ‘Camargue’ gets a fresh treatment on Drumcode, as a handful of techno’s finest give new life to an R&S classic. 

Coming from the studio of CJ Bolland and Portuguese journeyman The Advent, the track was born out of a golden age of Belgium dance music and first released in 1992. It stands as one of the most treasured pieces of vinyl in Adam Beyer’s collection and this six-part compilation of remixes and remakes marks a highpoint in Drumcode’s history. 

The package consists of a punchy pin-sharp 2019 version of the original, as CJ Bolland and The Advent polish the edges of their time-honoured rave favourite. Maceo Plex makes his return to DC after 2014’s ‘Conjure Dreams’ and his is a bustling industrial take, with distorted vox that gives way to sheaths of stirring melody, before the spine-tingling chords enter the fore and the cut drops into broken beats. Vintage Maceo. Enrico Sangiuliano delivers a trademark cosmic rework underlined by tribal bass stabs and twisted synth lines to accompany the famous riff. It’s an outstanding remake that’s already a big summer favourite for the Drumcode crew. Adam Beyer and Layton Giordani team up with their own groove-injected, future-focused adaption, all the while never losing sight of the misty-eyed spirit of the original. In contrast to the peak-time prowess of the other respective versions, rising Dutch talent Keith Carnal moulds a liquid smooth interpretation heavy on hypnosis and sparse drums. The Advent rounds out the package with his own fresh version, a whip-smart cut that chops and changes between pounding drums, dreamy synth interludes and warbled effects.

Played the chords from the MIDI through a Scarbee MK1, layerd it with guitar and put drums on it. (The shaker is from BeHoward13)
Unfortunately i couldn't find anyone to sing on this which would have filled the space in the track quite nicely i think. Still had a lot of fun doing this and spent some hours soloing over it after it was done.
