Taylor Lally is a songwriter and performer from County Down, Northern Ireland, whose music blends alternative pop, lo-fi textures, and lyrical storytelling. Often compared vocally to Rickie Lee Jones with the guitar sensibilities of John Martyn, Taylor’s songs move between the playful and the profound, drawing from her roots, her experiences, and her sharp ear for melody.
Growing up in the countryside near the small seaside village of Millisle, Taylor first picked up a guitar at age 13 when her father gifted her one for Christmas, continuing a family tradition. She quickly fell in love with writing songs, inspired by artists like James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, and Bob Marley. Music became both a creative outlet and a lifeline, winning her school’s talent show and setting her on the path to a life in music.
By the age of 17, Taylor was already performing regularly as a bar entertainer while also studying music at SERC, later continuing at Bangor, Dublin, and BIMM Brighton, where she earned a degree in songwriting. Along the way she worked with and learned from respected musicians including Jim Corr and Van Morrison, experiences that helped shape her as both a performer and writer.
After years of honing her craft, Taylor launched her independent label, Saturn Rising Records, and released her debut single Bliss-Less Musing Life in 2022 — a warm reflection on her time in Brighton and the pull of home. In 2023, she sold out her first headline show at The Court House in Bangor (and a second later that year), was appointed Artist in Residence at Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, and supported acclaimed artists Joachim Cooder, Mary Coughlan, and Teddy Thompson on their Irish tours.
Now, with her latest release “Yabadabadooda”, Taylor steps into a bold new era. Recorded and produced with the brilliant Ian Barter (Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith, Dermot Kennedy), the track introduces a fresh sound built on lo-fi atmospheres, dreamy alt-pop production, hip-hop-tinged grooves, and Taylor’s witty, heartfelt lyrical style.
Based in Ireland, Taylor continues to build a catalogue of heartfelt, left-of-center pop — music that connects deeply while always inviting listeners to, in her words, “follow the mystery.”
