For this week’s DETECT we welcome @alt8official.

Whilst mixing has always been a passion of ALT8, it is in production where he comes alive; beginning to make his own music in 2019 following an awakening to the vibrancy of the techno genre, he drew influences from old school hard techno when devising drum sequences. 

That isn’t to say that melodies are left out in the cold; rather they are delicately paired with the harder, industrial elements in certain tracks - as can be seen most prominently on his ‘Hope in Darkness’ EP on Manchester’s ‘Moments In Time’ imprint, as well as labels such as Rave Alert & R Label.

This podcast is the result of over two years of work. I want to show how diverse techno actually is, because I think this is often forgotten these days. Since 2015, Varya Karpova has made waves in the DJ scene. She swiftly transitioned from techno to hard-dance genres in 2016 after entering the music industry. Drawing from early 2000s trance and old school rave, she defies genre constraints.
