We welcome Tasnneem for the seventeenth edition of our 'Deep In Mix' series. Born and brought up in Surat, Gujarat, India, she has been DJ'ing for seven years and producing for over 4 years now. 

Drawing influences from some of the world’s finest musical legends, Tasnneem has always managed to blend in sounds that speak the loudest to her in all of her sets. Having grown up listening to a wide range of music, from the inimitable legends such as Herbie Hancock, Ray Charles and Chuck Berry to classical Indian maestros like Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and the more contemporary acts like Niladri Kumar and Karsh Kale, she’s always looking for new, and innovative ways to take elements that are signature to all her inspirations and incorporates them into her sound.

Her sets are an echo of her personality — groovy, exotic and edgy yet soulful and melodious. Playing an eclectic mix of Jazz, Funk, Nu-Disco, Deep House and Techno, she has always managed to translate her love for music as a means of escape into a sound that would have the same effect on her audience, yet get them to dance their feet off on the dance floor. Having played alongside some of the renowned artists like Lost Desert, Modd, Soul Button to name a few, her DJing has ensured that she has carved a place for herself in India’s electronic music scene.

We dug deeper into her true territory in a recent conversation, here's what she said - "Ashwin (one-half of Audio Units ) introduced me to this side of electronic dance music, I enjoy playing quite a few genres, depending on the time of the day, venue and the type of setting." On asking about her most memorable playing experiences, she shared that "Tribe in Colombo, Sri Lanka, was an interesting experience, I loved being a part of both the editions of Cymbal, playing Echoes of Earth was a big tick mark on my checklist. I absolutely love doing my monthly residencies at The Tao Terraces, Bengaluru and Tabula Rasa, Hyderabad."
"When I do a radio mix, I usually free myself from the restrictions of the dance floor and focus more on the journey", she adds.

Tasnneem curates this eclectic mix with all the new music that she's currently digging including flavours of Deep, Minimal, Melodic, Hypnotic, Leftfield Techno and Breaks, creating a vibe that speaks to the body and the soul.

Deep In Mix 17 with Tasnneem

Gamayun - Normally depicted as a large bird with a woman's head. In the books of the 17th-19th centuries, Gamayun was described as a legless and wingless bird, ever-flying with the help of a tail, foreshadowing the death of statesmen by her fall.
She is a symbol of wisdom and knowledge and lives on an island in the mythical east, close to paradise. She is said to spread divine messages and prophecies, as she knows everything of all creation, gods, heroes, and man.

We are half way through 2020 and boy what a year this has been so far! Lucky for all of us, music has been our saviour in these dark times. As we kick off the second half of the year, we invited a special guest to take over Distant Grooves. 

Sri Rama Murthy aka Murthovic is a name that’s synonymous with talent, experience, experimentation and excellence in the Indian Dance Music scene. In his musical journey of almost 20 years, Murthovic has been pushing the envelope as an independent electronic music composer, sound designer and a DJ. As a music producer and DJ, Murthovic is known to use a very unique hybrid organic / digital process to record and perform his music. His sets are often a dark, melodic, story telling sessions which leave the dance floor mesmerised each time. 

This month’s Distant Grooves Guest Mix is another stellar journey curated by Murthovic especially for our listeners. Featuring Tracks & Remixes from Musumeci, Re:You, Santiago Garcia, Roman Flüegel, Esteble & many more.
