Recently, Alinep’s music consecutively has entered the Beatport Top 100 Techno releases charts. With his admirable accomplishments, Alinep is Manila’s very own and one of Asia’s electronic music talents to date.

For our next mixtape series, we are pleased to invite a renowned underground duo from India, Audio Units. This is a live mix recorded at the recent Qilla Records Alchemy gig that took place on 6 March 2021 in Hyderabad, India.

The aural language of Audio Units is a discourse to comprehend abstract concepts of science, mathematics, and the subconscious. An auricular confession that asks for a little more from the mature listener: to submit themselves; to be satiated with less; for the musical payoffs may be harder to discern but ultimately more gratifying. A merging framework of fact and fantasy, without artistic compromise while remaining oblivious to the surrounding microcosm. A space-time parabola of shapeshifting rhythms and deep electronic atmospheres created using analog waveforms, dense textures, organic dissonances, and abnormal reverberations leading to an expedition without a beginning or end. 

The Units are brothers Ashwin and Ashrith who spend their time together visiting the deepest realms of techno huddled over their machines and drawing inspiration from science fiction, spatial geometry, architecture, and nature. Their obsession with electronic sounds goes back to the noise of ’80s video games and early introduction to computer programming. Across their discography, their artistic voice is both consistent and sublime, showcasing a unique perspective and technique. With a distinct sound as producers, Audio Units successfully capture and transfer it into their work as DJs. Their performances irradiate with cosmic warmth made possible by a deft, highly technical mixing style taking their audience on a voyage at light speed as a result of an entire lifetime dedicated to electronic music and a deep love of the machines that make it.

Beyond their artistry lies a boundless commitment to Beatworx, Afterworx, and Observant. As the founders of an electronic music school, nightlife agency, and record label, they provide a platform for aspirants to discover and sustain artistic endeavors in the electronic music ecosystem.

Rashed’s earlier influences in music started from jazz and blues and early rock records. Elléot’s latest release, Circus EP, which includes remixes by Jesse Maas (@jessemaaas) and Diego Krause (@diegokrause) on the infamous @DoNotSleepIbiza records just hit the number one spot on Beatport’s release chart. His track "Fairground" has received early support from Rossi (@ross-mccormack-1-2) and Toman (@tomanmusic) who smashed it on the dancefloor earlier this month in Italy.


Elléot has had a string of releases on labels such as Nervous Records, Toolroom, iVAV, Underground Audio, Cr2 Records, Under No Illusion, New Violence and Haze Records. Elléot’s music has gained attention and support from artists such as wAFF, Enzo Siragusa, Loco Dice, Steve Lawler, Sasha, Richy Ahmed, and many more, whilst also having numerous BBC Radio 1 plays.

His upcoming release, La Noche EP with a remix by Andrew Azara (@andrew_azara_music) will be released on @SwerveDigitalUK on 31 July.

For this week’s radio show, we are happy to present to you a two-hour hypnotic minimal techno set by a long time Bahrain DJ and producer, @Salah. The sounds in this magical two-hour mix are set to remain with you for weeks and months. 

Salah is the founder of Andcollective, @Techfui, and @The-Crate

He has played alongside some renowned artists like #LaurentGarnier, #JoshWink, and #SvenVäth. He has also been featured on guest mixes for #RTSFM, #ElectronicGroove, #MorningLine, #TheDeepRoom, #FriskyRadio, #SceneNoise, #DeepHouseToronto, #Revolver, #TechTrip, and #Warped.

Born and raised in Bahrain, he developed his skills from the very young age of 14, performing at the infamous “Tameem” night club, varied underground gigs, which led to him becoming the weekend resident DJ at “Likwid” Bahrain from 1999. Gradually, he took over running his nights at the club, on the island, and in the region, building a reputation that resonated with his Dutch audience in Amsterdam, where he began to make his mark on the international circuit.

