My cousin Dave is a proud Liverpudlian, and a big Beatles fan. He grew up in Liverpool in the 50s and 60s, and could tell you anything you want to know about his beloved City Liverpool!
He sent me some great lyrics, and the music was born as a sister to "Screaming Leg Blues", which I was working on at the time. Big thanks Cuz, love ya! <3

We have had another magic invite from Mamoru, and Jamie and I have had a lot of fun working with him on this fab classic. It came together quite quickly, as we all felt a lot of empathy with the song and Mamoru's arrangement.
When I finished the vocals, I realised I had sung "take a chance" instead of "shake a hand" on the last line of the second verse..lol.. we left it in!

So much has happened in the World since I was last active on Soundcloud, nearly 3 years ago. The onslaught every day of so many people, animals and our precious Earth suffering, and no end in sight. I have been writing and painting how I feel, but my first recording is far from this, and of another time, a short, simple, and light offering for now.
I was born and raised in a small rural town that saw large amounts of snowfall in Winter, despite being the South of Scotland. We had plenty of hills to sledge down and no need to go to the Highlands. Through the years, in the many places I have lived in, my best walks were snow filled ones with the dogs, and in the mornings setting off when everything was pure and dazzling, and your whole body felt alive. The dogs would leap about so happy, and in turn affecting us, so that we were just as daft playing with them, totally energized! I give thanks for having had this.
This is for my beautiful wee Bridie, who died nearly 2 years ago.

This song is dedicated to my Great Grandfather David Pentland, who was a miner in a little mining village called Rosewell in the Pentland hills just outside of Edinburgh. It was an incredibly hard existence for the men,women and animals that worked there, and also for the families anxiously waiting for them to surface each day.

My huge thanks to Martin for his brilliant work on this! A beautiful, true interpretation that lifts the song to new heights!

After hearing Midnight Blues, John was inspired to write another blues song in the same tempo and theme, but different perspective, and asked me if Jim and I would be interested in doing another collab, sending me these wonderful inspiring lyrics. Although I wrote it straight away, the words so beautifully spoke to me, it has been a while on the go.....sorry John! Along the way other minstrels joined me, and I was delighted to have their superb work on this song,

This is the last sunday morning recording of the year. I have loved George Harrison since I was about 5 years old, and his music and also the Beatles were played all the time in our house by my older brother. George was a beautiful man in so many ways, and another taken from us too soon. My heart is full when I listen to his songs.
Hoping that this brings you a little warmth, and much love and peace for the new year to come.

Haven't done a sunday morning recording for a while, but this morning listening to a brilliant live bash from Amanda Sanderson, I was inspired to bash something out on a first one take. It's a bit rough round the edges, but I enjoyed giving the moothie a blast and the floor a good thump!
For all of you JJ Cale fans, I purposely did not put in the title that it was a JJ cover, as I did not want you to get too excited...considering  how far I have taken it from the original, really just the lyrics have stayed intact, although I've put a little adlib in at the end....as I'll be in San Francisco late summer, one of my soul cities, and long overdue a visit!

Call Me The Breeze

When Rudi ( F.R. Kniel ) approached me to ask if I would be interested in collaborating on a piece of music, that had been inspired by Vocalatti's gorgeous " Gently Johnny", I was absolutely delighted. A beautiful, simple and authentic arrangement, and very moving lyrics, and so I was inspired quickly and added some gaelic...that of the old Ogham tree alphabet, which I love. Here is the story Rudi told me.....
As a young man in 1986, I did a 3 week trekking tour through your beautiful land with a good friend of mine. I remember how friendly and open, and helpful the folk were there. And while on Harris, having trekked far to get there, and tired walking along the road, some handicraft fellows came by in their pick up truck and asked where we were going. They put us in the back, handed each of us a can of beer and drove us 20kms to the sandy beaches, just to unload us and drive back to where they came from. I still remember how the wind blew through my hair on the trip, and how good the beer tasted!  Oh we were free then!
Now I have reached an age when those things come and visit you in your dreams.

Dream of the Hebrides    ( Rudi & Lizzie)

My songs are like buses.......nothing for ages, then a bunch in quick succession!
When Hiroshi hinted to me that he would love to collab, I was delighted, as I very much admire his work! In due course I sent him a song, which he liked and said would be fun to work on.
Usually I keep my acoustic in my songs, as it is the backbone, keeping the rhythm and vibe. Hiroshi has replaced this with a fantastic bass which stays true to the original acoustic riff. From there he meticulously built it up and had the unenviable task of having to deal with my complex vocals. He said it was quite a challenge to organise the instrumentation , especially due to its unfamiliar combination between melody lines and chords, and to the unusual time signature at the beginning.
Thankfully he enjoyed the task and threw himself wholeheartedly in to it, which I think you will hear for yourself, as it is a powerful and dynamic  piece of work....and the guitar solo Epic!!

Just managed to get this recorded this morning before my dog started barking her head off at the neighbours. I ask you, who the hell hoovers on a sunday morning!! lol
So, a wee "warts 'n' all" cover of one of my favourite Neil Young songs. It was years before I discovered that he had written it about his beloved hearse. However, I still hold on to my memories of old times, and left out the last verse (sorry NY fans), as just too long for you all to listen.

There are a couple or so of distortions in the recording, for my snowball mic can only cope with so much, and even though I did several versions after this one and managed to reduce these distortions, they did not have the same feel, even though technically they were clearer.

Saw Donovan in concert in The Pavilion Theatre, Glasgow not so long ago, It was an anniversary concert, and he said that this was the first big place that he performed in, and it was like coming home. He sat crossed legged on a little rug on the floor, despite his old bones and charmed us with his music and storytelling. It was a very vibrant Glaswegian audience, a lot of them probably personal friends of old and family, so a great deal of heckling and laughter, which he took in his stride, and I'm sure he very much enjoyed the huge love and  warmth that filled the theatre that night!
Love his music, and difficult to choose only one, but this was a favourite of a dear old friend.
