Following his latest contribution to Innervisions Limbo compilation and a personal EP on TAU, Skatman returns to his home of Scatcity Records, offering up his second album Aromanticism.

This eight track collection defines Skatman's current artistic direction as well as his vision for the future of his label and the melodic scene. We see him bring his sound forward as a more minimalistic approach to the deep and melodic sounds that have shaped him over the years.

Skatman’s mission with this LP is to bring back the integrity to the sound he loves, taking it to a new level and triggering a change of direction within the niche that is melodic electronic music. The name ‘Aromanticism’ is a reference to the revolutionary aspect of the realism movement that happened as a reaction to what dominated art and literature in the age of romanticism in the 19th century.

’New Era’ is up first, introducing you to the album with delicate lead lines and a mellow, broken house groove that eases you into the sound of Skatman. ’Sophie Maria’ is again melodically driven, with a soft underlying bass line carrying reverb soaked chords and twinkling flurries of synth patterns.

Skatman starts to darken the mood with ‘Moonlight Shadows’, bringing much tripper and adverse sounds to the stage, paving the way perfectly for the more minimal sounds of ‘Orient Maze’.

‘Intergalactic Knights’ launches into vinyl number two with echoing snare hits and more mind boggling hooks before the chugging, meatier ‘Words Don’t Make Sense’ storms through with an ethereal vocal sample and marching percussion.

‘Purple Rain’ begins the journey back to earth with rattling hi-hats carrying reverb drenched leads and a monotonous bass line. Closing the show is the title track ‘Aromanticism’ which sees Skatman offer up a groovier percussive backbone and 80s influenced pads, gelling around a slightly acidic bass foundation.

Aromanticism LP lands March 19th on Scatcity Records with a special 4 track vinyl edition running alongside the digital.

Frenchman Darlyn Vlys lands on TAU with the Doble Impacto EP, comprised of four brand-new tracks. Darlyn cooks up his productions in his Valencia studio, the Spanish city where he is currently based provides a wealth of inspiration, along with his deeply rooted passion for emotionally-driven electronic music. His back catalogue includes a recent appearance on Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondant label and his music has been supported by some of the scene’s most respected DJs, including Ame and Dixon, Black Coffee, Maceo Plex and TAU’s head honchos, Adana Twins.

The EP begins with its title track. ‘Doble Impacto’ evokes that moody new wave vibe from the off, weaving in emotive strings and spinetingling melodies to spark a range of emotions. Darlyn builds a cinematic experience with this cut, as it diverges into various scenes. Musical storytelling at its finest.

Next up is a collaboration with Scandinavian Indie Dance impresario Bon Homme (aka WhoMadeWho’s Tomas Høffding). ‘Vi Vil Være’ has a more aggressive foundation, flying out of the blocks with a gnarly riff and a gloomy atmosphere. It’s the first time Bon Homme is writing and singing in Danish. His special vocals add that key human element to this one. Guaranteed to tug on your heartstrings and whisk you away to another world.

‘Chaka Chaka’ follows up next, the drums bring this one to life, as Darlyn takes us on a percussion-heavy journey. It’s immersive and captivating, with electrifying energy and big room sounds designed to get your body moving. This cut strikes the perfect balance between drums, bass and atmospherics to create a potent piece of music.

Lastly, ‘Uróboros’ closes out the EP, taking us into dark, electro-disco territory. A hypnotic rhythm whirrs at the core of this enigmatic cut while Darlyn adds numerous layers to cultivate a mysterious yet engaging vibe. After the first breakdown, the energy levels get pumped up and we’re locked into a relentless groove, from which there is no escape...

KOMPAKT fans should have been familiar with the name Nicky Elisabeth for some time now. At the beginning of 2019, Nicky joined the KOMPAKT family and from then on was spotted more and more often not only at KOMPAKT events, but also in the line-ups of renowned festivals (DGTL, Strafwerk, amongst others) and clubs. And who doesn't remember the legendary "Kompakt Pop Up Party" in October 2019 during the Amsterdam Dance Event, streamed live from Nicky's living room, where together with Michael Mayer and Rex The Dog she finally conquered our hearts in a flash? 

Nicky Elisabeth lives and works in Amsterdam and is one of the resident DJs of De Marktkantine, one of the most established clubs in the Dutch capital and long-time host of KOMPAKT parties of all kinds. Anyone who has experienced one of these parties there will find much of the special atmosphere and punchy sound of those nights in Nicky's KOMPAKT debut 12inch "Celeste". 

It seems obvious to interpret the two tracks "Celeste" and "Say" as a kind of loving homage to the KOMPAKT sound of the last three decades. With sparing means Nicky manages to elicit a maximum of energy and catchiness from her two tracks, always carried by a sure instinct for breaks and the right timing for small escalations - something that good DJs simply have in their blood. In the end, it's always about the dramaturgy. 

The two remixes of the title track "Celeste" from the hands of the grand masters Robag Wruhme and Roman Flügel are no less "celestial" than the original. Robag Wruhme in particular gives the piece something wonderfully floating and dreamy in his arrangement, as he also managed to do on his 12-inch "Yes/Calma Calma“ (KOM EX 115). Roman builds in little deconstructions here and there, sometimes going left, sometimes heading right, to finally let himself be carried away by the good-humoured nineties vibe. One can hardly wait to finally experience all this on the dance floor again.

For their twelfth installment, Scatcity welcomes the duo Colossio & Sobek. Label head Skatman also makes an appearance on remix duty.

A versatile EP that combines the influences of both artists, low-tempo, tribal grooves, bizarre vocals, and deep melodies are the core of this EP named "Fragmentado". 

The title track kicks things off with a steady beat, glitchy vocals, and a mysterious melody that carries the listener to a drop with a stabby arp and a syncopated groove.

The Skatman reconstruction transforms the original track to a peak-time sharp synth-driven track.

"Vision Peligrosa" starts the B-side lowering the tempo with a groovy and tribal beat topped with bizarre vocals that hypnotize the dancers till the early hours.

“Murmuros"  closes the EP with deep rumbling drums that roll along as foundations to warming synths and echoing toplines.

Arm-in-arm they team up for three remarkable planet-bouncing adventures, starting with ‘Phénomène’. A butt-shaking, blunt-smoking space disco freak-out, complete with electro-style roboticised vocals, this isn’t just a track – it’s a window into a new dimension. And it comes complete with a killer return trip remix from the Adana Twins.

‘No Flash’ follows. Instantly striking with its loose, swinging off-grid drums and scorching rocket booster synth splashes, there’s 23rd century Italo flavour as we zoom deeper and deeper into the aether before ‘UFO’ brings the EP to an astounding climax. Less of a ‘UFO’ sighting and more of a full-bodied feeling, these are otherworldly flavours on an Area 54 level: in just six minutes the French duo traverse their entire sound palette with aplomb. Big crunchy synths on the intro, hip-slinging bass guitar on the drop and lavish extra terrestrial synth flares, ain’t nobody phoning home when this is playing.

There’s something like a phenomenon, as LL Cool J once told us, but there’s nothing like a ‘Phénomène’. Ready for take-off?
