In his seminal essay 'The Work of Art in the Age of Automatic Reproducibility"("Das Kunstwerk im Zeitalter seiner technischen Reproduzierbarkeit", 1935/39), Walter Benjamin put forward the thesis that the work of art loses its aura due to the reproducibility. In the past, artists like Giorgio de Chirico or Andy Warhol have explored this thesis, be it with counterfeit versions of their own works or with multiple reproduction of a work (Andy Warhol's 'Thirty Are Better Than One"). Il N'ya Pas De Crocodiles À Codody takes up this discussion by questioning the very concept of an aura. Does a work of art have an aura at all and why should copies not have it To whom do we owe the aura term Is it the work of art, the artist or, indeed, the recipient, who by his perception creates a subjective aura Ultimately there are (no) crocodiles in Codody.

In seinem grundlegenden Aufsatz „Das Kunstwerk im Zeitalter seiner technischen Reproduzierbarkeit“ (1935/39) hat Walter Benjamin die These aufgestellt, dass das Kunstwerk aufgrund der Reproduzierbarkeit seine Aura verliere. In der Vergangenheit haben Künstler wie Giorgio de Chirico oder Andy Warhol diese These ausgelotet, sei dies mit Fälschungen ihrer eigenen Werke oder der mehrfachen Produktion eines Werkes (Andy Warhols „Thirty Are Better Than One“ ).
Il N’ya Pas De Crocodiles A Codody greift diese Diskussion auf, indem es den Aurabegriff grundsätzlich hinterfragt. Hat ein Kunstwerk überhaupt eine Aura und wieso sollten Kopien von dieser befreit sei? Wem ist der Aurabegriff zuzuschreiben? Ist es das Kunstwerk, der Künstler oder doch der Rezipient, welcher durch seine Betrachtung eine subjektive Aura erstellt. Schlussendlich hat es eben doch (keine) Krokodile in Codody.

Being a production line of carefully crafted composition with a meticulous production standard, Calyx & Teebee have delivered yet again. And after dominating the Beatport Top 100 with their most recent single ‘A Day That Never Comes / Snakes & Ladders’, they won’t be applying the brakes anytime soon, especially in the lead up to their greatly anticipated second album on the Ram imprint.

Back on vocal duties, Calyx demonstrates the pair’s multi-dimensional approach to beat making. With plucky percussion relaying you through bouncing subs and a drivingly solid bassline, it defines their vast repertoire of style. They’re not scared to dip into unfamiliar territories, with Calyx’s cool vocals sitting on top of lulling guitar rhythms to provide the first part of a diverse and brilliantly crafted record. 

‘Sawn Off’ rolls out next; it’s a grittier track than its predecessor, with a conundrum of hi-hats and aggressive drum patterns. Pounding pads take you towards a colossal break, heighten by the effect of a cleverly placed sample. The track ricochets throughout, not losing momentum or impact, with an intricately weaved structure, one only achievable by a team who’ve been running the game for decades.  

With an album laying just out of reach, each single is bringing us closer and closer to the inevitable. All four tracks prove they’re still a formidable force to be reckoned with; this LP will only emphasise that fact.

"What You Do", is a fantastic piece of dance music, fusing Finnebassen's famous funk and organic beats with a super-catchy, upbeat vocal that will have you singing while you dance… long after the track has finished. The awesome breakdown throws in more elements that make the track complete and cement the feeling.  The B Side, "A Little Somethin Somethin" is the perfect compliment to the former, a soundtrack of deep thoughts and memories, filled with hazy pads, a silky percussion and a smooth baseline.

The remixes on the do incredible justice to the original mix of  "What You Do" and are greatly diverse in what they set out to achieve. The first, http://soundcloud.com/demarzo 's take on proceedings is fully flavoured and the nastiest of the bunch, with a delicious combination of groove, funk and rhythm. Secondly, Mexican rising stars, http://soundcloud.com/nobody-knows-us, bring us a darkly inspiring piece. Thoughtful and deep, this one is a journey into our hearts and minds. The final remix is from one of NastyFunk Records' head honchos, http://soundcloud.com/jonny-hendriks. His version of the original offers a forward-thinking dynamic, fusing contemplation with cosmic beats.

You can completely visualise their cool parties as this sets the mood pretty sharpish with the brilliantly deep opening track, Night Plane – ‘Angels of sin.’ The party continues with a few tempo and mood changes but always with an emphasis on quality stylish house grooves.
