Following close on the heels of her Reggaeton-infused, electro-pop single, ‘In Ur Net’, Sydney’s Pop/R&B princess, Taylor B-W, has returned with another powerful, soulful single to add to her ever-growing catalogue.  Known for her bouncy and playful 90’s pop-inspired tunes, ‘Tears Of Coal’ flips the musical script to paint a different, darker picture.  Embracing a folk-electronica soundscape, reminiscent of artists like Jarryd James and Vera Blue, with a nod to 90s songwriters Bjork and Thom Yorke, ‘Tears Of Coal’ is a dynamic take on one’s cautious nature when exploring new love.

‘Tears Of Coal’ beautifully executes the exhausting confusion one experiences when navigating an escalating relationship.  With the help of producer Liam Quinn (Peach PRC, Jessica Mauboy, Lime Cordiale), B-W has, once again, melded her expressive poetry within an electro-pop landscape to create a track that is introspective and personal, yet very relatable.  The see-saw contrast in the music has the listener riding a rollercoaster of emotions.

Not one who typically writes love songs, B-W describes ‘Tears Of Coal’ as being the “closest to a love song” she has written yet.  The song is divided into three sections, each dictating different aspects of love: In the verses, whilst accompanied by plucked acoustic strings, B-W gently laments how past heartbreak has caused her to hold back and feel empty.  The pre-choruses build the tension, as B-W describes being caught up in blind passion, potentially falling into old habits.  Finally, the choruses explode into a wall-of-sound, with crashes, beats and pulsating synths, representing B-W’s confusion and trepidation as she cautiously enters this new romance.

Blending together cool-girl pop sensibilities with a knack for rich alt-R&B notes, Taylor B-W unleashes her new single, ‘Nunchucks’. Built against a rich combination of production, percussion and soaring vocals, the song is packed with fun attitude and spirit to match.

For ‘Nunchucks’, Taylor worked with producer Shivaji at the latter’s Central Coast studio after laying vocal arrangements from home in Marrickville. With influences ranging from Kimbra to BANKS and Halsey, ‘Nunchucks’ is driven by a sense of having fun and living for yourself.
