DJ MAG WEEKLY PODCAST: Tube & Berger

As you may have guessed by our extensive coverage of all things Jeudi, we're quite the fans of Doctor Dru's imprint here at Data Transmission, with the outlet quickly becoming one of favourite labels in recent times. For the Hamburg outpost's latest trick, they welcome back Monte, who – you might well recall – impressed upon on the label with a number of releases that arrived to to great fanfare last year and thanks to the glorious sounds of the 'Radical' EP, we’re delighted to announce that the man behind the music has lost none of his nous in the intervening time.

The action gets underway thanks to title track and our choice for premiere, ‘Radical’, a rollicking rollercoaster of a track aimed squarely at peak time dance floors which motors along to give clubbers something to really sink their teeth into. Slickly driven synth lines underpin a sparse yet menacing vocal line full of promise, with the track heaving along as it flexes its production prowess for a cut sure to be finding its way into the sets of house music's more discerning selectors upon release. Backed by a remix from Man Power and frenetic B-side 'Simpler', which jam packed with off kilter energy, is similarly sure to pick up plenty of attention during the small hours in the coming months and add a spine-tingling sense of drama to any set it pervades.

It might come as a surprise to some that Hamburg’s Sidney Charles topped Resident Advisor’s Top 100 Most Charted Artists of 2013, but it’s an accolade that speaks volumes about both his approach to music and his prolific, consistent output. For a producer who only started releasing music in 2011, Sidney’s achievements are all the more impressive. In the space of just three years, his works have graced bastions of house and techno such as Avotre, 8bit, I Am A House Gangster, Moda Black, Off, VIVa, Kling Klong, SCI+TEC, Suara and Area Remote - each release adding to his clout and helping him to become one of the biggest names in the underground. With that, we continue our new series here and in conjunction with Deep House Amsterdam, highlighting some of our favourite labels around the world, we thought we would catch up with Leftwing & Kody and get the scoop on all things Lost Records. Here, you will find information on the label’s history, ethos, releases and future. As you can probably tell by know, we are asking each respective label owner the same questions. With this approach, we hope these showcases will be as educational and informative (for all you aspiring label heads out there) as they are entertaining.

We are extremely proud to announce Nathan Barato’s premier release with Kaluki Music. As well as being a key player at Marco Carola’s Music On he is one of the names at the forefront of the underground scene and a regular guest at our Kaluki events around the world.

Nathan’s original is a main room piece of Tech House with a rolling bassline and the vocals of Kid Enigma that crescendo into a huge drop that has been smashing Nathans sets this summer.

The remixes come courtesy of Manchester’s finest up and coming talent. 

First off is Kaluki Residents Pirate Copy that supply a peak time piece of tech House with breakbeats and a rolling techno bassline that makes this stand out from most other tracks out there.

Next up is Solardo, a big favourite with the Jamie Jones, Richie Ahmed and the Hot Creations Crew again supply a slamming piece of house music already premiered by Skream on his Radio One show.

Last but not least is Rudosa gaining big support from Loco Dice and Richie Hawtin amongst others with his stripped back techno music.

Already releasing music on labels such as Knee Deep In Sound, Suara, and their own Lost Records imprint the duo shows no signs of slowing down.  Having multiple gigs throughout Europe and the UK and future releases on various renowned labels they are solid proof that hard work and determination can help catapult you into the spotlight.

Starting the next chapter of the story Leftwing & Kody bring their dance floor filling productions to Leena Music with the “Detection” EP. Taking us on a trip though raw edgy basslines and uplifting kick drums this music is made for the height of any DJ set. The pair provides three solid tracks that were masterfully crafted with the intention of making any crowd lose themselves in the music and take them on a journey into a distant land full of exhilarating energy.

Next up on the gold standard tech house imprint that is Roush, comes label boss himself, Hector Couto. On the Parental Advisory EP, the influential Spaniard has readied four cuts of to-the-point club music that cannot fail to make its mark.
Hector is one of the most respected artists around with a truly global allure for his brand of house music. He has released on labels such as Defected, Moon Harbour, Hot Creations and Get Physical and is no stranger to the finest DJ booths in the world, from Ministry of Sound to Amnesia Ibiza. As such any new music from him warrants deserved excitement.
Proving that once more is excellent opener ‘Like This,’ a wobbly tech house tune that is full of electronic funk. It has great vocals, swollen bass and siren like synths that really get under your skin and demand you dance. Title track ‘Parental Advisory’ is a real party starter with wild vocals and jittery drums. Off kilter synth stabs and fat bass all make it a hugely fun and characterful tune that is sure to stand out in any set.
Moving on to the essential ‘Old Roots’, this one comes laden with retro breakbeats and a dusty sense of groove. Air horns and crisp hi hats all get stitched into the loopy groove and pull you deeper and deeper in with each rotation. Lastly, ‘Bubble Gum’ comes with a snaking bassline that is tough and rugged. Classic 909 pops and clicks pepper the groove, as do plenty of sweet vocal samples and the result is one hell of a tech tune that sounds like little else.
This is another masterclass in effective, emotive dance music and it marks another fine release for both label and artist.

Berlin-based DJ and producer Wankelmut has created a funky mix for the upcoming Kroongetuige Festival in Amsterdam on the 27th of April - King's Day.

After launching his career with the hit remix “Reckoning Song / One Day”, Wankelmut became a multi-chart topping internet sensation. More recently he's known for tracks like Tesla and his remix of Flight Facilities' Down To Earth.
