candid confession here:

i spent a long time debating with myself about whether this song was "good enough" to put on soundcloud. after a few weeks, i've decided that what matters most to me about my songs aren't how polished or pristine they sound, but the meanings behind them instead.

this song has a sense of nostalgia to me that i can't shake. it reminds me of people that i miss, and places that i want to always remember. to me, that's way more important than sounding perfect. 

i hope that it reminds you of warm memories too

around this time next year, you'll be smiling again

i've been thinking a lot lately about the places that i used to visit when i was a child; the settings of which you can't recall more than one or two vague details. there are a few spots that i hazily revisit from time to time, usually accompanied by memories of family and friends. for me, i have this reoccurring daydream of an old hiking trail that my family used to walk together. it was brimming with flowers and all kinds of bright, friendly foliage. yet, despite the scenery, the paramount detail was being together with my family. i suppose i was too young to realize that small moments like these were the ones that i would come to treasure, and miss.

i made this little song a while back, and i'm sorry that it took me this long to share it with you. it's a reimagining of the clock town theme from majora's mask, originally composed by the wonderful Koji Kondo. i wanted to make something that really sounded like a tune you might remember coming from your old N64. playing this game always reminded me of nostalgic moments from my childhood, as i used to just be content with wandering around clock town for hours. the rainy weather on the second day in town always left me with a feeling of happiness and comfort. hopefully you can find a place like this of your own as well

it took me a while to figure out where this song came from, and how it took this shape. a part of me was simply looking for something to be happy for, and i guess the rest of me was so tired of looking elsewhere for inspiration that i just latched on to that fleeting whim.

i think it really came from the growing appreciation i realized for the friends who have shared moments with me, whether they were big or (seemingly) small. in the memories i have of riding bicycles across wooded streets, visiting the lake on mid-summer days, or watching a grand fireworks display, it's the faces that surrounded me then that turned those moments into memories.

and i hope that we can all enjoy these kites together, at least once more.

this is a small piece of a project that i hope to one day complete, as a symbol to all of the people that i've spent my life with thus far of just how much they mean to me. it's a humble, flawed, and ultimately human effort that can't even begin to realize the weight of such prolonged support, but i nonetheless want it to stand as a reminder to myself (and hopefully anybody who also sees it) of why life is, and will always be, worth pushing further into.

to those who are here now, or were there in the past, i say thank you. and to a particular friend who has helped me through every step of these meager songs with bright smiles and uplifting words, i cannot express my thanks enough.
