Soma Records is inarguably one of Techno's major forces in 2017 and since it’s inception on the streets of Glasgow, Soma Records has stood for uncompromising quality of the highest level in every area it operates. Label figureheads Slam formed the label in 1991 together with friends Glenn Gibbons & Dave Clarke and subsequently forged one of electronic music’s most widely known and well-respected labels. Soma quickly began to develop its own sound with classics such as Slam's timeless ‘Positive Education’ and helped launch the careers of many great artists like Surgeon, Envoy, Funk D’Void, Silicone Soul and Alex Smoke as well as the discovery of French duo Daft Punk who released their first rudimentary, raw outings on the label back in 1994.

With their eyes firmly fixed on a vision of the future, Soma began the quest to instil their unquenchable passion and thirst for electronic music onto the world around them.

Box Set:
Soma have enlisted the likes of Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Steve Bicknell, Andrew Weatherall (appearing as Woodleigh Research Facility), Blawan, Adam Beyer and more to provide brand new musical excursions for today's dance floors and beyond. These, coupled with many of today's new, up and coming names in the techno genre like Kobosil, VRIL & Jonas Kopp choosing their favourite tracks from the Soma back catalogue to remix sees Soma’s futuristic vision remaining strong with the celebration of 25 years being one of a forward thinking nature rather than one of nostalgia.

Ostgut’s Kobosil brings Slam’s ‘Visions’ into the prevailing drone-ebbed world, the veiled VRIL douses the timeless X Track by Percy X in his dubbed out demeanour and Jonas Kopp’s EBM workout of another Slam classic, ‘Stepback’ creates the standpoint for the project: “Always forward, never back”. Jeff Mills’ provides otherworldly connections with ‘A Tale From The Parallel Universe’, Weatherall delivers future/retro acid and Josh Wink unleashes a 9min epic dance floor burner. Robert Hood provides a straight up, fast paced dance floor workout; all coming together to form the collective consciousness of the Soma attitude. Slam deliver ‘Tempest’, a track that perfectly sums up the whirlwind last few years the pair have enjoyed as they continue to be at the forefront of the global Techno elite. Completing the assemblage of original tracks is Soma’s own Funk D’Void, bringing his unique brand of jacked up electronics with ‘808 Planet’.

Visual Construct:
In accompaniment, Soma decided it was necessary to match the unique musical sensibilities displayed. This led to collaboration with Scottish artist Kyle Irvine. His highly detailed, powerful yet delicate illustration style is truly unique. Each design was handpicked by Soma especially for the box set, which features exclusive Soma 25 Logo stickers, a poster and illustrated vinyl sleeves. Each individual sleeve has its own story line with enigmatic characters including Lantern Man and Little Bo, who live in a dimension beyond our own. Look out for Kyle’s designs on the Soma25 remix singles and forthcoming, limited edition clothing lines produced in conjunction with Forty Clothing Glasgow.

Now seven years deep into the label’s innovative techno trip, Etruria has made nurturing exciting new Italian
talent one of its key signatures. Bastinov, Dast, Reform, Kaiser, Diego Amura and Toms Due are just some of the
progressive creators Etruria have supported over the last two years alone. 
But for this release it’s down to Luca himself... 
And he’s made sure it’s a deeply Etruscan affair.
Released in the wake of his mass-scene-supported ‘Metamorphosis’ EP and building on a body of work that
boasts tastemaker labels such as Soma, Drumcode and Planet Rhythm, Luca lays down two slabs of absolute
dynamite that not only bang, but also tie his sound, vision and inspiration back to his deepest roots with rich
mythology…
‘Voltumna’ pays homage to the supreme god of Etruscan people. Not just in name and honour, but also in its
powerful dynamic and touching balance of shades thanks to its atmospheric, rhythmic chord. ‘Aplu’ continues
this spiritual theme with a dedication to another Entruscan divinity. An offering to the god of thunder and
lightning, once again it lives up to its name with a barbed rolling dynamic that suddenly cracks open into a
cosmos of light and emotion before hurling you back into the dark drum drama. Thunderous isn’t the half of
it.
It comes complete with two exceptional remixes of ‘Voltumna’ by Slam and Truncate. Soma bosses Slam add
their signature Glaswegian grit with distorted textures that loop in a hypnotic frenzy while Truncate strips the
groove back to a jacking dynamic that becomes progressively bouncier with raw machine funk insistency.
Across the originals and remixes there’s not a corner in techno that isn’t exceptionally explored here; this is by
far one of the biggest and most heartfelt releases Luca has given the world to date. Do not sleep on this one.

Carl Cox is an industry figurehead whos legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell, and the new release is from Matt Sassari. Matt Sassari originally joined Intec working in collaboration with D-Unity but this is the Frenchmans second solo release following his EP on the label at the end of 2017. The success of his first solo release on Intec made a second almost inevitable and since then Matt Sassari has also contributed music to Dense & Pika's Kneaded Pains, Martin Eyerers Kling Klong, Sasha Carassis Phobiq and Monika Kruses Terminal M. On top of this he has also done a top selling remix of Green Velvets classic anthem "La La Land". A multitalented artist, Matt can effortlessly switch between making both techno and house music, but this release showcases his hard side with a thumping style that leans towards the more banging end of techno. Teaming up with German producer Patrik Berg fresh from their successful release together on Terminal M which received heavy DJ support and hit the top 3 on Beatport they are now back together for this next chapter on Intec. Nervosity starts the EP and from the offset takes no prisoners with the relentless pounding of its hammering kick drum. Building in intensity, the tracks ferocity is made more intense with grinding synths and the commanding vocals menacing tones. With a rigid sound that undoubtedly falls under the category of hard techno, this exhilarating track is strong enough to shake the foundation of any club in which its played. Second is Kun Daha which takes its title from the vocal phrases that have a tribal feel to them. Like a spiritual ceremony or perhaps a dark offering, the track has dramatic conga hits and booming tom drums reminiscent of those used by aboriginal tribes. Contrasting with the otherwise mechanical background, this distinctly individual cut has a tough sound and an unusual blend of textures. Not as hard as the first cut but still tailored to the club, this is peak time techno at its most captivating.

Korpus 9 welcome dubspeeka for more of his perfectly spaced out techno sounds, while Frankyeffe and Tom Hades remix to make for another vital package.

Opener Halloran is a surging track built on silky loops and mind melting synth lines. It‘s ci- nematic and evocative and will get the whole club under its spell. The Frankyeffe remix is darker and harder hitting, with siren like pulses and edgy pads all keeping you in a sense of unease as you march forwards. Tom Hades then strips things back to a hypnotic groove, with icy pads and rubbery drums enchanting you as it journeys on through space. Last of all, War Drum is a deep and mysterious cut with more house vibes dominating.

This is another fantastic EP from dubspeeka.
