 A common Romany diminutive and term of endearment; Nin-Nin is the latest project between Melbourne-based violinist and producer James Titherington and the travelling singer-songwriter Tasha Zappala.  The duo combines jazz and gypsy influences of the last century with folk melodies, nomadic stories and hypnotic harmonies. The pair blends time with intricate violin solos crooning sweetly over Zappala’s old-world vocals, fast-paced guitar rhythms and one-woman-banded percussion. This new act is one with a timeless, soul-wrenched sound that shouldn’t be missed.

Silence

Self-recorded and produced in Hobart, Tasmania, the songs are sirens of obscurity, disassociation, excess and disorder; dense with static, synth, noise, conversation, dream and melody. They are a cocoon of all that we are surrounded by, and also an escape – blurry, encompassing and abrasive. The album acts as a retreat from the uncertainty and contradictory experience of the present, and the tracks, as a result of this, are chaos.

- It's kind of for this 8 year old girl I met, who was severely underprivileged on the Island, she was knocking on our door asking for change each day, and she would have breakfast with us, usually just bread.  At the same time though, the travellers I met at the time were skipping meals on purpose to keep the high of the drugs that they were taking.  We were in one of the most spiritual places of the world, but still they couldn't find peace.  She sold my friend a bracelet, and I still wear it (: its pretty.
