Chuuwee and JR & PH7 Pay Tribute To Sactown with The South Sac Mack.

JR & PH7 and Chuuwee are pleased to announce news of their collaborative LP, The South Sac Mack. The project brings the German production duo together with the Sacremento spitter for 17 breezy tracks that epitomize the sound of the new West. The South Sac Mack will give listeners a street level perspective of Sactown, and will be available on all formats on March 24, 2015, from Below System Records.

This is not the first time that both producers have aligned their production talents with Chuuwee. After hearing about Jorg & Peter through a close friend who has worked with them in the past, Chu began an email exchange that eventually led to them working together on multiple songs. 2012’s “Travelin”, “It Is What It Is”, and “Just Like SAC” not only allowed for them to create music for their fans, but also to develop a rapport that forged their chemistry for, SSM. Unlike other bonds between their contemporaries, Chu and JR & PH7’s ties grew stronger organically, and not in hopes of chasing a check; these characteristics reflect beautifully on the album.

With a background in soulful Boom Bap, the album manages to blend '90s fundamentals, with a twist of West Coast sensibilities. The final product is a hybrid, perfect for the modern day head that stands out among most contemporary Hip-Hop works. Thematically, the decision to name a handful of tracks after neighborhoods throughout Sacramento, gives the listener a first-person narrative, that puts themselves in the shoes of Chuuwee, as they get to experience Cali's capital city. Tracks like the stream of consciousness driven “Meadowview Morning”, which describe the area as a microcosm where everyone’s actions are connected, and “Meanwhile Off Mack”, which creates a “Me Against The World” scenario between the protagonist, and those around him through its memorable chorus, allow us to see Sacramento in a unique light. This particular theme is continued on tracks such as the Blu assisted “DueYuu”, "James Rutter (Swim Center)” and “Florin High Flirt”, where Chuuwee highlights the various spots that have all played a role in developing the person that he is today. Conversely, joints such as the rough around the edges “Riverside Ransom,” show that Chuuwee can throw down some gully bars when needed, further showcasing the multitalented efforts of both the rhymer, and production duo.

In terms of crafting the perfect sound for Chuuwee to speak his mind, fostering an organic work flow was the most important aspect for this album to take shape “ We just wanted to create a sound that we feel goes well with Chuuwee and the story he is telling on the record,” say the European beatsmiths. “The whole process was super smooth, and we let it flourish naturally based on the subject matter and the overall scope of the album," they conclude.
For such a broad album that both manages to highlight Sactown’s features, through Chuuwee's words, and JR & PH7's lush soundscapes, The South Sac Mack succeeds in transporting us to the midst of the 916.

“Produced by DJ Premier.”  From Gang Starr, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Common, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, Cee-Lo Green, Mac Miller, Joey Bada$$, Ludacris, The Game & his most recent vehicle; PRhyme; over the course of twenty-five trendsetting years, those four words have become synonymous with the cornerstone of hip-hop’s sound.

However, “Preemo” as he’s affectionately known has always been a conduit for artists of all genres to attach their lyrics to his complex rhythm of the streets--- D’Angelo, Macy Gray, Janet Jackson, Maroon 5, Miguel, Neneh Cherry, Lion Babe, Yuna, Anderson .Paak, & Christina Aguilera (which his work won a Grammy for) to name just a few.  Throughout it all; Grammy’s, Platinum and Gold plaques, undeniable legendary status, Premier has orchestrated a unique sound that remains a hallmark of positive and advanced music.

While Premier has previously collaborated with iconic female artists, in none of the aforementioned examples has the iconic producer/DJ entirely produced one of their projects. With a resume like Premier’s, it takes a lot to get his attention—and perhaps more importantly his respect. 

Enter Torii Wolf, a singer-songwriter and musician from Wantagh, New York who traded coasts–bouncing around West Coast cities and enhanced herself artistically; shunning categories, confinement, and convention.  Torii also just happens to be the first female artist to have her entire project (the forthcoming album entitled Flow Riiot) produced by Preemo.  “Torii has such a weird, wicked style,” Premier offers. “It’s just very left field—reminiscent of a Bjork or something like that. She is so unique and versatile; she writes, sings and is an accomplished guitarist and drummer.  But image-wise, there is no comparison. Subject-wise, Torii is in a whole different place.”

The versatility Premier hints at is evident on Torii Wolf’s first single, the aptly-titled, “1st,” a war-torn and wistful ode to unrequited love and commitment that ultimately leaves more questions than answers, as she ponders “what does it take to keep you from running away.”  Digging into his past catalog, Premier reshuffles the deck on a Rakka Iriscience vocal sample from his “Good As Gone” production from Dilated Peoples Directors Of Photography album to create another spellbinding scratch-chorus “I’ve seen the last come first, I’ve seen the first last.” 

Premiered exclusively by Pitchfork, “1st” offers just a glimpse at the musical symmetry and bond Torii developed with Premier creating Flow Riiot and it happened so organically that Torii feels as if something greater was at play, as if the stars aligned to make this musical marriage happen “The great thing about Premier is he’s a tailor and he has this rare and innate ability to cater his sound around who he is working with to accentuate an artist’s strengths; but you can always still tell its Premier.”  

DJ Premier’s excitement is hard to earn and this woman with a massive voice commanded the spotlight. With a Hip-Hop king who has a habit of contributing and producing historic projects behind the boards, Torii Wolf’ debut, Flow Riiot, brings a full clip of moods, range, and vast musical talent. Torii and Premier’s collaborative union bum-rushes the walls of genre, age, and expectations to let the world know there’s a Flow Riiot going on.