His adventures have seen him play in Berlin, Amsterdam, Toronto, and Tbilisi. He’s been behind the decks across Europe and the Middle East and toured India. Aside from repeat returns to Amsterdam Dance Event, he’s played at Pacha Festival Amsterdam, Silver Network Anniversary @ Showcase Paris, and Sven Väth’s 2015 Tour in Beirut, as well as at a few intimate gigs at the iconic Studio 80 Amsterdam, The Woods Brussels, and Lisi Woods Tbilisi.

It is from within his passionate soul that he reaches out, with a style of music that spans deep - house - groovy - electronica - techno - acid - disco - dub - abstract beats and pieces that get under your skin; a truly experienced versatile style that never fails to infect the listener with a dirty groove.

YO:FO loves to experiment in new sounds as long as there is a story and wobbling bass behind it. Deep Tech and Groovey Tech House as of lately been his new test subjects, but Techno keeps on Thumping no matter what in his sets.

This week’s special and exclusive techno mix is delivered by the obnoxious father of the #underground techno scene in India since 1997, Iggythebastard, a.k.a. Iggy, a.k.a. Ignatius Camilo (@iggythedj), who comes from the land of sea, sunshine, and underground madness, GOA, India. Iggy is a DJ, club-owner, label owner, and fashion model.

This vinyl-mix is made spontaneously using three decks. Iggy likes to keep it real and move music through the decks, instead of using computers. Iggy has consistently maintained his style of delivering RAW and truly underground music, as well as his tireless contribution to society and the environment. 

Iggy is well known for his frequent long (8 hours) sets and has performed non-stop for 24 hours. He is the only DJ in India who can play 20 different styles of music with flair, consistency, and flawless mixing.

Iggy’s humble beginnings were at beach shacks and dingy bars, where he would carry speakers on his mother’s scooter in the late '90s, and there onwards worked to perfect the quality of his sound so that people could distinguish between mere music and the nuanced emotional experiences it entailed.

Moving forward and further sonically to major cities like Mumbai and Delhi, receptive audiences there gave him the push to play the way he desired, and as his love for vinyl grew it wasn’t long before he became recognized as a person whose technical ability with sound was impossible to ignore. 

Orchestrating phenomenal performances and experiences from there on at gigs throughout India and around the world in London, Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Croatia all the while remaining true to his art form, these endeavors led him to actualize his yearning to create a sanctuary back in his village in Goa, and #CirrusAnjuna was born. 

Cirrus Anjuna, cycled the recycled and invited producers and artist to create a complementary gallery of artistic expression. These efforts bear tremendous fruit today, with Cirrus Anjuna being the only consistent underground venue for experimentation. A place where the bourgeois is discarded and the love for creativity is celebrated.

Bahrain-based DJ, Sudz ( @dj_sudz), developed a curiosity for the various genres and subgenres of electronic music at a young age. However, he will always have a soft spot for the raw, harsh, and fast sounds of underground industrial and hard techno. After dabbling in music production, he eventually got his hands on a DJ setup and hasn’t looked back since.

Sudz has honed his taste for techno by playing at parties and spending time on the dancefloors of England, Scotland, Amsterdam, Dubai, and Bahrain. In his sets, he explores sounds from German EBM to trancy melodies, all under the spell of a dark and relentless 4/4 drum line. At the heart of his sets, Sudz tries to bring across the rave culture that he fell in love with where the only thing that matters is the energy and the music.

@Konstrukt_Alliance is a new collaboration between two #Rotterdam-based artists that have a passion for electronic dance music.

Both being active as DJ and producer for a long time and independently they play a lot of shows in the Netherlands and abroad. They performed at Toffler indoor Festival, Kompass Klub, Perron, Maassilo, and Soenda Indoor Festival, to name a few.

At the end of 2019, they decided to produce music together and the new project 'Konstrukt Alliance' was born. With an effortless transition between hard-hitting kicks and hypnotic sounding melodies, they tell a unique story at every show.

