John Tejada (@paletterecordings) is a Vienna-born, Los Angeles-based electronic music composer, DJ, and professor at @calarts. Tejada’s professional output of music began in 1994 and has never let up, including five albums for the revered label @kompakt, plus releases on @pokerflatrecordings, @cocoonrecordings, @plugresearch-music, Seventh City, Playhouse, @defectedrecords, and his own label since 1996, @paletterecordings. Tejada has also been responsible for remixing over 100 songs for acts including The Postal Service, Télépopmusic, The Field, Bomb The Bass, @way-out-west, @kevinsaunderson, @darren-emerson, @gui-boratto-official, @simianmobiledisco and many others. Tejada’s latest venture as Wajatta is a musical collaboration with international star Reggie Watts, having released their debut album, Casual High Technology, in 2018 and Don’t Let Get You Down in 2020 on @brainfeeder. 
Tejada has traveled to more than 30 countries DJing and performing live at clubs—@berghain, @fabric, @rexclub, Womb; festivals such as @dance-valley, @decibelfestival, Dekmantel Festival, Detroit Electronic Music Festival, @mutek_montreal and @mutek_mx, @sonarfestival and Sync Festival, as well as esteemed venues such as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and twice at Walt Disney Concert Hall, both in Los Angeles.

I am pleased that the House legend Joey Anderson is my guest in Portal Episode 54. Four amazing albums, two of them on the legendary Dekmantel label and several great EPs on various labels speak for themselves. Biography:
The sound of Xyiz is originally influenced by the dry, brute and urban sound of the early days of dub techno in germany. Robert aka Xyiz grew up in a small town in the middle of Germany. After initially playing guitar in a young punk rock band, he started discovering electronic music production at 16 and quickly began to develop a passion for experimental sound design and groovy rhythms. At the age of 17 he also started djing on vinyl, at that time still in the genre of DrumʼnʼBass. In 2016 he finally found a genre which is very open to atmospheric and interesting but still danceable rhythms and sound design, that’s when he started producing dub techno and related styles. He startet releasing EPs on the Label Kräuterbutter Kollektiv from Dresden (DE) followed by single Tracks on Pragmat Records and Slope Point where he lately released his first EP for the Label. After a long break from playing vinyl, he lately started collecting in the rhythmic and raw styles of Dub- and Deep Techno.

Lockjaw shows off his diversity and technical capabilities, with subtle switches and hooks invigorating the track making every phrase unique.

Items &amp; Things boss Marc Houle mixes the coveted MOTW.

Growing up in Windsor, Canada meant Marc Houle always had a close association with the Detroit sounds of the 90s. Now in a new century, it’s the man himself who is a leading light of the modern scene thanks to his quality techno work for Richie Hawtin’s Minus powerhouse. Known for both a high quality and quantity of tracks, a love of authentic, old school sounds and of new wave and analog synths, Marc Houle has, together with fellow Minus vanguard Magda and Troy Pierce, entered a new chapter by resurrecting their Items &amp; Things imprint earlier this year.

A label outlet for the weird, experimental and beautiful sounds that the label-heads discover on their travels, it releases a wide remit of electronic sounds from experimental to techno, bringing together (and releasing) the eclectic tastes of the three music lovers who run it, as well as a tasteful selection of others.

As a live artist Marc threads together emotive soundscapes with powerful techno, always playing large amounts of his unreleased material, as you can hear in this exclusive live recording for Mixmag. Fusing brand new material with a couple of standout Houle classics, it cruises through techno before entering the much darker, familiar territories of sci-fi minimal and guttural basslines. 

Marc will line-up alongside Magda and Troy at many of their own Down &amp; Out events in the coming months.
