Making his second appearance on Clarisse, Italian upstart Simone Liberali brings a brand new three-tracker.

The all-action, funky house of ‘Speedy Voice’ is laced into by a searing ‘Strange World’-style breakdown. The immense synths will have big rooms rattled, giving new dimensions to a track moving under the sun thanks to its foamy percussion and bass. Marco could not be wrong when he dropped it as you can see the crazy atmosphere.

‘Don’t Look Back’ is good advice for those acting on when the beat drops and with nothing else on their mind. A Clarisse classic of kicking deep house, driven by another of Liberali’s bass pendulums, will spike your sweat levels, with a dark and sexy streak made for rump shakers dressed in black generating background backchat and synth builds.

With urgency continuing on an upward curve, no further encouragement is needed once the needle finds the groove of ‘Brusco’. On a tracky old skool house bassline hustle trying some mild acid squelching on for size, it’s heartily measured for a session of designer handbag house that’ll have winter wrapped up in understated glamour. Vocal snippets cheer on a sprinting Liberali into a calculated breakdown, giving you a bit of breathing space before the bouji boogying continues.

Welcome back, Mr. David Aurel! Fresh for 2k18 the young and talented Swiss producer makes a return to the Hive Audio stable with his second full on release on the label, providing two excellent new original tracks alongside remixes crafted by Shawnecy and Leon.

With the title track „Like This“ David Aurel redefines the definition of 'pumping' for this season and brings on a stripped down, yet highly functional take on House music which is surely living up to the expectation bar raised by its massively rolling bassline and carefully placed, well seductive vocal samples.

On a remix tip for „Like This“ is Shawnecy who's surely staying close to the tunes original vibe but explores way deeper, livelier and all embracing sub spheres, adds subtle sweeps and a new, fascinating layer of percussive synth tones and stabs which are building up to a truly mesmerizing, still stripped down climax in House.

The second original tune on here is David Aurel's „No Way Out“, another masterly crafted example of his thrilling signature sound. Once again stripping things down to the very core this is another, slightly more percussive and tribal'esque, House banger mainly relying on nothing but a deep ass rolling bass, funky drums, microcut vocal bits and short, but ecstatic breakdown sequences which all add up to provide timeless qualities for recent and future dancefloors.

With Leon on remix duties „No Way Out“ takes a new route, fusing classic House and TechHouse elements with a bubbly mid-range bassline and beautifully floating strings, endless drum rolls and fascinating main motif sending our braincells into an accelerating upward spiral of pure joy and everlasting happiness.

Moon Harbour welcome German-born, Jamaican raised Melanie Ribbe for a fantastic debut single that is very much going to announce her talents to the world. 

Ribbe is a new and quickly emerging artist who has honed her skills at the London Academy of Music Production having already made her name as a DJ. Her instinctive and effective sets at places like Miami Music Week, Amnesia in Ibiza and Madrid's Fabrik have won her plenty of acclaim and the title of ‘Angel of Techno.’ Bouncing from minimal to more full-blooded tech, she infuses her sounds with her Jamaican experiences and is right on the cusp of becoming a star. 

The brilliantly heavy ‘Get It Right’ is driven by chunky, dubby drums that really will rock the club. Ribbe's sharp, crisp hits are infectious, while a cleverly treated vocal lights things up with a sense of diva soul and party energy. When the drums drop again, they will get fists in the air and bodies popping and take the crowd ever deeper into the groove in the process. 

This excellent new track is sure to win Melanie Ribbe plenty of praise and confirm her arrival on the scene.

Prolific disco/house producer James Curd is perhaps one of the undersung heroes of the scene. With hundreds of production credits to his name on every label worth its salt from DFA Records to Classic Music Company to Permanent Vacation to Lumberjacks In Hell — and of course, Exploited — he has serious skin in the game. It’s finally time for his debut album to make its mark on the world, rounding up 14 of his finest moments to date for Exploited and packaging them up into one joyous blend.
“‘Taken All This Time’ is a catalog of music that stays true to my life growing up in my critical formative years in Chicago” he explains. “I used to make tracks from beginning to end on an MPC2000. I had a studio in my room that was set up on a door that was held up by two overturned trash cans. If I was recording on the mic I had to shut my windows because I lived on the third floor above 90/94. Sometimes I would get WGCI bleeding into my speakers while I was trying to work. It was the best of times. I worked at a record store called Supreme most days. Then I would work on music till late and head out to the club. I had a residency with Derrick Carter, Gene Farris and Diz. I made so much music — especially in the brutal winters.”
You wouldn’t know that much of this record was made in the depths of winter, given the warm, balmy vibe that surrounds much of it. With his magical synth wizardry cutting against jazzy keys, disco/funk basslines, and sublime vocals, it’s a beautiful mix of sounds that is at home on the dancefloor as on the home stereo. Each track contains elements built on his MPC, with all keys, vintage synths, guitars and bass played live. “ In a time where so much music is pieced together by sample packs and drum loops this album is created brick by brick.... or beat by beat. Every keyboard sound was played on an actual keyboard in my studio. Guitars and bass were played in.”
The album draws its influences from ‘70s disco, ‘80s boogie and ‘90s deep house in equal measure, serving as a musical document of Curd’s upbringing. Beautiful vocals are provided by a diverse cast of singers and rappers, including Bear Who? Luke Million, Likasto, Natasha Lillith and KE, with other collaborative moments featuring Fred Everything and Karmon.
The prolific producer has previously worked with James Murphy for a release on his DFA Records label, and works on many film, TV and video game score projects, including for the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ series and 50 Cent’s show ‘The Oath’. But right now, it’s all about this beautiful collection of tracks, providing a milestone in his career that he will be able to look back on very proudly in years to come.
Single and Album artworks were done by James' friend Cody Hudson who is a Chicago based artist known for his graphic design contributions under the name Struggle Inc. and for the production of clean, multi-dimensional graphics, Cody's design aesthetic is part urban modernism, and part organic visual deconstruction.
His graphic work and paintings have been exhibited throughout the US, Europe and Japan including the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), New Image Art (LA), Rocket Gallery (Tokyo), The Lazy Dog (Paris), & Andrew Rafacz (Chicago).
