All proceeds from the release will be donated to Refugee Action, a charity that aims to build safe, happy and meaningful lives for refugees in the UK.

YOKUBARI is Hisham Akira Bharoocha, an american percussionist, composer, and visual artist based in New York City, which focuses on electronics, drum and sampled sounds. Yokubari, which means “greedy” in Japanese, reflects Bharoocha’s love for every genre of music; a greediness for wanting to incorporate disparate sounds into a song structure or DJ set.

With YOKUBARI, Bharoocha aims to create music that entwines the multi-faceted cultures we all come from, to expound upon the interconnectivity of the language of sound, and to embrace the rhythms we experience in daily life as a resplendent yet chaotic balancing act. His debut EP on Chinabot will be released on the 4th of May 2022.

The title of this EP is ‘Sakai’ which means “border” in Japanese. On this EP, Bharoocha attempts to express the push and pull one feels when they are born from multiple cultures, trying to be accepted by those distinct cultures, yet trying to show self acceptance from being forever different, forever on the cusp.

Perhaps best-known for his role as the drummer and founding member of experimental rock band Black Dice, his precise and complex sense of rhythm drives Sakai through a kaleidoscope of textures. Touching on techno, ambient and experimental noise, Sakai remains sonically true to Bharoocha’s own unique cultural background.

Duswunder closes Adrenal Vision with Stamina. The track opens with energetic percussion before dropping away as a precision-engineered, ultra-low bassline emerges. Gradually drums are reintroduced as a soaring synth melody brings us back to the affective heights of the record, punctuated by mangled bass stabs.

The fifth transmission on BRUK comes from Chewlie, a breakthrough artist from Switzerland adept at sculpting tense, sharply defined atmospheres with eerie amounts of space and dreadful amounts of bass. Following up on her 2022 Creature LP for YUKU, this eight-track deep dive explores nervous hallways of dislocated rhythm with a UK soundsystem attitude and a subtle but striking approach to sound design.
 
In contrast with the strident melodic tones of Creature, Chewlie demonstrates her versatility as a sonic artist (alongside her established work as a graphic designer). Understated moodiness is the key here, resulting in powerful heads-down immersion heaters with stand-out moments to make the floor fall in line amidst meditative, patient pauses in between. In the field of leftfield dubwise club music, Chewlie’s voice strikes out with purpose and poise, slotting into the firmament of BRUK as another natural misfit in the many-sided bassweight landscape.

For the labels third EP-Release, Ghosttown Records is especially excited to present four tracks, written by their very own Brootworth.

The complex, fast and techy rythms, underpinned with spheric synths are going to take you on a powerfull trip through bassmusics’ borderlands. The intense breakbeat-roller Trance Floor opens the EP with a pressure building introduction, its raw spirit and jaw-dropping drum pattern, while Chaos compromises all these elements into a mercyless dancefloor weapon. Slow Dissolve, rich of beautifully crafted synthesis and undeniable vocal references, represents the even more profound aspects of these fruitfull experiments, balancing on the cutting edge of jungle breaks and bassheavy grime. Finally See? rounds up GTEP03 with a deepdiving take on modern dubstep hybrids, cementing Brootworths reputation to skillfully deconstruct his musical influences, just to rebuild them in his undeniably unique approach to soundsystemcultures’ finest sounds and beyond.

Supported by some of the most challenging selectors out there, like Mumdance, Dangermami, LCY, Bloomfeld and more, these tunes have already started to leave their imprint on dancefloors worldwide, and will for sure continue to do so!
