HANGIN'

The Stay Gold EP represents over two years of work and has been a lot of fun to create.

It’s been a very personal process for me, especially since my style has been slowly changing during the development of the album. It was as if the EP wanted to exist on its own terms, presenting its own story. I’ve tried to incorporate elements into each song which represent and capture this dynamic.

I started writing the first song, “Tai Chi Chai Tea” in December of 2014 which was just about six months after I started produce electronic music.

The sound of that first song was different than the other music I had been creating and steadily developed into a pretty specific style. I wrote “Pullstar” a few months later.

My style gradually changed as I experimented and I began to compose more ambient dance music.

About 9 months later I felt that I wanted to create a few similar pieces to the first two. I worked through the winter months and slowly produced a few demos but nothing that I felt truly satisfied with.

When summer came around I made my way back to my hometown and met up with a few friends to jam (including Jonn who had played guitar for the first two tracks) I asked them to play around on the tracks and loved the results. The songs instantly became funkier and were filled with more emotion. We then spent the summer months writing out new parts and recording the five tracks.

I want to thank those who supported me through this process and helped me grow as an individual and a musician.
