So I made this track for the Score Relief 2022 competition, and I challenged myself to exclusively use free instruments. I used a couple of layers of two different LABS instruments and I'm quite pleased with the result. Let me know what you think!

I've been working on this nugget of nostalgia for a while, using Spitfire LABS predominantly. I also recorded some live guitar. Let me know what you think of the treatment and the sounds!

Pack Up Your Things

Tried to imagine a city or town at dusk for this track, and I tried to land somewhere between Pokemon and Mass Effect, if possible. I used, among other things, Spitfire LABS Lap Steel and a synth bass from eDNA Earth

Suburban Twilight

I wrote this with films like Bridge of Spies, or TV shows like Sherlock or Endeavour in mind. The idea here is for a scene where a character makes a discovery which leads to a montage where several plot elements are revealed

Inspired by thoughts of green shoots sprouting in a previously industrial landscape.

A Brief Romance

Final version of this track for Orchestral Tools' Discovery Competition. I had the galaxy-map screen from Mass Effect in mind while I wrote and mixed it, and it was also influenced by Masashi Hamauzu (Final Fantasy XIII). 

I made use of the Klingon Choir from the Modus-Jeff Russo library, and the pitch-shifting notes you can hear throughout were the Strings: Tension Performer Overtone sound, also from Modus.

Winter Forest (#labscommunity03 #labsstrings #labsfrozenstrings)

A short piece for clarinet and orchestra, which I wrote to practice using Spitfire's BBC Symphony Orchestra and Abbey Road One libraries. The strings are mainly from Abbey Road though I used the BBC Legato on the first violins. The clarinet is BBC and the Trumpets are Abbey Road. Most of the percussion is Abbey Road as well, with some cymbals from the Originals Cinematic Percussion, and a big ol' Tubular Bell from BBCSO.

Clarinet With Orchestra

A short track made using Guy's samples from on the video linked below. I also used Retro Synth in Logic, along with Spitfire's eDNA Earth synth and Cinematic Percussion, and my own Strat through Cory Wong's Archetype plugin from Neural DSP. And there's an 808 snare in there as well towards the end!

Guy's Magic Flute

I wrote this for a competition on the Hybrid Two twitch stream A first attempt at an arrangement of the Latin text 'Justorum animae in manu Dei sunt'. VSTs used include Abbey Road One (strings and percussion) and BBC Symphony Orchestra (woodwinds), the rest I sang.

Sorrow for the Fallen

A short track composed with only instruments from spitfire's LABS collection. I wanted to set myself the restrictions of only using LABS, only using 4 tracks, and writing the full composition in only an hour (I did some mixing separately). This is the result, which I hope you enjoy, although feedback is most welcome!

Winterbird

I wrote this for the 'Score the World' contest; this is a slightly condensed and remixed version. Particularly enjoyed giving Sudden Audio's Raw Strings Libary and Spitfire's Originals Cimbalom library a first run-out.

Man Of Shame

I wrote this originally for the TAETROxLABS competition. I've given it a slight remix here to bring out the low-end a little more. This was also my first time giving the new Low Strings and Woodwinds libraries from Spitfire's Abbey Road range a whirl. I hope I've done justice to the sound of the low strings as they were a lot of fun to crack open for the first time.

Hans Zimme, Ilan Eshkeri and Jacob Shea were big influences for this, on the back of spending most of Lockdown Three watching David Attenborough docs. The music in those is so inspiring I just had to have a crack at doing my own version! Feedback is welcomed and encouraged :)
