German duo Obscure Shape & SHDW drop three robust Techno tracks in their first full release on Rekids this May.

One of the most exciting acts in Techno today, Obscure Shape & SHDW are the founders of From Another Mind - the label and party series making waves in South-Germany. Aside from Rekids, where they remixed Radio Slave’s ‘Vision’ last year, the pair’s abilities in the studio have seen them invited by Slam for two separate remixes of Monoloc and Envoy on Soma, with more projects to be announced.

‘Himmel Und Erde’ is a cavernous cut boasting colossal kicks and skipping percussion before a tantalising melody comes into play. ‘Am Ende Der Welt’ is more deep and atmospheric in comparison, blending dusky percussion with echoing synths until ‘Gefallene Engel’ demonstrates syncopated drums and an otherworldly hook that conjure up a mesmerising aesthetic to conclude the release.

Radio Slave’s momentous ‘Another Club’ receives two thumping remixes from SRVD and Charlotte de Witte.

‘Another Club’ was the 100th release on Rekids and dropped as the label celebrated a milestone ten years. It unquestionably became one of Techno’s biggest tracks ever made. Two years later, the landmark production receives outstanding remixes from two of the genre’s most salient artists: NovaMute producer Charlotte de Witte, who’s just collaborated with Chris Liebing on her newly launched KNTXT imprint, as well as the ever-impressive Patrick Mason and Radio Slave who team up again as SRVD.

Charlotte de Witte’s remix of ‘Another Club’ marches forward with pounding 909 style kicks, hooking acid hits, fleeting voice samples and haunting pads. SRVD’s remix then uses the vocals as stabs, adding tension with rave inspired synths, buzzing keys and splashing cymbals, while locking it all together with thundering drums and sub frequency rumbles.

Paris-based DJ & producer AIROD aka Dario Brkic returns to Amelie Lens’ Lenske for his second 12” on the Belgian label, ‘Rave Cycle’. Previous solo EPs on Molekul, on his Elixyr and the acclaimed ‘Voltage’ EP on Lenske earlier this year have brought him to play at some of the most emblematic clubs of the international circuit and become part of the Exhale showcases. As expected from AIROD, this new record sounds like it could have been released in 1994. Ten years ago, Berlin’s Pan-Pot put out the Confronted EP on Mobilee, a landmark release centred around the title track, eleven and a half minutes of slow-burning techno. A decade later, the Second State dons have decided to celebrate their classic track with a reissue that reflects their evolution. Featuring three remixes from Pan-Pot themselves, Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix have also recruited four of the scene’s hottest talents for a diverse, comprehensive remix package that reimagines the source material for today’s dancefloors.

Opening up the remix package, the “Basement” remix by Pan-Pot adds barking synths and snatches of vocal FX in a murky, offbeat edit of the classic. Glaswegian rising star Frazi.er delivers a “Raw”, lean techno tool with subtle tweaks like the crystalline synths piping through the mix and aggressive, springy bass that charges in mid- way through. Farrago, a Lenske favourite from Belgium, takes the listener on a weirder journey built around bounces, bleeps and discombobulation – it’s by far the most foreign departure on the EP and it lives up to the “Welcome to Goa” title.

The “Up In The Air” remix by Pan-Pot removes the pounding kick and turns the mood tribal with steel drums and rubbery, muted basslines. It’s a housier cut well suited to wonky wigouts. French newcomer [ Wex 10 ] takes care of the “Bigroom” remix, ushered in by an outsized, unapologetic kick soon joined by the original’s ominous chords and the cool, detached female vocal. [ Wex 10 ] picks up the BPM, adds some snare rolls and turns in a fist-pumping version for festivals and superclubs. Up-and-comer Anfisa Letyago, from Naples by way of Siberia, sends a rippling acid synth through the mix like lightning in a hi-NRG alternative perfect for trancier sets in her “Stranger” remix. The word “crazy” is set on an electrifying loop, commanding ravers to give in and let go.

Closing the remix EP, the “Paradise” remix by Pan-Pot goes in the opposite direction, opening with bird calls and idyllic chiming synths before moving into breaksy territory. Surprising and strangely dreamy, it completes a richly varied remix package that breathes new life into a beloved classic.
