Over the last month, @qwerty-uiop has opened Realist Alive 002 with thundering deconstructed club and followed it with a tenebrous, candle-lit ambient set for For What We Destroy.

Her Realist mix is a check-in from between these two shows. There is the ever-constant attention to rolling percussion and an ambience translating those twin feelings of ecstasy and incertitude out of soaring synths and snippets of voice simultaneously intimate and operatic. There’s the same ability to mix in a manner that never fails to provide space to breathe, while never not sounding like what one hears is an epistle exclusive to each listener. It’s for dance, it’s for the solitary dead of night. It never wavers from pulsating abrasion yet never yields from the sincerest recognition of how much this music can say when delivered to another. Basically, it’s a qwerty-uiop set and that’s coming to be understandable by name alone.

River now makes her London debut closing Petrichor at Low Profile Studios, 23 May. The week after she headlines b2b with Dosage down the Beacon Cellars, 30 May. So if this is a check-in, it’s one from amidst the emergence of a special talent for whom deserved recognition now comes.
