In late summer 2017, Nicolas Rada continued to cement a growing reputation with the twin-track "Sheremetyevo". Now returning to the EP, a pair of new remixes find French and Dutch talents in fine form as they take on partner track, "One-One Eleven Thousand".

From Sneek in northern Netherlands, Daniel van der Zwaag has been in immersed in music from an early age, part of a "musical family" that saw him familiar with piano and guitar from an early age. Using these skills as a firm foundation for a foray into electronic music, Daniel quickly found himself as an integral member of a tight-knit community of DJs and producers, centred around his hometown. Thus, a collaborative and fruitful partnership was formed with fellow Sneek resident, Ferdy, which has seen the duo celebrate a host of original releases including the outstanding "Raindrops" EP on Particles in early 2015, while February 2017's "My Polyphone Girl" saw a stellar quintet of tracks full of innovation, technique and craft. October 2017's "Lost in a Dream" EP for Oleeva Records marked a debut solo outing, continued now on Particles as Daniel van der Zwaag takes a typically impressive path with his penchant for intricate melodies and mature production. Creating a strong percussive framework, an impressive bassline progression lays the foundation for a swathe of counterpoint melodies to interlock against each other as strings and pads create an evocative and melancholy edge against fizzing open hi-hats. Using his creative flair to full effect, van der Zwaag has created an impressive and original remix.

An artist with a rich and varied history in the world of dance music, Rick Pier O'Neil is an iconic figure. An accomplished DJ from the age of 14, O'Neil was quickly thrust into the limelight during time as remixer for Sony BMG. Going on to work with a stellar cast that included Donna Summer, Lenny Kravitz and Ultra Nate, US Billboard Chart success followed as Rick Pier O'Neil became synonymous with high-calibre and successful dance music. Building on his US success, O'Neil then took the bold step to begin his own record label coinciding with a move to a more considered, underground dance sound that continues to provide him with success. Nearly one thousand production credits sit proudly against the Frenchman's name with almost 500 on his RPO and Garbage Records, while evidence of his sought-after production work can also be found on the catalogues of JOOF, Toolroom and Sudbeat. A regular on Particles with his collaborative work with Desaturate, the "Spirals" and "Crouched/Cursed" EPs have been notable highlights as have remixes of Kastis Torrau and Donatello and GMJ. Now returning to the label, The RPO remix of "One-One Eleven Thousand" retains the central bassline groove of the original while forming a deep new rhythm section around it. Clever use of Rada's melodic elements filter into proceedings as the track evolves, while new production material gives the remix a rich new feel.

With two outstanding new remixes from Rick Pier O'Neil and Daniel van der Zwaag, "One-One Eleven Thousand" is cleared for take-off.

Progressive Astronaut Review: The release concludes with Ezequiel Arias making his label debut and presenting his first production of the year in the process. The Argentinean artist had one of 2017’s biggest hits with a remix of ‘Tell Me’ by Galestian on ICONYC which enjoyed a six month run in Beatport’s Progressive House chart. A contribution to Replug’s ‘Defined 01’ collection rounded the year out in style and now his 2018 journey begins with a sensational remix of ‘Subside’. The tempo comes down just a touch but with a fuller, driving groove and radiant backdrop the effect is quite incredible. If you’re looking for an example of where progressive house sits at the moment this is certainly it. The reliance on rhythm and groove as opposed to overbearing elements has put the genre in a great place and Ezequiel has nailed that here. No doubt already in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, expect to be hearing this one a lot in the coming months.

