Durch seinen Freundeskreis hatte @franandco schon in seiner frühen Jugend viele Kontakte zu orientalischer, insbesondere persischer Popmusik. „Außergewöhnliche Klänge mochte ich schon immer“, gesteht der Musiker. Nun hat er einen neuen Track produziert: „Shah Parvaz“. In den ersten Teilen der Nummer hört man ein Kanun und gegen Ende die orientalische Flöte Nay. (...) Das Stück „Shah Parvaz“ kommt mit einer gediegenen Bassline daher. Kurz nach einem intensiven Break folgen die hypnotischen Vocals. Paul Hazendonk is back on his own Manual Music label for the second installment of his Signature Series trilogy.

The Dutch industry veteran, who in his career has released music on labels such as Sudbeat, Diynamic, Hope Recordings, SOSO, Einmusika, BluFin and many other great labels, always brings something unique to the table, not being limited to one of the many subgenres that are currently out there. A trademark feature he once again proves with these two fresh new cuts.

He kick things off with the emotive and moving 'Every Moment Matters'. A dreamy melodic track build on a solid ground layer of what's best described as a minimalistic, percussive and funky as hell techno arrangement.

Like with the first Signature release a couple of months ago, the second song on the single, titled 'XOS' in this case, is a bit more of a straight forward affair. Build around a mysterious and distorted melody arrangement, this track quickly evolves into a peak time dance floor burner.

Two classy piece of electronic goodness here which will already make you look forward to the third- and final Signature Series release which is scheduled for later this year.

Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With ‘Tragedia', Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists all across the world to bring these themes to life.

There is much to laud here. Swiss Stil vor Talent heavyweight Several Definitions kicks things off with the afro-house of ‘Roots’ while Stevie R collaborates with vocalist Djanan Turan and violinist Master Dani on the huge ‘Misirlu (Acid Version)’, ahead of his soon-to-be-released debut album. The impactful opening trio is completed by ‘Mubaraq’, which marks the debut of Argentinian artists Brigado Crew and Crisstiano on Chapter 24, following their contributions to the Diynamic and Jeudi labels.

Hungarian Sobek adds to the package with the tense and powerful ‘Croco In The Marsh’. Then ESP Institute, Futureboogie and Culprit artist and hero of We Love…Space Ian Blevins offers ‘Tuesday’s Child’, a driving and melodic cut that paves the way for the breaks and synth workout of label co-founder Sam Pauli’s ‘Sleeper’.

Finally, Los Angeles-based Rinzen ends this wide-ranging compilation with ’Temple’, a forward-thinking widescreen progressive techno piece with the perfect emotional lift to close things out.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories.

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away...

« Time » is an emotional masterpiece built with amazing pad infused bells and a rolling heavy bassline who put the floor in a dreamy atmosphere, lost in a moment.

The B Side « Snooker » is showing a different part of Ikarius' talent. This one is a peak time dancefloor killer based on a heavy tom bassline with hypnotic synths. 

Two remixers are on board this time :
Pavel Petrov from Bulgaria is showing is talent with a massive rework of Time.His techier approach is doing the business with his magical groove touch and he has put some Ethnic sounds into a wonderful breakdown.

Rafael Cerato came with a switch of Snooker, putting an Afro vibe with his own percussion vibe and a traditional moog vibe to get a totally different version of the original track.

Marking a milestone for their fledgling label, Adana Twins present the very first Various Artists compilation to be released on TAU. ‘Spektrum’ comprises eight fresh cuts from a diverse lineup of artists representing the Twins’ community of friends and musical acquaintances. In keeping with TAU’s ethos there are lesser-known talents side by side with more established exponents of the underground.

The VA kicks off with the Adana Twins themselves, delivering the melodrama on a cut named ‘Jumanji’. The rhythm is simple yet deadly, with a juddering low end and spinetingling synth lines. The tension builds gently, until we reach a crescendo towards the end of the track. Innellea is next with ‘The Things We’ve Accomplished Together’, a dark cut underpinned by a dour atmosphere. The main riff feels familiar as it increases the pressure, rousing you into a state of ecstatic energy. Ede & John Falke take us into dark wave territory with their moody cut, which feels as though it’s come straight from eighties synth heaven. Next we take a trip into the humid canopies of the jungle with Santiago Garcia & Speaking In Tongues. ‘Lost In A Jungle’ features a myriad of exotic sounds, tribal rhythms and percussion straight out of the Amazon. Enchanting mysti- cism and wild allure make this one a very special cut indeed.

Track 5 is Mulya & Sobek’s ‘Upfront Venture’, a simmering journey into the depths. A modulated low end grumbles and snarls, increasing the tension alongside a dainty riff. Steadily building into a breakdown that will send shivers down your spine. This is followed by more tribal-inspired music, this time from Nenor & Eyal Rob who use indigenous vocal clips and organic-sounding drums to create a mesmerising composition on ‘Odehya Nbiya’. Luis Junior plays with our minds on ‘Tuning Instruments’, a playful motif forms the main body of this cut, which is twisted and warped during an epic breakdown, before we’re treated to a soothing bassline. Last up, German don Daniel Bortz takes us ‘Down To The Moon’ with an exquisite roller full of dreamy atmospherics and laid back vibes. A fitting finale to an excellent collection of music.

Title cut ‘Anamorphosis’ is by definition a distorted projection where the image can only be viewed from a specific vantage point. Gentle rolling lines ease you into a swirling atmospheric arp, pulsating deep bass and captivating hook. Night Talk judges the layers and melodic breaks to perfection, adding just the right amount of tension when needed. ‘Anamorphosis’ is a refined piece of work that absolutely deserves repeat plays.

‘Conquest’ is the forty-second release on Aftertech Records, this time by the Dutch Arp Legend, QuiQui. On this EP you will find yourself in a wonderful journey through powerful melodic techno tracks with great additional remixes by Bessiff and Footprint.

The title track “Conquest” starts with a mesmerizing arpeggio right at the beginning. It doesn’t take long before a strong brass is introduced which works in perfect harmony with a growling bassline. While they melt together the melody starts to unfold, telling the story which is the Conquest. A wonderful piece of art by QuiQui, what a way to make his debut to Aftertech Records!

“Request” is not one to mess around with. It starts out strong, dark and ominous. Rumbling basslines, deep dark synths that set the rhythm and sinister echoing noises fill the air. Then a melody arises to glue it all together. While it brings you further into the track it all comes to a massive breakdown where QuiQui makes you drift away in an amazing tension building break only to let the track come back strong than ever before. What a trip!

Bessiff is the first artist who is on remix duties. He works on the wonderful arpeggio skills of QuiQui while adding an extra layer on top which makes it even more spacy than it already was. The groove is simple yet compelling and takes you towards a powerful play of synthwork which will destroy many dancefloors for sure! What an epic remix by Bessiff!

The remix of Footprint is something else entirely. He lets the ground tremble with his massive bassline and starts with a build-up that will make people lose their minds once it reaches the climax. Instead of following up on the power he suggests in the build-up, he creates a wonderful space to get lost in, before the actual drop which does the real damage. In this remix, smartly placed percussions, deep trembling basslines and mesmerizing synth work are key. One hell of a track to dance too in the late hours!
