The Bible states clearly and repeatedly that God created us as vessels and that He Himself wants to be our content. Just as a potter has absolute authority over the clay he shapes on his potting wheel, so God as our Potter has absolute authority over us, His creatures (see Jeremiah 18:1-6 and Romans 9:20-23).

When we believe in Christ Jesus, He comes into our human spirit and fills us with Himself. According to 2 Corinthians 4:7, Christ in us is the “treasure in earthen vessels,” and Romans 9:23 says that we are “vessels of mercy.”

We are vessels of mercy not because we sought God or because we are better or try harder than others; we are vessels of mercy because God loved us and chose us, even before the foundation of the world. Romans 9:16 says, “It is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.”

Now, we may be “vessels unto honor” by pursuing Christ with other believers (2 Timothy 2:20-22). May we all pursue Christ to be filled with Him!

Now more than ever, with the physical world around us seeming more chaotic every day, we need to see the spiritual reality behind the scenes.

God created the universe for His own will, His eternal purpose. Concerning God, Revelation 4:11 says, “You have created all things, and because of Your will they were, and were created.”

God’s eternal purpose is to have the church as the Body for Christ, the Head, so that He might be expressed in all His wisdom and glory. Ephesians 3:21 says, “To Him [God] be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus unto all the generations forever and ever. Amen.”

God is on the universal throne (Revelation 4:2), administrating all things for the sake of His interest. He loves us and cares for us and will not allow anything to befall us that does not pass through His sovereign hand.

We’ve all done it—something bad happens, and our first reaction is to say, “Oh no!” But what if we replaced “Oh no!” with “O Lord!”?

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with saying “Oh no!” But when we call “O Lord,” something takes place within us that will never happen with any other exclamation—we contact the Lord Jesus in our spirit and experience Him in the midst of whatever we’re going through.

When we first believed in the Lord Jesus, we were saved in a once-for-all way; now, we can never be condemned by God. But the Lord also wants to save us in a daily way, and we can begin to experience this kind of salvation just by learning to call on His name.

Romans 10:12-13 says, “The same Lord is Lord of all and rich to all who call upon Him; for whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” The apostle Paul, who wrote these verses in Romans, passed through many hardships—for example, he was beaten, stoned, shipwrecked, and imprisoned.

While in prison, he wrote, “I know that for me this will turn out to salvation through your petition and the bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:19). Paul was confident that his terrible situation would turn out to salvation because the believers were praying and because he was contacting the Lord.

Hallelujah, we can be saved in any situation by calling on the Lord!

Most of us have heard some form of the saying, “Make every day count.” For an athlete, that means, “Exercise every day.” For a musician, it means, “Practice your instrument.” But what does it mean for a Christian?

When we believe in the Lord Jesus, our sins are forgiven. But something even more amazing also happens—the Lord Jesus comes into our deepest part, our spirit, causing us to be born with God’s life as children of God (Romans 8:16; John 1:12).

As newborn believers, we all start out as “babes” (1 Peter 2:2), and throughout our Christian life, we need to grow. As we grow, the Lord makes His home in our hearts (Ephesians 3:17)—in other words, He spreads from our spirit into our soul so that we match Him in what we think, how we feel about things, and in the choices we make.

So, as Christians, our days count when we contact the Lord and finish the day with more of God in us than when we got up in the morning.

Of course, we ought to set aside time to read the Bible and pray, meet with other believers, and share the gospel. But there are so many little ways to open up to the Lord and fellowship with Him while we’re in the middle of a plain old, regular day. We can: 
Call on the Lord’s name, “O Lord Jesus”;
Talk to the Lord about whatever is on our mind;
Sing a hymn or spiritual song;
Pray for a friend; or
Confess our sins.

Whatever we do, we have so many ordinary days. Let’s let the Lord into all of our unremarkable daily activities and MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT!

In Ezekiel 34:26, the Lord says, “I will cause the showers to come down in their season; there will be showers of blessing.”

Although God wants to shower us with blessing, we often limit His blessings by hiding from Him, closing our hearts to Him, or allowing our hearts to be filled with so many other things that there isn’t any room for God. All of our experiences of God begin from our heart, so if our hearts are open and emptied, His blessings can flow.

God especially wants to bless us with spiritual blessings (Ephesians 1:3). God’s greatest blessings come when we spend time with Him and He speaks to us through His Word. Whenever we have His personal speaking, God becomes so real to us. No material blessing can compare to this!

May we all open our hearts and linger in God’s presence until His blessings overflow. We can even pray, “Lord, I won’t let You go until You bless me” (Genesis 32:26). May the Lord rain down showers of blessing upon us!

Why do we pass through sufferings and trials? As Christians, we are not immune to such things; we may feel that we have more than our fair share of troubles. Sometimes as we endure life’s heartaches, we may wonder if our experiences are pointless—do they serve any higher purpose?

The Old Testament book of Job presents a classic case of an upright and God-fearing man suffering in a seemingly unjust way. For centuries, both believers and secular philosphers have considered this story.

After Job lost his children and all his possessions and was struck with painful boils from head to toe, he spoke to God about the reason behind his sufferings: “You have hidden these things in Your heart; / I know that this is with You.” Behind all that he was enduring, Job realized that there was a purpose hidden in God’s heart, a great question to which Job had no answer.

The answer was not revealed until the New Testament age. In the book of Ephesians, the apostle Paul sought “to enlighten all that they may see what the economy of the mystery is, which throughout the ages has been hidden in God, who created all things” (3:9). The economy of God—God’s eternal plan—is for Christ to spread into every part of our heart (v. 17) so that He can be glorified, expressed, through the church (v. 21).

In Philippians, Paul wrote about his own experience: “What things were gains to me, these I have counted as loss on account of Christ. But moreover I also count all things to be loss on account of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, on account of whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as refuse that I may gain Christ” (3:7-8).

Although Paul suffered as Job did, he turned to the Lord in the midst of his sufferings, opening his spirit to receive the Lord as grace and to be filled with Him. We, too, can have such an experience, no matter what we are going through—turn, open, receive, and be filled. Then, in the midst of hardships and sufferings, we will touch the inexpressible sweetness and value of Christ and magnify Him to those around us.