Welcoming Imran Khan to the Proton Music roster, his "Organik" debut is set to make a sizeable splash with remixes from UK and Irish legends. 
"Organik" is thus a beautiful piece that is the perfect antidote to life's stresses on a warm summer's evening. An artist who has been a central pillar in dance music's underground house, Barry Jamieson is an iconic and legendary name with over two decades high-profile experience. Having worked with Sasha on his ground-breaking "Involver" and Involv2er", Jamieson's solo career has found a similarly elevated level of success. With his music wedded to the acclaimed microCastle, Quivver's Boz Boz and his own Circular Sounds Recordings, Jamieson's Mono Electric Orchestra pseudonym has seen him feature on John Digweed's Bedrock and Nick Warren's Hope Recordings with stunning results. Remixing Kastis Torrau and Donatello's "Ida", under his own name, Jamieson now returns as Mono Electric Orchestra to rework "Organik". Creating a sonic landscape of unparalleled quality, heavily effected reverse reverb hints at Khan's motifs as orchestral passages sing across the mid-range. Hitting its stride, a huge glissando bassline punches through the low-end in stripped back glory against a ticking percussive cadence, before the melodic structures build once more with a plucked riff and rousing string passages that are straight out of the Sasha production playbook. The result is a remix that is at the very pinnacle of underground dance and a timeless classic. Known simply to Proton Music faithful as Silinder, Gavin Mulhall has witnessed a long and distinguished history with the label. Aptly describing his music as "deep, dark and hypnotic with a melodic theme", the Irish artist has led a jewel-encrusted career with support from Sasha, Digweed and Zabiela to name but a few. 400 production credits sit proudly next to the Silinder name and his work has consistently found its way onto an array of blue-chip labels that include Sudbeat, Perspectives Digital and Jackpot Records. Over 30 of those credits can be found on Proton Music evidenced by the "Corrupt", "Solas" and "Basement" EPs alongside a varied selection of remixes. Now returning after February's remix of Embliss, the Silinder interpretation epitomises his trademark sound. A deep rolling groove combines with mesmerising bassline, driving beat and metallic percussion to create the perfect foundation for an immaculately placed collection of cleverly entwined melodies to meander across the near 8-minute piece. Sound Avenue begins the new year by showcasing new interpretations of Madloch & Subnode’s ‘Lion’s Mane’. Originally landing in March of last year it marked the Belgian imprints 100th release. Backed by remixes from Navar and Bookwood, the project earned praise from progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J. It continued what has been a creative partnership between the Belgian artists, ultimately leading to new studio experiments due out later this year. Sound Avenue now re-visits the duo’s ‘Lion’s Mane’, by inviting Dmitry Molosh and B.A.X. to re-interpret the track for 2020.

Returning to the label and providing the first interpretation of ‘Lion’s Mane’ is Dmitry Molosh. The Belarus based artist continued to dominate the progressive music landscape in 2019, showcasing his music on Beatfreak Recordings, Beat Boutique, Replug and Sudbeat Music. Now getting the new year underway in fine fashion Dmitry delivers a powerful rendition of ‘Lion’s Mane’. Always a creative remixer, the Belarus native deconstructs the main elements into something decidedly more progressive minded, for what sits as an ideal complement to the original. Atop a tough, punchy foundation comes buzzing stabs and striking percussion, resulting in a unique contrast of character and groove. It’s a remarkable sonic marriage, one which makes for a hugely energetic journey, elegantly peaking through an emotive break, before an exhilarating final act puts a cap on this chugging gem.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Lion’s Mane’ is B.A.X. The Vietnamese artist has found a home on Sound Avenue subsidiary 3rd Avenue where he has appeared three times. Also laying claim to releases on Droid9, fryhide and MNL, B.A.X. now makes his much-anticipated Sound Avenue debut with a gorgeous take on ‘Lion’s Mane’. Timeless and haunting in equal measure, it’s unique beat pattern, ghostly wails and melodic fragments make for a compelling intro. It’s free flowing narrative builds on a more esoteric slant as impassioned pads and scintillating arps converge as the break commences. Tasteful pianos and icy overlays make for an emotive interlude, resonating on a profound level and perfectly transferring energy into a glowing finale. A stunning remix from B.A.X., rounding out a superb remix edition for Madloch, Subnode and Sound Avenue to begin the new year.