Konstrukt Alliance is running its own Rotterdam imprint: @DNA_rec. 

In the past years, the label released a lot of EP’s of upcoming talents and established names in the nowadays techno scene. The label was a start-point for the careers of many Dutch techno artists, like @Remco-Beekwilder, @Noneoftheabovetechno, @VNTMofficial, @Ritzi-Lee, and @Deep-Dimension-1.

With the start of the new project ‘Konstrukt Alliance’ they will challenge themselves and combine their producing skills. Besides that they practice together for a hybrid live-set with Ableton live as daw and hardware equipment for more control and opportunities during their sets!

Next, we have 22 years old DJ, Gehlen,  from Saudi Arabia. 

@Gehlenxgehlen describes himself as a “purveyor of deep, infectious dance grooves and a feel-good atmosphere." Never afraid to go too deep, all of which became infused with his own love for both jazz and instrumental music, Gehlen ended up with quite a mixed spectrum of musical influence translated into sets where he picks apart and infuses together with all the pieces of music that he loves the best. 

Beautiful synth work, ethereal backdrops, brooding basslines, and occasional vocal hooks, all on top of a pronounced foot shuffling house beat.

Born and raised in a picturesque village she changed the scene and moved to Germany’s capital where she made her musical debut in Berlin’s legendary clubs and became a true de¬scendant of Berlin’s nightlife.

If she’s not DJ-ing or presenting, Daniela will hit the studio to work on her new tracks. In 2018, she released her first EP Faces via Pentago¬nik, followed by her remixes for the Belgian la¬bel Insane Code Rec. In 2019 she collaborated on Darkroom with Lina Respen, which was released on Oxytech‘s album Spring Collection 2019. 

Her latest EP Dark Vibes from Our Soul was released in early 2020 via Belgian label - Ithi¬ca Records. Her EP-track produced with Le¬andro Taibbi landed the number 4 position on the Beatport Charts. There is yet more to come from Daniela.

This live techno improvisational set is recorded in D Minor at 130bpm using #RolandAriaSeries drum machines and synths (#TR8, #System1, #TB3), alongside some other noisemakers, routed through a Pioneer DJM-2000NXS Mixer.

Ahmed Zainal aka QWRK aka Ed Buzzerk is Bahraini techno, house, and electronica producer, DJ, and live act. He has been delving into the underbelly of the Bahraini music scene for over 20 years.

Inspired by artists and DJs the likes of #TheProdigy, #DaftPunk, #FatboySlim, #TheChemicalBrothers, #DrDre, #MichaelJackson, #Nirvana, #Soulfly, #Pantera, #GreenDay, #EdReal, #DaveClarke, #DerrickMay, and #ChrisLiberator, to name a few, Ahmed’s music is a binding mesh of elements drawn from his inspirations and surroundings.

Under his alternative artist name Ed Buzzerk, Ahmed became a familiar face in the underground House night “art.haus.” His radio show series “Rumble in the Depths” is a plunge into the deeper and darker sides of house and techno, highlighting forgotten gems from the Bahraini nightlife scene, with exclusive interviews with local DJs and artists from Bahrain.

Ahmed prides himself as a collaborator and has had the pleasure to work with numerous local artists and up-and-coming talents in many styles, one of which is #SlimfitTea, a guitar-based Techno/Electronica duo created with #7MND (Hamad Ebrahim). His latest project, entitled XO, is a collaborative improvisational electronic dance music platform for artists with noise-making machines. It has so far featured Bahraini and Bahrain resident artists such as Na Der (#NaderAmeeruddin), #RashedAlDhaen, #PapaPush (Fadal Nazir), #HSE (Hasan Ebrahim), as well as Saudi talent #Spceboi (Adnan AlSanaa). Post pandemic, the plan is to take the project out of the studio and onto public spaces and dance floors.
