Anja Schneider’s Sous imprint has fast become a permanent home for Anja’s more experimental productions as well as providing her with the chance to bring some of her favourite artists to the label. In the last two years, we have enjoyed releases from Billy Turner, Madben, Mella Dee, Fort Romeau and most recently Markus Suckut. All of which have collectively bought a diverse palette of music to Sous.

Asio (aka R-Play) is a Parisian based producer who’s career quickly became noted in 2007 after he broke into the French techno scene with his tracks signed to Harthouse, Synewave and Suara. Anja brings this new name to Sous this October with 3 original cuts on his EP ‘Dada’.  Opening things is the title track ‘Dada’. Instantly we’re drawn into a groovy deep bass track with sparse percussion. As the various layers reveal themselves, a sinister energy grows. The track then explodes into life at the drop. ‘Last Day in Space’ is a subtle tribal groove. Swinging off beat hats keep time as the layers of melody and percussion fade into earshot. A track of light and dark where patience is rewarded by a huge payoff. 

Finally, ‘Sol Sol’ employs interesting FX to the drums creating a wonky feel from the off. Once the synths kick in the wonk gets much wonkier!

Danish talent Christian Nielsen's varied sounds fit into the boxes of a wide range of house and techno DJs, and his latest EP for Exploited treads a similarly eclectic path of bad-assness after a recent outing with KOMPAKT. 

'Still The Same' takes its cues from brooding '80s electro pop, fusing it to a deep tech backbone that makes for a perfect compliment. Moody on-beat bass sets the pulse as haunted vocal snippets and gliding synths swoop in sorrowfully. The shuffling, stripped-back pumps into life as delicate arpeggios hypnotise you into submission. Atmospheric swells threaten to envelop the track but are instead restrained in teasing fashion. A nagging rhythmic note adds more urgency, and more flurries of gorgeous synth arpeggiation and wiggling melodics keep the track colourful and invigorating throughout.  

'Now You're Free' centres on a more organic groove, with a shuffling jazzy drumset setting the tone. The vibe is still deep and contemplative, with the ghosts of '90s house vocals and muted jazz trumpet and cymbal rides contrasting against warm pads. Gentle tech percussion bolsters these organic elements and hazy FX make things a little trippy in all the right places. 

'My Love' makes for a perfect finale for this diverse 3-tracker, with head-nodding shakers and woodblocks creating a tribal flavour under acidic bleeps and hovering bass weight. Pitched down, stuttered vocals, swirling low-slung synths and shimmering synths create a cool, collected feel that makes this a lovely little set builder of a track.

LA underground label Wulfpack kicks off October with their fourth Various Artists (VA) compilation featuring 11 deep and melodic house and techno tracks from local and international Wulfpack artists.

The first track on the release is from Australian producer Tonelab, who recently released with sister label Shadow Wulf, and has quickly become a Wulfpack favorite. His new track Friendly Tentacles reaches out to the listener with its magnetic melodic feelers and ushers through an intricately deep and mystic techno journey. 

The stand out house groover on the release is from alpha and Wulfpack mastering coordinator Drew Blyther bringing his classic light-hearted funky style with a saucy throwback surprise. 

Sunday Sanctuary founder and Krafted Underground artist Contessa (UV)’s latest track not only captures her stylistic essence but casts a spell with it’s undulating bassline and ethereal vocals.

Wülfpack is a collaboration of DJs and producers focused on creating an experience through sight and sound.
