Time Lapse

With the discovery of human remains older than Lucy, I began to imagine how Lucy might feel about her ancestors being found and gathered together, adding to her family. Now she has relatives to "go home to". This became a fun tune with visions of lots of people from near and far gathering next to a river to celebrate their existence … 4 million years later. Oh, what we don't know.

I wrote this in 2006 after reading an article on some new finds of human remains that are 4 million years old in Ethiopia, I felt inspired to begin a series of tunes based on the idea that ancient people tell their stories every time an anthropologist writes of humankind's curious ways, then and now. 

This is another offering from that dig containing bare bones that I call Ultimately Fossil. (See Playlist for more.)

This song is the first The Eclectic Collective has done with Mark, and we all had a great time making it with him. This song started with Mark, who is a bass player's bass player, giving his raw bass track to Ken, who brought it to the group. Ken laid down his exciting drums to match Mark's bass line before anything else happened, though. Once we had a rhythm section, JJ laid down his dancing electric piano. Once that was in place, Josh laid down the organ. Then it was time for the guitars, played electrifyingly by both Tez and Stephen. Tez plays throughout most of the song, and Stephen added his part towards the end. Stephen also mixed this for us expertly, as always. If you have a beverage in your hands, you might want to set it down. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

Esophagus Metamorphosis- - The Eclectic Collective

This is the eighth in a series of Module Music pieces. It uses fm-synthesis. It is based on a spectrum and sub-spectrum between A4 and F#5. The music is generative and uses both  markov chains and random ranges. The source-code can be found at github.com/danielstahl/module-music-8.
