„There is no I in team“ – keinen Satz brüllen amerikanische Trainer in der Umkleide lieber, um den Zusammenhalt ihrer Mannschaft vor einem wichtigen Spiel zu stärken. Doch auch in vielen Unternehmen spielt Teamarbeit eine immer größere Rolle. In ihrem Buch „Building Team Effectiveness“ zählen Christopher Mabey und Sally Caird sechs Hauptkriterien auf, die ein Team definieren – und die natürlich alle auch auf TEAM STEREO zutreffen, sonst hätte sich die Band aus Nordrhein-Westfalen schließlich nicht so genannt.

1) Ein Team hat mindestens zwei Mitglieder. 
TEAM STEREO hat sogar fünf: Kai, Önder, Markus, Chrisse und Alex, die man zum Beispiel von Bands wie THAT VERY TIME I SAW, PHONEY 14, ALOHA JET oder GUNS VS. TELEKINESIS kennen könnte und die auf „Emo-Zeugs aus den Neunzigern“ oder Dave Grohl stehen.

2) Die Struktur des Teams ist aufgabenorientiert beschrieben. 
Chrisse singt und arbeitet tageweise bei einem namenhaften Musikvertrieb. Önder spielt Bass und ist DJ im Ratinger Hof in Düsseldorf. Markus sitzt hinter dem Schlagzeug und hat ein kleines Musikstudio. Alex und Kai spielen Gitarre und haben vor über zehn Jahren Redfield Records gegründet.

3) Das Team hat eine Identität, die sich von den individuellen Identitäten der Mitglieder unterscheidet. 
TEAM STEREO machen keinen 5.1-Dolby-Surround-Hochglanz-Sound, aber auch kein eindimensionales Geschepper, sondern einfach nur gute Musik. Laut und leise, langsam und schnell, in Moll und in Dur. Und natürlich in Stereo.

4) Das Team hat Kommunikationspfade sowohl innerhalb des Teams als auch zur Außenwelt entwickelt. 
„Wir musizieren und reden zu gleichen Teilen“, so TEAM STEREO über ihre Arbeitsweise. Und das alles in Kais Keller, „umgeben von großen und kleinen Nagern“. Wer mitreden will, der höre das Mini-Album der Band.

5) Ein Team überprüft periodisch seine Effizienz.
TEAM STEREO haben bisher zwar nur zehn Konzerte gespielt, insgesamt haben die Bandmitglieder allerdings bereits viele hundert Auftritte auf dem Buckel. Effizienzprüfung eindrucksvoll bestanden.

6) Die Mitglieder tragen zur Erreichung der Teamziele bei. 
Kai, Önder, Markus, Chrisse und Alex mögen im Schnitt 30,8 Jahre alt sein und ihr Geld mit anderen Dingen verdienen, sind aber kein Altherrenverein, der sich ab und zu am Wochenende trifft und ohne Ambitionen nur für sich selbst spielt. „Unser Ehrgeiz lässt einfach nicht nach. Man sollte meinen, dass Typen wie wir vielleicht etwas Besseres zu tun haben, als sich regelmäßig im Proberaum zu treffen, an eigenen Songs zu arbeiten und aneinander herumzumeckern. Aber wenn du dann schwitzend mit deinen Freunden auf der Bühne stehst, weißt du, dass sich die ganze Arbeit gelohnt hat.“

TEAM STEREO sind also auch ohne sich von irgendeinem Coach anbrüllen zu lassen, motiviert bis in die Haarspitzen und befinden sich mit ihrem Debüt eindeutig auf der Gewinnerstraße. Wie soll US-Basketball-Legende Michael Jordan einst gesagt haben? „There is no I in team but there is in win.“ Go TEAM STEREO!

TEAMSTEREO - Reminder

“There is no ‘I’ in team” – there might be no other phrase that is shouted more often by American coaches to encourage the spirit of their team, before an important game. But also in almost every company today, teamwork is considered to play an important role. In their book “Building Team Effectiveness” Christopher Mabey and Sally Caird name six criteria that define a team – these of course do all fit to TEAM STEREO, otherwi-se the band would not have chosen this name. 

1) “It has two or more members”
TEAM STEREO has even five: Kai, Önder, Markus, Chrisse, and Alex. They are possibly known from other bands, for example THAT VERY 
TIME I SAW, PHONEY 14, ALOH JET, or GUNS VS. TELEKINESIS and they love “Emo-stuff from the nineties” or Dave Grohl. 

2) “Its members contribute their respective competences, within 
interdependent roles, towards shared goals” 
Chrisse sings and works for a well-known music distributor. Önder plays bass and is the resident DJ at Ratinger Hof in Düsseldorf. Markus can be located behind the drums and is owner of a small recording studio. Alex and Kai both play guitar and founded Redfield Records over ten years ago. 

3) “It has a team identity, which is distinct from its members' 
individual identities”
TEAM STEREO do not produce that highly polished 5.1-Dolby-Surround-Sound but it is also not a one-dimensional clash that will find your ears. It is just good music. Loud and fast, nice and gentle, major and minor and of course it comes in STEREO. 

4) “It has established ways of communicating both within the team and with external teams and groups” 
“We play music and talk in equal parts”, TEAM STEREO describe their way of working. They do that in Kais basement “surrounded by big and small rodents”. Who is going to join in this conversation has to listen to their mini-album first. 

5) “Its structure is explicit, task and goal oriented, organized and purposeful” 
Up to now TEAM STEREO only played about ten shows, but collectively all band members have a good few hundred shows under their belt. Trial of efficiency passed with flying colours.

6) “It periodically reviews its effectiveness”

Even though Kai, Önder, Markus, Chrisse, and Alex are 30.8 years old on average and make their money out of other things, they are not a rock’n’roll-retirement-club that meets every now and then at the wee-kends, to make music without professional drive just for its own satisfac-tion. “Our ambitions don’t go down. People might think that guys like us have some better things to do, than meeting regularly in a rehearsal-room, working on our own songs and criticise each other. But when you are on stage, sweating with your friends, you know that it was worth it.”

So even TEAM STEREO lack a coach, they are committed, highly moti-vated and with their debut definitely on a winning streak. How did basket-ball legend Michael Jordan say? 
“There is no ‘I’ in team but there is win.”
